NFL Random Thought of the Day

Seems like these cleats would encourage balance issues leading to ankle and knee injuries? Maybe that's the other issues to which you are referring.
There are too many variables to feel that this could consistently prevent injuries. ACLs, for example, can occur if the foot sticks to the turf/ground while the knee twists. But ACLs can occur by another mechanism if the lower leg slips and hyperextends the knee. To function properly these cleats would have to virtually function perfectly under too many different loads with too many variable tolerances experienced by players who range in height, weight, speed and acceleration. Similarly, ankle sprains including high ankle sprains can be caused not only by cleats sticking, but cleats slipping.

Patriots rookie receiver JaQuae Jackson was carted off the field in the fourth quarter of tonight's preseason game against the Eagles.....................looked like an ACL.

Michael Hall left Wednesday's practice with an injury. As it turns out, it is a neck stinger. Most people recover from a stinger in a few days or weeks. If the stinger occurs during sports like it did here, the player must be sure all your symptoms and muscle weakness resolve entirely before returning to play. If he returns too quickly, the risk of re-injury is high.

Of course, I can't rule out a "phantom injury" as an easy way for the Browns to avoid further bad on-field publicity.

JJ McCarthy has been placed on IR. I've been asked why the team says that he cannot return this season even if there is a miniscule chance that he could recover from surgery and return by the very end of the season or post season if still in play for the Vikings. The new rules allow teams to place two players on injured reserve the exact DAY of the initial roster cutdown to 53 players............not before.

Bengals RB Chris Evans was carted carted off during Thursday’s joint practice with the Bears. An MRI confirmed a patellar tendon rupture.
Must be catching
Smith was the second Bengals player to suffer a patellar injury in the joint practice. He went down roughly 10 minutes after running back Chris Evans suffered a torn patellar tendon. Evans, a fourth-year reserve, will also miss the entire season.

The Steelers won’t have center Nate Herbig for an extended period of time, as he suffered a significant left shoulder injury during this past Wednesday's practice He suffered a left shoulder injury during 2023 TC missing the last 2 preseason games.

Giants receiver and special teamer Gunner Olszewski suffered a Grade II adductor tear. It is unlikely that he will be able to return for the beginning of the season.

Eagles offensive guard Mekhi Becton left practice early with an apparent right leg injury. The team said it's nothing serious. The problem is that Becton has been an injury-in-waiting, only being able to play in 31 o 67 games since being a 1st round in 2020.

The Browns lost 3 more offensive tackles in the Vikings game. Their starting tackles WIlls and Conklin have been on PUP, but the team says they are expected back to practice "soon." Wills and Conklin are both coming back from season ending knee injuries. Conklin is always injured. Hope Watson enjoys his return.

If Herbig is being sent for 2nd opinions, it it usually to decide if surgery is required or not. Most all NFL players are going to undergo repair.................both surgery and conservative treatments lead to a 6-7 month return to play. As a center, it doesn't matter which shoulder is involved since he needs to equally defend his right and left. Encouraging is that ~80% of linemen can return to pre-injury performance.

Former first-rounder Gosder Cherilus arrested for urinating on plane passenger
By Mike Florio
Published August 19, 2024 01:37 PM

Former NFL offensive lineman Gosder Cherilus, a first-round pick of the Lions in 2008, has been arrested for disorderly conduct. He allegedly urinated on another passenger during a flight from Boston to Dublin.

Investigators reportedly believe he approached an elderly woman, exposed himself, and emptied “his entire bladder for approximately 20 seconds.”

The alleged incident happened roughly an hour into the flight. The plane returned to Boston, where Cherilus was arrested.
Per the police report, Cherilus appeared to be drunk when he arrived at the airport.
Earlier this hour, Cherilus posted an apology on social media.

“The flight was unexpectedly delayed for approximately four hours, and it did not take off until after 12:30 [a.m.],” Cherilus wrote. “In preparation for the unexpected overnight flight, I took a sleeping medication that I don’t normally use, which resulted in behavior that is not representative of my character, and I would like to apologize to the passengers and flight crew.”

He pleaded not guilty to interfering with the operation of an aircraft, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. He’s due in court on October 11.

Cherilus spent nine seasons in the NFL — five with the Lions, two with the Colts, and two with the Buccaneers.

Psst. Look at my "like" on that previous post. I posted the similar article due to the additional graphic description of the Urinating target was an elderly WOMAN.............and the Urination was a 20 second fully emptying process.
