NFL Random Thought of the Day

I doubt if he starts, but hopefully can play a couple series

For me, after reading CND's take on his condition combined with the slim hopes for this year (no hopes in my book), I would just assume he stays out. He should get his wind back while he strengthens further and come back literally as good as he can realistically be, all things considered.

I just get a sense he's rushing it. If he goes down Sunday it's time to get used to the thought that we've done it yet again with a high pick and/or a #1 draft pick.

I swear, after the last two weeks, and given the Texans history, the memory of the Houston Oilers gets more respect with each passing week/year.....and that's ridiculous in and of itself.

From the interviews I've read that he's done, and he has done many over the years, he appears to be a man with a measure of good sense. The town he comes from has a long history of football greats. He has had an excellent mentor and a wonderful family life, all things considered. I think he knows his body better than anyone. I don't think he will go down the road that RGIII did. And what a shame that was, because he was beautiful to begin with. He sounds like he has the sense to speak up if he feels he needs to leave a game. Experience shows us we can't count on our coach for that information, as he seems determined to do an Earl on our best running back.

But Clowney starts Sunday - excited!!!
no, he won't
he might get to play but he won't start...
from O'Brien's Weds. presser
(on if he expects OLB Jadeveon Clowney to go back into the starting lineup when he’s healthy or has Whitney Mercilus shown him enough that he continues to get starter and reps and Clowney would have to work back into the mix)

“When JD (Jadeveon Clowney) comes back, he’ll have to work back into the mix. That’s not just something that’s going to be handed to him, that’s for sure. Whitney’s played well enough to deserve playing time, that’s for sure, and that’ll be a competition. When JD comes back, hopefully this week, we’re not going to put him back in there and play 70-80 plays like I was saying last week. He’s going to kind of, for lack of a better term, eased back into the rotation anyway. Whitney will still be out there but that will be a competition. That will definitely be a competition. You don’t just hand it to a guy coming off of six weeks being out, especially when the other guy has played pretty well.”

I'm getting to the point where I think the Steelers should call their "regular" uniforms their "throwback" uni's. Throughout October they have pink in the getup for a good cause, now the bee look.

A guy wears his socks too high or too low and gets fined by the league, but these guys dress up to promote Honey Nut Cheerios and the NFL says nothing.

Oh, one more random thought? I could get used to FOX calling all of the Texans games.

I actually like CBS' coverage more. Also, too many FOX games and the Texans will be competing with the Cowboys for TV coverage in Austin. I don't expect the Texans/Eagles game next week to be on locally here in Austin.

At least that way there would be no Ian Eagle/Dan Fouts calling our games

Luck will win this.

Bears' Lamarr Houston injures himself celebrating

Video

The Chicago Bears' embarrassing day in New England could be made a lot worse because of injury. Defensive end Lamarr Houston hurt his knee while celebrating a sack in the fourth quarter of the Bears' loss.

Houston will have an MRI tomorrow on the knee, and NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the 27-year-old is preparing to find out he has a season-ending injury, per a source informed of the situation.

"I probably shouldn't have celebrated like that, but it happens," Houston said after the game, via Shalise Manza Young of The Boston Globe.

It will be a tough moment for Houston to live down. He was celebrating after sacking Patriots backup Jimmy Garoppolo, who was only in the game because it was such a blowout. The Bears trailed by 25 points with under four minutes left at the time of the sack. It was Houston's first sack of the year after signing a $35 million contract in the offseason.

Must be because of the pallets of grass they bring in for game day.

Isn't twelve men in the huddle a 5-yard penalty? Why did that one receive a 15-yard unsportsmen like conduct penalty?

I think that was because the player checked into the huddle, then left the field before a play was run instead of substituting for a player

Just out of curiosity, did anybody else look at Brandon Weeden the other night and think that we could be looking at Ryan Mallett if he were in there?

Weedon was really good while he was in, but I'm speaking more to his style and skill set than results from the other night.

According to this report, the Cowboys set Weeden up for success with max protect sets and quick hitters.

Maybe O'Brien would do the same for Mallett/Savage should he have to play them.

No Texans on TV in Austin this weekend. This is where I say F.U. to the Texans for years of leaving Austin high and dry.

There is simply no way FOX Austin will ever show the Texans over the Cowboys and I don't think there is anything the Texans can do about it. A couple years ago FOX switched to pre-game of the Cowboys game while the Texans-Falcons game was coming down to the final drive (2011 I believe). That happened in a year the Texans made the playoffs while the Cowboys didn't.

After 30+ years of being here trust me, I'm aware of the situation. I was calling tv stations to complain with a rotary phone for God's sake. McNair has never tried to build the fanbase here. If there was a push of any kind from the Texans front office maybe we would get a replay like they would for Dallas, but no. The Texans have their money, thanks.

That sack on manning. How did they not call a penalty. That was lower and closer to the knee than what watt got called on a few weeks ago

49ers lost on a goal line fumble.

Terrible way to lose but it seemed like sweet karma to me. SF couldn't move the ball at all on that final drive. The referees basically moved them down the field one penalty at a time, and I didn't agree with half of them.

Yeah, I attended the STL and 49ers game couple weeks ago. Their Monday niter, the rams should have had game.

(9:47) J.Flacco pass deep right to T.Smith for 35 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Play caller: Gary Kubiak
DB: Brice McCain

:truck:

How about this for an early "where did the season go" fact........

Dallas has only two more home games remaining in the regular season.

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
Well... RT @SportsTaxMan: Pitt's Ben Roethlisberger has thrown 6 TD passes in each of his last 2 games. Vikings have thrown 6 this season.

Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN
Jets drafted two WRs in 4th round (0 total catches) BEFORE Steelers drafted WR Martavis Bryant (5 TDs in 3 games) in 4th round #nyj

I'm at the point of my body saying thank goodness. If I lived in Dallas, it would be fine, but traveling for that many back to back or skip a week games is exhausting.

Random thought - Weeden isn't working. He reminded me of Rosencopter on yesterday. It was one of those days that we generally hoped for the best but for the most part prepared for the worst.
