NFL Random Thought of the Day

3 of the 4 QBs remaining in the playoffs are on their rookie deals. Mahomes is the only one not.

Interesting.
The QB cap space thingy is very real.

After 7 maybe 8 years the owners should start looking for a new franchise QB instead of paying through the nose for a QB that lessens their chances of winning a SB.

Why don't they realize this trend that's held true since 1994? I think they do, but marketing trump's championships.

Another “race card” pulled for not getting the head coaching job… doubt Wilks will be getting another HC interview thanks to his lawsuit with Flores.

Previously, He was a one and done as the Cardinals' HC with Josh Rosen as his QB. They fire him, bring in Kingsbury. Thinking about it. Wilks took over that dumpster fire in Carolina, led them to a 6-6 record and even contended for the division title. Yet, he didn't even get a chance to build on that success.

Most interim HCs don't get a chance to become the permanent HC because they took over a bad team and the team's performance didn't improve. It wasn't the case with Wilks. So, at the end of the day, someone will ask what makes Jeff Saturday more qualified or successful to continue as the permanent HC of the Colts and not Wilks with the Panthers? It definitely wasn't performance or team improvement.

Shoot you can make a case that Wilks got more out of his team's talent than Reich did with the Colts.

Tua Tagovailoa still in protocol, to miss Pro Bowl Games, source says
MIAMI -- Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa remains in the concussion protocol and will not participate in next week's Pro Bowl Games, a source told ESPN on Friday.

Tagovailoa had been named a first alternate Pro Bowler and was set to replace either Joe Burrow or Patrick Mahomes, with both quarterbacks playing in Sunday's AFC Championship Game and one bound for Super Bowl LVII. However, Tagovailoa entered the protocol Dec. 26 after suffering a concussion in Miami's loss to the Green Bay Packers the day before and missed the team's final three games of the season, including a wild-card loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Add to that it came out that an over-whelming majority of the players wanted Wilks to be the HC going forward ownership felt differently.....

Carolina has an owner that made his own money and doesn't cave to media/fan/player pressure. Unlike Calhoun.

This did not surprise me. What does surprise me is that Tua has said that he will definitely return to play next season with the Dolphins.............and after his mother and his father were just interviewed, they both stated that they fully support their son returning to football saying "There is no doubt that he will return to football next season."

Yeah, his father's a peach...

if i walked in and saw a parent whipping their kid over an athletic performance...i would'nt view it as character building
I dont think Tua's dad cares too much what you think.

I'm sure both Tua and his dad are quite happy with the results.

Key play included a missed holding penalty by Orlando Brown
Posted by Mike Florio on January 30, 2023, 12:03 AM EST

The late hit that gave the Chiefs 15 extra yards and a 45-yard game-winning field goal try came at the end of a play that began with something that has happened over and over in 2022.

Offensive holding. Not called.

Chiefs tackle Orlando Brown clearly held Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson. No flag was thrown.

It happens too often to be brushed off as gross incompetence. Between consistent failures to call holding and a rash of tackles starting into their pass-block set a split second before the snap without being called for illegal procedure, officials are making it easier for quarterbacks to operate by balancing out the simple fact that, currently, defensive linemen are bigger, faster, and/or stronger than the men trying to stop them from hitting the quarterback.

Remember the outcry over roughing the passer from October? NFL executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent candidly admitted that the officials overprotect quarterbacks because, without healthy quarterbacks, the games stink.

So, in addition to calling ticky-tack roughing penalties when quarterbacks get hit, the officials are looking the other way far too often on tactics that help keep quarterbacks from getting hit.

It’s why Joey Bosa blew a gasket two weeks ago. It happens over and over again.

In this instance, it should have been called.

The NFL should just let the guys play and have the refs call the games straight up. But this would probably mean less revenue.
