NFL Random Thought of the Day

The NFL may not control what their entities sell the Ticket for. But NFL DOES have control of who gets Sunday Ticket. :toropalm:

Sunday Ticket is available on Apple app store, for $679.99
By Mike Florio
Published August 19, 2024 08:42 PM

Sunday Ticket isn’t getting cheaper. It’s getting more expensive.
Depending on where you buy it.

Via John Ourand of Puck.news, the out-of-market game package is now available via the Apple app store, for viewing on an iPad or iPhone. The cost? $679.99.

Packaged with RedZone, it costs $739.99 per year.

The league told Ourand that the pricing isn’t its business: “The NFL does not control the pricing of Sunday Ticket and does not set or receive any additional fees associated with its sale.”

As Ourand notes, Apple takes a 30-percent fee for anything sold in its store. That fee has been built into the pricing.

Regardless of the NFL’s claims about pricing, the transcript of the Sunday Ticket trial made it clear that the lead wants it to be a “premium” product that will complement to over-the-air, in-market broadcasts. The league wants a sufficient percentage of fans to choose to watch the games available on local CBS and Fox affiliates, protecting the billions it receives from those networks.

Seahawks TE Pharaoh Brown in Austin getting second opinion on injured foot
By Charean Williams
Published August 19, 2024 06:41 PM

Seahawks tight end Pharaoh Brown injured his foot Thursday in a joint practice against the Titans. His injury and that of tight end Jack Westover (hamstring) prompted the team to sign free agent tight ends Michael Ezeike and Devon Garrison on Monday.

Brown said on social media Monday that he is in Austin, Texas, seeking a second opinion on his injury.
He is on crutches but starting therapy work.

"[Let’s] get this healing process started, so I can be back out there Week 1. That’s the goal,” Brown said on Instagram.

Brown showed what appears to be a large bruise on bottom of his left foot, but the diagnosis remains unclear.
He left the Patriots to sign with the Seahawks this offseason, having made 13 receptions for 208 yards and a touchdown in 2023. Brown also has played for the Raiders, Browns and Texans.

A new Netflix documentary about Steve McNair is a true-crime narrative mixed with an NFL retrospective of a life that ended far too soon.
Sometimes bad things happen when you're cheating on your wife.

That should be the moral of the story, but it wont be.

49ers OG has had knee surgery and is expected to be designated to return................but not before the middle of the season.

I'm struck by the fact that his hypertension diagnosed was not caught well before this. You very seldom see hypertension as a surprise overnight phenomenon. A black 325 pound man should have been regularly checked for BP elevations. Spot BPs are entirely inadequate. These overweight bohemoths are predictably going to have health problems, despite the fact that they are not routinely revealed...................hypertension specifically. The NFL essentially performs very limited screening of health except for the Draft and TC checks.............entirely inadequate for these high risk players. An isolated blood pressure at one time of day does not reflect another time of day, especially under stress situations (e.g., games)...................or certainly the player's true overall blood pressure status.

Raekwon Davis “so grateful” Colts medical team caught his high blood pressure
By Josh Alper
Published August 21, 2024 07:28 AM

When the Colts put defensive tackle Raekwon Davis on the non-football illness list at the start of training camp, there was no word on the specific issue that was keeping him off of the practice field.

Davis was cleared to get back to work on Monday and he shared some details about what sidelined him while speaking to reporters on Tuesday. He said he is “so grateful” to the Colts medical team for flagging his high blood pressure during his physical ahead of camp and working with him to control the issue in a way that allowed him to return to action this week.

“We’ve been saying so much with high blood pressure, with heart attacks and things like that,” Davis said, via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star. “It’s a great thing they caught that.”

Davis will get the next couple of weeks to work himself back into the mix with DeForest Buckner and Grover Stewart on the interior of the defensive line in Indianapolis.

If Watson does play which he might very well not, I seriously doubt that he will play any more than 1 quarter if that long.
That shoulder should have been well healed long time ago...................and Watson should have been exposed to live fire. Players coming back from injury tend to be tentative to different degrees with fear of re-injury. From what I am hearing, for all the big talk, not only is Stefanski fearful, but Watson is more so................of no longer wearing a "Don't touch me" jersey.

Browns CB Denzel Ward did not participate in the team’s joint practice with the Vikings today. Evidently, he sustained a concussion when he hit his head on the ground during the Browns Monday practice, and is now in the Concussion Protocol. This is Ward's 5th documented concussion since being drafted #4 by the Browns in 2018. Who knows what his real total lifetime count is.
I did some deep digging and found that besides the documented 5 concussions that he suffered in the 5 years since being drafted, Ward has at least 3 more documented concussions that he sustained in college. Also quite interesting is that several of his concussions had symptoms lasting 3-5 weeks. Not a great history for deciding to continue playing the game. :tiphat:

Browns cornerback Denzel Ward still is not back to practice more than a week after hitting his head on the ground in a Aug. 12 practice.

Coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Wednesday that Ward was diagnosed with a concussion and remains in the protocol.
It is the fifth documented concussion for Ward since the Browns drafted him in 2018.

Ward has earned Pro Bowl honors three times, including in 2023 when he played 13 games and totaled 34 tackles, two interceptions, 11 pass breakups and one forced fumble.

He has never played a full season.

Nobody can say Ward doesn't know the risks.

Strong as I found out suffered a severe rib contusion. He was taken to the hospital because he was experiencing shortness of breath. He was released from the hospital about 2 hours ago. I'm sort of surprised that he was released so soon. In a rib contusion (bruising) with shortness of breath, you worry about a pulmonary (lung) contusion.......................and this may not show up on xrays before 12-48 hours.

Deshaun Watson limited in practice due to “general arm soreness”
By Josh Alper
Published August 21, 2024 03:42 PM

Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson took a few snaps in team drills at Wednesday’s practice, but Jameis Winston handled most of the work during the session.

After practice was over, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski told reporters that he dialed back Watson’s time on the field because of “general arm soreness.”

“I decided to just hold back a little bit with him, but not overly concerned,” Stefanski said, via Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com.
Stefanski initially said that the plan was for Watson to play in the team’s final preseason game against the Seahawks, but he hedged a bit on Tuesday and again declined to commit to playing Watson on Wednesday. In addition to the arm soreness, the Browns will also have to consider putting Watson out behind an offensive line that’s been thinned out by injuries during camp.

Sounds like his arm is Thanksgiving turkey.

Neck stingers in football is not an uncommon issue..........most resolving within hours or days. Dillon has experienced repeated stingers throughout his college and NFL career, several lasting more than 4 weeks. This is worrisome and is usually caused by anatomical abnormalities such as spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal), a narrow brachial plexus (nerve bundles coming out off the spinal cord) outlet, cervical disc disease or boney spurs of the vertebrae. Some of these anatomic problems could be very dangerous for a football player. I am sure that this is what is finally being thoroughly evaluated.

AJ Dillon waiting on test results about latest stinger
By Charean Williams
Published August 21, 2024 10:31 PM

Packers running back AJ Dillon missed the final three games of last season with a stinger. He has another one now.

Dillon said he was diagnosed with the stinger during the joint practice against the Broncos on Friday.

He is awaiting test results, uncertain how severe it is or when doctors will clear him to return.

They’re a lot different,” Dillon said of stingers, via Bill Huber of SI.com. “Some are common; a lot of guys reference getting a stinger at some point. I’ve had stingers in the past before the incident last year. As you know, certain things happen. Some are more severe than others. You kind of look at it differently but, like I said, we’re waiting to get opinions back. See all the information before we make any statements that are untrue.”

Coach Matt LaFleur admits that “absolutely there’s a concern” with Dillon’s latest injury and said the team will proceed with caution.

Dillon is the presumptive backup running back to Josh Jacobs.

“I know it’s a big alarm right now, but I have not missed a day in camp,” Dillon said. “I’ve been healthy throughout it all, not taking any days off, so I’m not going to be worried about us being cautious and try to make sure that I’m around the entire season rather than a day in camp.”

More drama. Prescott's potential new contract, deservingly or not will be through the roof by the time Jones finally decides to sign him.

After Dak chokes again in the playoffs Jerrah might finally decide he can't when a championship with Dak.

Sounds like he doesn't want to play. Shocking.

He's sore alright, get up in there.

I think that was absolutely the moral of the story. McNair was taking chances with people he really didn't know. He didn't deserve to die for it. But deserved isn't really a factor.
Live that life and you're taking your chances. He came up Snake eyes.

So, Brady isn't going to broadcast a preseason game? Where is the rookie development for an analyst going to occur? Just throw him into the booth and hope for the best? I think Brady is going to be entertaining as a broadcaster. Sometimes, in ways not intended. It might become as HOFer Emmitt Smith many times said, "a debacle".
Sounds like you're rooting for a debacle.

You don’t see trades in the same division that often. Dotson will have a significant chip on his shoulder to prove the new leadership in Washington wrong. Giving up on a former 1st rounder who was in a bad situation for peanuts from a division rival…
