NFL Random Thought of the Day

The Chiefs got banged up in one practice. Head coach Andy Reid said in his post-practice press conference that Hollywood Brown suffered an ankle injury, Xavier Worthy “banged his head,” and Skyy Moore exited with a hamstring injury.

Several initial reports stated that he claimed to be an NFL player. Despite claims in his suicide note suggesting he suffered from CTE due to playing in the NFL, investigators and city officials, including Mayor Eric Adams, have clarified that Tamura was never an NFL player, After doing some additional research, I found that the only organized football he played was in HS in California.
Obviously a case of glory days will pass you by in the wink of a young girls eye.

Report: Cowboys, Micah Parsons talks “have gone backwards”
Published July 30, 2025 09:18 AM

At a time when they should be making progress, the Cowboys and linebacker Micah Parsons are not.

Adam Schefter of ESPN.com said Tuesday that the two sides are moving in the wrong direction.

Via Leocciano Callao of Yahoo Sports, Schefter said the player and team are “further away from a deal in late July, early August than [they] were in late March, early April.”

“The two sides have gone backwards, not forwards,” Schefter added. “I don’t think they’re speaking very much these days, if at all. This negotiation, when it was a negotiation, has gone sideways. It’s not a negotiation right now. There’s really no conversation about getting a deal done.

“That could change next week. It could change shortly before the season. We’ve seen how long Dallas sometimes waits on some of these deals. See CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott last season.”

It could be something that happens as the clock strikes 12 on the 2025 regular season. Or it could be this: The Cowboys have an offer on the table that won’t be changing. Parsons can either take it or play under his fifth-year option of $24 million and then resume talks after the season.

My own prediction/guess is that, ultimately, there won’t be a new deal until 2026.

Miami Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou suffered a partial ACL tear during training camp practice on Saturday. This injury will require surgery and will cause him to miss the entire 2025 season...............................ACL #5.

All initial reports were that Jones was carted off with a leg injury. Now it's been changed to hear-related. The Browns players evidently don't know what real heat is! :chef:

Dawand Jones exited practice due to an issue with heat
By Myles Simmons
Published July 30, 2025 12:07 PM

Browns offensive tackle Dawand Jones exited Wednesday’s practice early, but there isn’t major reason for concern.

Via multiple reporters, Jones left practice due to issues with the heat.

It’s been hot in Northeast Ohio this week, with today’s high expected to reach 87 degrees and a heat index of 92.

Jones, a fourth-round pick in the 2023 draft, is returning from a fractured ankle suffered midway through last season and appears in line to start at left tackle this season. He has started 17 of his 21 appearances in his two seasons in the league.

Jerry doing Jerry things. And then next year, it'll cost him $6-7 mil per year more.

The Cowboys are getting desperate. After losing four offensive linemen the past week. Tyler Guyton (knee), Rob Jones (neck), Matt Waletzko (ankle) and Hakeem Adeniji (concussion) will miss time, and a fifth, left guard Tyler Smith, left practice early Thursday with knee soreness..............they are going to work out Olineman La’el Collins tomorrow. Collins spent 7 years with the Cowboys since 2016 when he was picked undrafted. He has not played a snap in the NFL since 2022.

Tyler Smith has been now given the diagnosis of knee tendonitis. Recovery from knee tendonitis can be prolonged, with a full return to activity potentially taking a month to several months in severe cases. The one thing you don't want to do is take any short cuts in this type of injury. Doing so would risk tearing or rupturing the tendon.

All of that is contingent on signing him to a $200 mil extension BEFORE season starts. Can we afford that with CJ and WA coming up?
I realize it's a bit of a pipedream. Definitely going to be difficult to manage the cap and will turn into a top heavy team, not sure how we would alleviate the cap or supplement the roster once payday comes for everyone

Micah is a stud, but the one area we are not lacking is DE. Got to keep some money for our own coming up. Current guys will destroy teams without Micah. Just keep him in the NFC please

They will have to choose who they want to let walk vs who they want to keep.

Just some quick numbers:
Parsons turns 26 this season compared to 5 years older TJ Watt with the latter signing a 3-year extension for 123 million at AAV of 41 million with a total $ 108m guaranteed. IRC, it is the highest for a non -qb.

I think Parsons will stick it to Jerry for $50 million x 4 years but not necessarily Houston for the same. Here is a thought as I put on my Nick Caserio hat:

** Trading Hunter saves just over 12 million cap but also leaves a 8.2 million dead $ hit. $11 m current space + $12 from Hunter leaves a lot of room to work with.

A likely approach would be {also as we did with Collins and Stingley} to use Parsons 2025 season to spread a large signing bonus over 4 years.

$45 m x 3 years $135 million Parsons newest highest paid Non-qb. A $40 million signing bonus puts a smile on his and agent's face. That can be prorated over the 4 years and still be under the current cap space. That would leave Houston with the 12 million from Hunters trade.

Anderson and Stroud are off the table until after this season to negotiate an extension. As stated above, I expect the NFL to explode the salary cap to get certain concessions from the NFLPA such as an 18th game and a few other concessions. I know the NFL wants to cut the percentage for the players Union.

What if Parsons truly wants out and will reject any and all offers the Cowboys make?

The problem for Parsons is that the Cowboys hold his rights for 2025 at $24 million. They can apply the franchise tag (exclusive or non-exclusive) for 2026 and again for 2027. (It becomes ridiculously expensive to do it a third time.)

Thus, the Cowboys can keep Parsons around for three years. They can say, “If you want to play football, here’s where you will play.” That reality alone could be enough to get Parsons to not say “no thanks” to $45 million a year — if the Cowboys offer it.

Another dumbshit!

Denzel Perryman arrested for possession of assault weapon
By Charean Williams
Published August 2, 2025 10:50 AM

Chargers linebacker Denzel Perryman was arrested Friday in Los Angeles and faces a felony charge of possessing an assault weapon, TMZ reports.

Perryman was headed to the gun range when the South Los Angeles Sheriff’s Station officers searched his car. It is unclear why Perryman was stopped by police.

TMZ reports officers found two AR rifles and three handguns in Perryman’s trunk. The rifles are illegal in California.

Perryman still was in jail Saturday morning, and he is due in court Tuesday.

Per TMZ, this is Perryman’s first felony charge.

More "games" with injury reporting. Ravens TE Isaiah Likely was reported by Harbaugh to have rolled his ankle and needed to be carted off the field. Per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Harbaugh told reporters that Likely would a couple of weeks. News per Rapoport then that Likely suffered a small fracture in his foot and now he revealed that he had undergone an unspecified surgery on his foot which will keep him out for 6-8 weeks.

His unreported fracture is in fact a Jones fracture. The 6-8 week return is optimistic.

As an aside, I find it amusing when any report of a "small fracture" comes out..................a fracture is a fracture, and unless it is a complicated or an open fracture, the prognosis for the fracture is essentially the same as for a "bigger fracture."

Very true and Dallas is sitting on $31 million in cap space for this season but only about 6 m in 2026 and that's where things start getting tight.
A reminder as to what Khalil Mack trade was..

Another item of interest is CJ Stroud's agent, Derek Stingley's and Micah Parsons is the same and Nick negotiated with no problems for Stingley with David Mulaghetta.

OR, that stiff back he's been having in camp can turn into a serious disk issue real fast that needs lengthy rehab, maybe surgery, who knows what can happen with a football players back. Then they still pay him $24 mil this year for not having him

I would trade him tomorrow and try to off load Dak's contract. Whether they give Parsons a new contract or not they're going to be stuck in mediocrity. Time to bottom out and rebuild but Jerrah will never do this.

I remember some thought the world was going to end when Derrick requested a trade 😂 looking at you Me. Tex.

Personally, I don't think they'll trade him. I think they will most likely agree to a contract shortly before the season starts.

But if they DID want to trade him, this really isn't the best time for that in terms of getting teams bidding against each other. Most teams are squared away with their rosters, signed their FA's, and might not be able to handle the cap implications of a trade for Mikah... All that said, I'm sure they'd still find an acceptable deal. I imagine it would take at least 2 firsts, or a player and a first...

The NFL will do everything they can to delay and/or minimize removal of a moneymaker from the field. And consulting with Race's legal team for input for a plan???? The punishment should be cut and dry, independent of the ridiculously lenient criminal outcome.

Rashee Rice: Potential suspension is “still in the works”
By Mike Florio
Published August 2, 2025 07:52 PM

With his criminal case resolved, Chiefs receiver Rashee Rice has one step remaining before his street-racing situation is resolved: A potential, if not likely, NFL suspension.

Honestly, it’s still in the works,” Rice said Saturday, via Nate Taylor of ESPN.com. “My legal team is handling that. All I can do is focus on what I can control right now, and that’s me doing what I do best right here on the field.”

As we hear it, the NFL has yet to propose an agreed suspension to the NFL Players Association. Once it happens, the NFLPA (which currently is in a state of turmoil, to say the least) would work with Rice’s representatives to formulate a plan.

If the league and the union can’t agree on a punishment, the formal process would unfold. Given that the facts regarding what transpired are not disputed (the incident is on video), it’s possible that a hearing before retired judge Sue L. Robinson will be unnecessary. If that’s the case, the matter would go straight to Commissioner Roger Goodell.

With the Chiefs’ regular-season opener only four weeks and six days away, it’s also possible that Rice would be available for

Week 1 and beyond, until the case and any potential appeal have been resolved.

However it plays out, Rice insists the days of reckless driving are behind him.

“I’ve completely changed,” Rice said. “Honestly, you have to learn from things like that. I’ve taken advantage of being able to learn from something like that.”

The goal, through Rice’s punishment, will be for others to learn from Rice’s mistake. His suspension will be aimed at deterring other players from doing the same thing he did.

Rice was lucky no one got killed. The NFL’s will try to ensure that, in the future, no other player rolls the dice in the way Rice did.

Mathew Stafford is not participating in TC due to unspecified back tightness. He has seen a back specialist, but no reports of the results. There is a vague "week-to-week" status, with the HC saying Stafford will be available week 1. "Week-to-week" is a very concerning prognosticator for a back problem.

It is being reported that Stafford suffered multiple vertebral fractures in 2019 leading him to miss 8 games. But as I researched this injury, it was 3 nondisplaced fractures of the thoracic transverse processes.........not of the main vertebra bodies. These are very painful due to severe local muscle spams (as with Tony Romo). Once healed, long-term prognosis is excellent.

In Dec 2022, over his last two starts spanning 14 days, Stafford suffered two concussions and a spinal cord contusion that caused numbness in his legs, something that could have led to a cervical neck fusion or even retirement..............he missed 6 games and took neither route.

Raiders safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. suffered a fractured fibula yesterday. He will undergo MRI to see if there are any other associated injuries. Johnson signed with the Raiders at the start of free agency after playing last season with the Panthers. He was expected to make the roster to provide depth in the secondary and contribute on special teams.
