NFL Random Thought of the Day

Tua is reported to be expected to play Sunday against the Steelers. He has no business returning so quickly after 2 back to back concussions, especially after the 2nd one which resulted in the fencer's posture and temporary paralysis.

There is a significant possibility that Tua suffers another trauma with much more dire consequences. Also keep in mind, he is a great risk now for a significant lower extremity injury.

Tua Tagovailoa On Concussion: When I Came To, I Wondered What Happened

Bad for the game but great for the NFL and its owners. Profits have never been better, which is the only reason the league exists.

Jerry Jones is letting his own greed kill the golden goose, or at least try to strangle it.
Asking for benchmark and detailed accouri of how God'ell makes his bonuses is good business practices. Not killing the golden goose. Jones just wants accountability.

Why does Jones solely want this but 31 other owners are okay with it? They are making record profits and they hide behind Goodell. THAT'S why he's paid so much. He's takes their heat.

There's an agenda at play. Jones is being a little biatch because he's still pissed about the Ezekiel Elliott suspension. Screw him and his franchise.

I would want to know the benchmarks at the very least. It's smart business.

Good to know you dislike Jerrah more than God'ell.

Judge declines to stay Jon Gruden’s lawsuit against the NFL pending appeal of arbitration ruling
Posted by Mike Florio on October 20, 2022, 6:53 PM EDT

Jon Gruden officially has more wins this year than the team he used to coach.

Daniel Kaplan of TheAthletic.com reports that the judge presiding over the former Raiders coach’s case against the NFL and Commissioner Roger Goodell has refused to stay the litigation pending appeal of the denial of the league’s effort to force the case into arbitration.

The NFL filed its appeal last week.

Here’s what it means. Barring an immediate appeal of the decision to not stay the case pending the other appeal, the litigation will proceed with the discovery process. Documents and other information will be requested by Gruden. Depositions of key individuals, such as Goodell and Commanders owner Daniel Snyder, will be arranged.

The NFL undoubtedly will try to fight that through any means available, as the league challenges the decision to keep the case out of the secret, rigged, kangaroo court into which the league tries to direct any claims ever made against the NFL and/or its franchises.

One of the most important pieces of information that will come to light if/when the litigation proceeds is the identity of the person who leaked the emails sent to former Commanders executive Bruce Allen.

The problem with that argument is that obviously all 32 owners by contract obviously know what the "benchmarks" are...........and 31 are satisfied with the terms as they stand. Jerry evidently wants to change those terms.

I'm sure they are fine, as long as they're making a great return on their investment they dont care about God'ell/the game itself or much of anything else.

Very excited to see how Mccaffrey fits in the Shanahan offense. He is now on a contender and the 49ers are in position to go for the Lombardi this season. That offense is stacked with talent. Especially if/when Elijah Mitchell and George Kittle get fully healthy.

Having all that talent to go around should increase CMC’s effectiveness because they aren’t going to be forced to give him a huge workload like he’s accustomed to until playoff time.

Now in the selfish Texan fan category…

The Texans have an excess of draft picks and CBs (when Tavierre Thomas returns). The 49ers lost their young stud CB Mosley to a torn acl and are a contender in need of a solid vet at CB.

Texans could explore moving pick and player (vet CB Nelson or King) for young RB to pair with Pierce (Elijah Mitchell or Jeff Wilson). Unlikely to happen but sure would be nice!

The Panthers are in full-blown tank.

Their QB may hold them back, not sure he can make the plays when needed, but otherwise, indeed a stacked team going for the ring

Hufanga continued playing through Sunday's game after clearing tests for a concussion. However, he showed symptoms on Monday and entered the concussion protocol. That means he backslid from game time. While he wasn't on the field on Wednesday, reporters did see him on Thursday. That means he was already in the 4th phase of the Protocol. Again, this is not how quickly the Protocol is meant to proceed..........especially, with a clinical backslide. The NFL continues to find ways to circumvent the Protocol.SMH. :mcnugget:

anthers running back Christian McCaffrey is headed to the 49ers in return for draft picks, Carolina confirmed Thursday night.
The Panthers will receive a second-round pick in 2023, a third-rounder in 2023, a fourth-round pick in 2023 and a fifth-rounder in 2024 from the 49ers, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The 49ers will pick up the remainder of McCaffrey’s contract with Carolina. San Francisco owes the running back $690,000 for the rest of the 2022 season, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. In the 2023 season, he will earn $12 million, another $12 million in 2024 and $12.2 million in ‘25. He is guaranteed $1 million if he suffers an injury.

What about the compensation here by the 49ers for McCaffery ?
I dunno for this guy it might be worth it because he's not a mere RB as he also doubles and triples as a slot and WR, so besides being very talented he also so versatile.
Looks like the NFC is up for grabs which apparently has the the 49ers on the move to upgrade an already loaded roster.

Russell Wilson is having a real tough Oct. He has tried to play through a partial tear of his latissimus dorsi. He received platelet rich plasma injections. He has now been dealing with a grade II hamstring suffered the 2nd half of Monday night's game. The latissimus injury would have affected his mechanics with compensation by his lower extremities.

Report: Russell Wilson has a partial hamstring tear

Even wolverine blood has its limits.

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson has a Grade 2 hamstring strain, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. It’s basically a partial tear. Per Rapoport, it’s usually a 3-4 week injury.

Before the season, the Broncos were viewed as Super Bowl contenders. Now? Not. In fact, with Russell Wilson injured and the 2-4 Broncos underdogs at home today...

What dmbazz considered them SB contenders? They were in what was considered the toughest division in the NFL. Wilson made them a contender in that division, theoretically

The injury mechanism looks like Jets rookie RB Breece Hall suffered an ACL. The team reports a "knee injury." An MRI will be performed tomorrow.

NFL investigates video of game official apparently seeking autograph from Mike Evans
Posted by Mike Florio on October 24, 2022, 12:31 PM EDT

The tinfoil hat crowd may be needing a tinfoil refill.

A video has emerged from Sunday of a couple of game officials who appeared to be seeking an autograph from Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans. They were, according to FootballZebras.com, side judge Jeff Lamberth and line judge Tripp Sutter.

The NFL had no official comment on the matter. Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the league is looking into the incident.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement that controls the relationship between the NFL and the NFL Referees Association has a specific provision regarding game tickets, merchandise, and memorabilia.

“Game Officials must even avoid the appearance of profiting or personally benefiting from their association with the NFL, other than from compensation provided under the NFLRA Collective Bargaining Agreement,” the CBA explains at Appendix E, Section IV. “NFL Game Officials are permitted to receive compensation for speaking engagements or for participating in officiating clinics as long as these activities do not conflict with Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. In addition to the prohibitions set forth in Appendix E, Section I A above, Game Officials shall not . . . sell or trade NFL tickets for anything of greater value than the face value of the tickets; or . . . sell or trade for anything of value NFL merchandise, autographs or memorabilia; or . . . ask players, coaches or any other team personnel for autographs or memorabilia.”

The CBA allows game officials to “obtain player autographs or team merchandise or memorabilia for personal or charitable purposes.” Requests for such materials “should be made through the Officiating Department and never to a player or team employee directly.”

Maybe there’s a good explanation for this. Maybe there isn’t. Regardless, it’s the kind of thing that undermines the integrity of officiating. At a time when the officials already are under scrutiny from fans who wonder whether the process of making calls and throwing (or not throwing) flags has become potentially influenced by gambling interests, the video that emerged on Sunday will do little to diminish concerns that the fix from time to time may be in.
