Cris Carter: Adrian Peterson stinks, just like I did with the Dolphins

Hall of Fame wide receiver Cris Carter remembers how his own career ended, and he thinks future Hall of Fame running back Adrian Peterson is due for a similar ending.

Carter, who played his 16th and final season in Miami and caught just eight passes, believes Peterson is in for a similar season in Washington this year.

“Did you see me in a Dolphins uniform?” Carter told USA Today. “I had no business playing that season. I wouldn’t have admitted it, either. These guys get so sensitive about everything. Adrian had better get over himself. We were all great. But at the end, we all smelled like a baby’s diaper.”

Peterson heard Carter make similar comments on FS1 and was not happy about it.

“Watching some of the things they said about me, man, it really hurt me to the core,” Peterson told USA Today. “Not only are they black men, but these are people I looked up to. And these are people that made mistakes, especially Cris Carter. So some of the things that came out of his mouth, not only personally, but about me as a player – aw, he’s washed up and this, that and the other, and he should just retire – how dare you.

Peterson insists he has plenty of gas left in the tank and even thinks he can lead the league in rushing. That’s a pipe dream, but he’ll at least try to be better than Carter was with the Dolphins.

Peterson exclaiming that his completely healthy is more of an oxymoron.

I'll skip his early major injury history.................Just in the last 2 years, ankle then IR'd in Sept 2016 for torn knee meniscus..........designated to return, and quickly went on to retear his adductor (this is following sports hernia surgery in 2014) missing the final 2 games........... groin, knee injuries throughout the 2017 season, until finally IR'd in Nov for a severe neck injury , missing the final 5 games injury.

AP all day baby! The Texans should have signed him. He wanted to be here. He'd have been great in short-yardage situations with his mean streak style of running. Like last season when we needed to convert a 3rd and 1 to beat the Patriots and Seahawks on the road. O'Brien calls a Lamar Miller run up the gut both times (stuffed both times). We punt on 4th down and lose both games because we can't stop a Brady and Wilson game-winning drive. Situations like that we needed a battery ram at RB.

Alfred Blue is okay. Nothing to write home about. I've seen what Blue can do for four seasons now. When is he going to take the step and actually become a difference maker? My best memory of Blue is when Brian Cushing called him out on Hard Knocks and lit him up.
 
TheLos Angeles Ramsand defensive tackle Aaron Donald have agreed to a six-year deal, the team announced.

The deal is worth $135 million, including $87 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's the richest defensive deal in NFL history and could keep Donald with the Rams for the next seven years, through the 2024 season.

Donald, who has held out of training camp this season, will be ready for the team's Monday night opener against theOakland Raiderson Sept. 10, according to Schefter.

Broncos WR has been cut after back to back years of leading the team in receptions/reception yards and after having a good preseason............
 
Just waiting to see if the Redskins cut Samaje Perine, RB. That would be a windfall for the Texans if they did, even though Guice went down with an injury.

These contracts are getting ridiculous.. could you even imagine what Watt would've signed for if he was coming off his 2015 performance and was a free agent? Good Lord.

It's almost better to not have a elite (top at his position) type player and better just to have multiple really good solid players. That's QB money and the QB position is the only position that should warrant those type of deals.

First, you need to reset your thinking. That's not "QB money" any more, dude. Kirk Cousins inked a deal worth 28 mil/yr over 3 yrs - ALL guaranteed. Matt Ryan re-upped for 30 mil/yr. Now Aaron Rodgers busted that limit.

Second, when you have a game-changer like Donald (or pre-injury Watt) you pay to keep that. We passed on paying Mario (that's not a complaint either) but I would pay Donald or Watt.

One day, we'll have to pay Watson.

The Kirk Cousins deal was stupid too.. just saying. After he signed it the media was predicting fully garaunteed contracts for QBs from here on out.. hasn't been the case, just a really stupid contract from the Vikings, given to a very average QB.

And yes I know if Watson pans out we'll have to break the bank for him, but he'll be worth it, he's a QB who has the potential to be one of the best in the league.

For what it's worth I thought the Odell Beckham contract was outrageous too. Those players while great, just don't have that type of impact on your team.. at least not greatly more than what you can get by spreading that money around to sign multiple very good players and add depth to your team.

I dunno. Outside of Trubinsky (maybe) what impact players have the Bears obtained with their last, saaay, 5-10 1st rd picks? Any names jump out atcha? With Mack, they have a known quantity. I might have taken that gamble if it helps build a good defense to offset Trubinsky's growing pains.
oh and someone to give Aaron Rodgers fits is another plus

I wouldn't trade two first rounders for anything other than a Franchise QB/possible franchise QB.. and if by some chance I did consider trading 2 first rounders for another position I wouldn't do it unless I already had a established contending team that I felt was just missing one piece to put me over the top. Not a young team that's still building and has a questionable 2nd year QB.

I completely get your viewpoint. It's basically NFL unwritten law.
But...
Maybe you think you already have your franchise QB (Trubinsky). Oh and you spent two out of three of your last 1st round picks on LBs - Leonard Floyd/'06, Roquan Smith/'08. Now you have a chance to get a terror on D and let those two defensive investments learn from Mack. Oh and did I mention you face Aaron Rodgers, Matthew Stafford, and Kirk Cousins twice each. I'd have increasing defensive pressure up the priority list.

Not saying I'd do it. But I can see their thinking.
 
I'm going to change my previous thought process on this contract issue. First, I think it's a real shame that a team is forced to miss out on re-signing a drafted, developed and Pro Bowl player b/c of cap restrictions.

The NFL should look into establishing a completely new cap that would involve capping the combined salaries of UFA, RFA, Traded for Players and UDFA.

Teams could then focus on drafting, developing and keeping their players without a cap penalty.

Ok, OG- Nico Siragusa (Ravens) and OT/OG- Antonio Garcia (Patriots/Jets) were part of their teams final cuts. Could be a couple of nice signings for the PS since both should be 100% eligible.
 
This one is familiar:

Titans released OG Xavier Su'a-Filo.

Signed in March, Su'a-Filo handled left guard for the Texans the last two seasons, but he was one of the worst starters in the league. Still, the former second-rounder has a good chance to latch on as an experienced backup somewhere else.

Presumed Colts RT Denzelle Good made his first appearance of the preseason after battling a hamstring injury. He has now suffered an left knee injury (you can bet it was a compensatory injury this soon after return). Luck's luck is running thinner and thinner.

At least a soft cap like the NBA has where a team can still retain their own free agents for more money than any other team can offer. Not saying that's the solution, and players where still end up where they want to play, but it will help in some cases.

Jaguars’ WR Marqise Lee did indeed have further testing which as I suspected revealed a ruptured (underwent surgery for it today)............ACL #29.
