Mariota

Still holding out for Chip...

2015 1st & 2nd
2016 1st & 2nd

One of those 2nds could be a 3rd.

C'mon, Chip!

Tim McManus
Tim McManus "I'm somewhere around 60%... If he's trying to drive this thing home, he's going to do it."

Tim McManus "Two 1sts, future 2nd round, Cox, Kendricks, and Vinny Curry is the latest package to be in the deal."

Tim McManus "In the last 48 hours, I've strengthened my thoughts on Chip Kelly swinging real hard for Mariota."

Supposedly will trade Bradford to Browns... as a stepping stone of sorts to get up to #2. Lot of moving parts, tough to engineer it all imo. But would be a masterful move if he could pull it off.

Ahh, I see. I was on twitter also for some help. Would be very hard to pull off but Chip Kelly gives off a mad scientist persona, I could see him do it.

Just to be clear, this is this guys opinion. He hints at "inside" signals in his articles, to support a "feeling" he has...

Would Kelly really be willing to hand over the ransom that it would take to get there? Isn’t this whole concept a bit detached from reality? But in a search for stop signs behind the scenes, the vast majority of the people we’ve spoken to have signaled us forward. That continues to be the case even with the draft just one day away.

He doesn't think the Titans want to drop below 16...

"If you think there's 16, 17 first-round picks, then I think you have to be careful to go below that," he said.
Why don't they throw Sam Bradford in the deal?

He says...
Sam Bradford has also been mentioned as a possible trade piece, but his reluctance to sign an extension elsewhere likely complicates things to a point where his situation would be handled separately.

Pulling off a trade like this is no easy task, especially when there are other variables involved that could derail a deal. For instance, if the Chargers are in fact willing to trade Philip Rivers to Tennessee, it could very well be game over.

Personally, I don't think that much of Mariota. Good prospect, yeah... maybe. But I don't think any college coach will be that enamored by any player, even a QB, especially when he's released so little control to that QB during the time they played together. Mariota was a "puppet" not given the varying amounts of control other spread QBs have gotten in the past (like Bortles & Garrapolo calling their own plays).

I think Kelly is just letting people believe what they want to believe like all the other smoke we see this time of year. It can't hurt him. But I liken this to Pete Carroll having absolutely no interest in Matt Lienart outside of USC.

Is Mariota top 5 worthy? Sure. If I had a top 5 pick, I'd have my fingers crossed. Is Mariota worth trading up to get him? Sure. If he drops below 8, I hope we make a play.

Is he worth two 1st round picks & three young talents to move up 18 spots?

I'm saying no.

Would you trade two #1s and two #2s for the Texans to get a QB that can operate your offense at a level that perennially puts you in playoff contention? Mariota=that guy for Chip.

Well then if the answer is obvious, I don't consider it masterful either.

Determined, decisive I would go with.

If I'm Tenn. and these offer rumors are true, it would only strengthen my resolve to keep him.
His college coach wants him back so badly that he's willing to mortgage the future of his club...? Can Mariota get a better endorsement...? Anywhere??

Kelly is overplaying his hand.

My next move - again, if I'm Tenn. - is to find someone from Oregon who can install this offense, or some version of it, in my playbook.

Marcus Mariota trade rumors involving the Eagles getting Johnny Manziel are back

link

The Cleveland Browns have the 12 and the 19 and they're interested in Bradford. They're interested in Bradford. It would include Manziel going back to the Eagles and Bradford going to the Browns, the 12 and the 19 going to the (Eagles), the 20 going to the (Browns)... one spot doesn't make much difference, but that was the trade as explained to me... and Manziel's contract going to the Eagles.

Makes sense as a throw in. Manziel can move, decent backup potential for Kelly's offense. If he breathes the wrong direction Chip'll just cut him.

Yeah it does make sense... I'll lmao tho if this trade goes thru but then he fails to land Mariota. He'll be stuck with Tebow and Manziel

Mariota may not have been given the kind of control that Bortles or Garoppolo were allowed to have, but it was because of the pace that they move at, not because he wasn't trusted.

If you're trying to get plays off at lightning speed you need everything to be called and ready to go before you even line up. They don't want the QB making adjustments unless he sees something that suggests they need to audible, which doesn't happen often because the defenses have to play extremely vanilla to keep up with the pace.

And he had far more control over play calls and protections than Winston did. But nobody talks about that. Florida St just audibles more often, so it appears that Winston is doing more at the LOS.

Could Kelly just be posturing to throw people off his trail? Sure. But what's the benefit to him? Mariota is going long before his pick if he stands pat. So why all the games to stir something up that doesn't impact his pick one bit?

One more player pushed down is one more player pushed down.

& we don't know where he'll end up picking. He may end up with Cleveland's pick, or the Jags (if he can't get the Titans pick) & be going after someone else entirely.

The absolute only way your theory makes sense is if he wants to trade into #3 but also ensure that the QBs are the first two picks, so he's trying to create a situation where either TEN takes Mariota there or someone else trades up to that spot to take him. Because in any other scenario Mariota was going to go before his selection anyway, so it's not pushing anyone down who wasn't already going to be pushed down.

I'm saying he doesn't want Mariota. Maybe he wants Leonard Williams. If he's got Tennessee thinking he really wants Mariota & they take Mariota just so they don't lose face (Kelly is pumping his value), or someone else trades with the Titans to get him, he swoops in to take Williams with the third, or he gets the Raider's pick to get White, or even the Jets pick to get Cooper.
