New HC candidates

I can't believe he's even in the conversation right now. The only positive is that this would be the easiest transition.

More likely: Shanahan would bring no transition, no change and we would get the same Houston Texans that we've had with Kubiak. No thanks.

Out of all those mentioned so far, I really do NOT want Weisenhunt, Wade, or Mike Shanahan.

Lovie Smith would be an improvement, just not really sure how much of an improvement it would be though.

Lol. Guys, forget the Shanahan talk. Mike or Kyle. It's not happening.

Neither Mike nor Kyle Shanahan will be our head coach, so let's not even worry about it.

McNair is unable to pick a good head coach. Hire a good GM and let him pick his HC.

And more same ol' same ol'. I know McNair's not that blind as to not be able to see that. It's not gonna happen.

27 in the second half.

They had a little help:

Horton's Cardinals beat Brady last year and held him to 27 at New England this year.

To be fair the defender grabbed him by the collar and impeded him with the ball in the air.

It's still pretty ticky-tack, and even then they only got there because of an onside kick. And even then, it took Cleveland's kicker missing a long FG to win.

It's all about fantasy football now and I have Tom Brady in a Fox league . He tripled his points in the 4th qtr . Mashed potatoes , gravy , cranberry sauce , wooooooooooooooooooo !!!

Give the Browns' kicker (Cundiff) a break - that was a 59-yarder. And he barely missed it.

Note: Screw the Patriots. That maybe was defensive holding since it happened early in the receiver's route, which would've been a 10-yard penalty. No way it was pass interference.

And karma's already come to the Patriots: Gronkowski reportedly has a torn ACL.

While watching these important end of season College Football plus firing of Gary Kubiak I would be more in favor of an experienced, brilliant College Head Coach with proven track records for turning around programs.

That being said I was impressed with interview & then on field coaching of Michigan State HC Mark Dantonio. In 7 years with Spartans he has molded them into the #1 ranked defensive team in the country & Michigan States first Rose Bowl in 26 years. Good evaluator of talent, good staff sound in all phases, 33 years of College Coaching experience, no NFL but see no reason why he couldn't? Like his character, disciplined team, makes good adjustments & clock management.

As I make my plans to go to the Rose Bowl, I have to say no to this. Dantonio is a Spartan, and has certain goals he wants to accomplish.

I freely admit to wanting him fired last year. Glad we're going to the Rose Bowl, but, it's taken Danronio way too long to get it together.

And: he knows very little about offense, and seems overly loyal.

@Nick_Mathews: #Texans will NOT pursue Mike Shanahan if he's fired from Redskins, @McClain_on_NFL reports.

Jon Gruden, analyst, ESPN -- Just about everyone figures he’ll return at some point. Owners continue to check out his interest.

Lance Zierlein (@LanceZierlein)
I said it last night and I'll say this again. Jon Gruden is notorious for wanting "control of the 53" and Rick Smith isn't giving that up

"I'm just trying to do my job," Gruden said. "I'm not going to address every little rumor or supposed conversation that takes place, according to these so-called sources. There are a lot of good coaches out there available to coach these teams. I'm just hoping ESPN likes the the job I'm doing. That's my focus."

Scratch Chuckie off the list.

Does it seem like more than a coincidence that McNair surprisingly fired Kubiak before the end of the season... Then, we discover that Sumlin has yet to sign his contract? I think Sumlin is a serious candidate and likely a reason for the firing... After all, no NFL team is hiring right now. Also, no coaches with NFL jobs will be interviewing before the end of the season.... I think the job may be sumlin's if he impresses in the interview and wants it.

I am not a fan of Chucky but that is piss poor reasoning by LZ. We don't even know if Smith isn't going to get Casserly'd. We certainly don't know that McNair has all the sudden ceded all control to Smith. I doubt very much McNair is going to let Smith keep him from a HC he wants.

Yep, the timing of firing Kubiak tells me Sumlin is in McNair's serious HC candidate list.

If that happens, strike my username from this board and I'll find another team. Book it.

Some appealing possibilities are Jack del Rio, Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban. Of those who will be available, among those we want least are Mike Shanahan and Mack Brown.

Just got a text from an out-of-town friend whose opinion I respect and knows a ton about football: "You guys have to get David Shaw at Stanford."

Jesus, Ok, what's the deal with David Shaw? I don't know much about him, but everyone is raving about him. Is he that good?

The guy has taken what Harbaugh built at Stanford and improved on it. Probably the most well coached team in the country with the talent level not close to its ranking. I'd love to have Shaw even though I'm not sure how his style would adapt to having 2 really good receivers on the outside. That's a luxury he's never had at Stanford although they always keep good Tight Ends.
