Mario movement rumors (MERGED) Signs with Buffalo $100 million

Only if they would of listened to Pat Kirwin. :chickendance:

When interviewed, Kyle Williams who escorted Mario around said in talking to Mario Williams he asked what Mario was looking for and Mario said "I just want to be a piece of the puzzle that helps a team get over the hump".

Does that sound like he wants to fly home and sign a contract with us?

Sorry Mario, I am a huge fan, but you don't get to be a "piece of the puzzle" and get $50million guaranteed. If you want to be the highest paid defensive player, you have to be THE MAN. That is why you should come back to Houston for $8million a year and just be a man in the shadows and JJ Watt can do all the interviews and spotlight for you.

Everyone wringing their hands over the lack of Texans movement need to understand they are negotiating from a position of strength. McNair's assembled first class coaching talent now, and coaching is key in the NFL.

Having said all that, nothing happens until Mario's off the board. And he's probably gone, because my travels up north have taught me ESPN has that part of the country believing Mario Williams is an all time proverbial "beast". Seriously, you wouldn't believe it. People gush over this guy based on his ESPN hilight ragdolling Roethlisberger.

Kinda funny how ESPN talking heads today all saying how great it would be for Mario to sign with Buffalo ... great for the league, great fans ...

More like Mario would be taking one for the league. Buffalo has a player, now. "Thanks Mario" ... enjoy your stay up there. :ahhaha:

Nothing happens until Mario's off the board. What, you want them to cap out only to have Mario Williams come back ready to do a reasonable deal? That wouldn't be smart. For all the bitching we do about him, he's in his prime. We don't want to lose him now, if we can somehow afford him.

I said the same thing about 20 post back! We just need to simmah down and see what happens.

Then everyone can continue to b!tch ;)

While I was off MB, Espn reported that Mario had left Buffalo and headed for airport. Someone else allegedly did a "drive by" interview with Williams who said he was waiting to pickup his fiance who was flying in.

For a few years there, he was pretty much the only thing that made the Texans interesting. Now we are all grown up and have lots of talent!

If and when Williams signs with the Bills, the Texans may become more active. They've set aside the money they offered the outside linebacker/defensive end in case he changes course and decides to accept.

If he doesn't, those dollars will come free and we can expect them to try to retain their free-agent center, Chris Myers

WAIT! So we are holding back on signing ANYONE while Mario makes up his damn mind?? WTH?

If he signs, they should do nothing but praise how awesome Mario WAS in order to get this new big, fat deal with Buffalo.

I want to see them doing "We were wrong" stories about how Houston was dumb to select him over Reggie and Vince.

Instead, they will be saying "Houston is stoopid" for not setting aside enough money and cap space to afford re-signing him. "How could they let him get away? Yeah, they were smart to select him in the draft...but why be smart in the draft and then become stoopid when he hits free agency?"

I can see it now. It's going to happen. Houston will never be afforded any credit in its fullest form. Probably not even if we win a SB. They will think of reasons why we lucked out and why we will not repeat the next year. It is what it is, right?

That was earlier today, not this evening

They have been pretty fair. They have been saying that the reason Mario is available is because he's too expensive for the team and team had success without him.

I haven't heard any ragging on the team yet, I think they are just happy about him possibly going there. Although I'm sure it wouldn't be such a big story for them if he were just resigning.

Correct. See? You thought you had it figured out. You thought you found a way to let the talking heads SEEM to be talking positive about us...but then you realized how it wouldn't have been HUGE NEWS! if the Texans had re-signed him.

LOL. I'm just messing around. Bored as hell right now, there's nothing else to talk about.

Has any other Texans UFA signed with any other team yet?

Who is just DYING to get their hands on Dominique Barber? Jason Allen? All these guys would be thankful if the Texans produced a contract for them to sign.

I have a feeling that we might not be willing to give Myers, and maybe Briesel, what they want...so they're having their agents check around for a better deal somewhere else. In the meantime, Mario is dragging his act out as long as he can...probably at his agent's request (to try and get more money out of Houston..."This is your laaaaast chance, Bob! We're gonna' sign, Bob. We're in Buffalo, Bob! Hello? Bob, are you there? Hello? Can you spare $500,000 more?").

All will end well. Rick got this.

Really?!?!

LOL. But that's it, so far, right? See, there has yet to be a mass exodus.

Yeah - Myers, Brisiel, Winston and obviously Mario have either made visits, or have them set up (Winston's got about five of 'em), but so far just Vickers.

So Ward, Allen, Barber, Rackers, Dreessen, and a lot of other Texans UFAs have not made noise thus far in free agency? No tweets nor other media leaks about those guys having visits lined up or other teams looking at them, right?

Mario is the linchpin here, in this free agency saga we're enduring. Then it's Myers, and maybe Briesel to a degree. Mario and Myers are the possibly holding this stuff up. I hope the Texans reach a limit and say "OK, that's enough time. You wanna' deal or you wanna' walk? Your choice. What's it gonna' be?"

I don't want us getting our asses handed to us by a few teams who raid the cupboard while we're outside looking for Mario and Myers.

Oh yeah - Dreessen has at least a couple also (Cowboys, Saints). Haven't heard anything about anyone else.

Edit: Make that just the Saints.

The cupboard would comprise of hardly anything even if we signed everyone else but mario & meyers so i'm not worrying about the figurative cupboard being raided.

I liken it to making spaghetti. without the pasta & the sauce, you're not making spaghetti dude; even if you have the parmasean cheese, the meatballs & anything else you want to add to it.

I am surprised that Mario hasn't visited with other teams...are they the only ones interested?!? I would def. checkout other teams since the Bills haven't exactly been relevant in years....also, he'll be playing in more cold weather games. Can he just be using the Bills to set the price for the Texans?

Yep,and as I said, its buffalo will have to beat 44m in the 1st 3 yrs and even then bob gets a return match call.

If this is what we are doing it would be the stupidest move this team ever made. Even stupider than drafting David Carr over Peppers. Basically we would be giving up 3 starting OL for 1 defensive player that hasn't played since the 5th game of last year when we already have a top 2 defense. On top of that it would strap us up against the cap for the next 3 years.

I don't care if McNair and Mario are gay lovers, there is no way he is going to do that to this franchise.

Personally I hope he signs with the Titans along with Manning. It will make it that much more satisfying when we whoop their asses. Bud can go to his grave seeing JJ Watt sacking Peyton, ending his career and watch Mario sit on the sideline, injured, soaking up their cap space not allowing them to improve their team for the next 5 or 6 years.

He's gonna freeze his azzzzz off, IF he signs with Buffalo! Going from a stadium like Reliant to one of the WORST in the league will be a shocker for Mario. I've been to their stadium, and it sucks!

Not sure he'll get very far in sub zero temps and 20 ft of snow in that lambo he loves so much either. Hell, the City of Houston even allowed him to run his friggin car at Ellington!

BUT, MONEY seems to be more important to some of these guys these days than truly trying to help a team win a SB. He's got a good thing going here in Houston, has made plenty of money to secure the future for his family, and I bet the Texans are not offering him chump change to stay. BUT, that's not good enough. Hope he freezes his nuts off!!:snowday:

Is this what happened to you?

If u think they had to cut winston to have a contract for mario, you're wrong. They also have the same setup for meyers, but they have to resolve the mario situation 1st. Briesel is cheap and has had a small contract every yr, they know they can easily sign him.

Again, they need to see what mario does. His contract cap charge will be around 12m this season,so they will have plenty to sign meyers and briesel if they choose to. Remember how and where they got those guys and how they've developed those guys too. Meyers was a 5th and traded for a 5th. Briesel has always been a free agent somehow. Through the years, they've added players via the draft on the oline. If mario resigns and meyers think he's worth more and leaves, then maybe it will be time for the other guys to step up. If mario leaves, then the same will be asked by reed, barwin and company. Its really no different and neither meyers or briesel play a premium position. We will know something later today. Its probably a tough decision either way.

This is beginning to remind me of when Orlando Pace and his agent played Casserly in order to get a better deal from the Rams. Mario being Pace, Buddy Nix being Casserly, and the Texans being the Rams.

If i were him i want to leave this place too..the fans here just don't appreciate this dude & never have.

Drafted #1 overall in 2006............................"why didn't we get VY?"
"why didn't we get Bush?"

11 & 14 sack seasons.........."If he had more than a bullrush, he could've had 20"
"if he had a high motor he could've had 20"

playing OLB in Wade's system........"He's not quick enough off the edge"
" not a fluid enough athlete"

Exploring his options as a FA................. "he's all about the money"
"we don't need him.."

& on & on...on. On 1 hand, I reeeaaally want to see him come back to houston & finish out his potential HOF career here. But on the other, i think the kid deserves more & would like to see him go to a place where fans actually want him. I wonder how much of an effect being in a place like that would have on him & his career.

Accurately reflects how I feel about this Mario thing.

ill add some

Hes to big for a OLB ...... seriously in this day of age we need both of our OLB the can COver and play zone and hell man to man

We may be negotiating from a position of strength, but we aren't acting like it.

We are waiting on Mario... appears that he is negotiating from a position of strength.

So all the power is in Mario's hands.... & Myers' hand.

It's easy for me to sit here & say what I would do. It's not my job on the line, but Rick Smith's. But here's the deal. If I were negotiating from a position of strength, my discussion with Mario & Myers would have been, " here's my best offer, if you think you can do substantially better, it was nice working with you."

I am not going to get into a bidding war with one of the worst teams in the league with deep pockets.

If I've got $14M on the line & he thinks he can get $15 or $16, then we can talk. If he's fine with the $14 but has issue with the guaranteed money, we can talk.

But I'm not going to $16 or $18, when I was uncomfortable with $14 to begin with. Same goes for Myers.

As an NFL GM, I should know what the valuation of a player is & that's where I need to draw my line. As an NFL Player's Agent, I would expect the same knowledge of valuation. My number is based on true value, his number is based on possible value. If our two numbers are too far off, then I'm done.

Just like when you go buy a car. As a sales man, if you're too far under MSRP, I'm not going to waste the time to get you in my office to "negotiate" I'm going to try to blow you off & move on to the next prospect.

There isn't another Mario Williams in FA or the Draft, there isn't another Chris Myers, but we made them more than they made us.

It's time to move on

Of course I'd be doing back-flips if they sign with us

Oh please spare us the self-righteous piety. This is an Internet message board and people are allow to vent their feelings and state their opinions. Such comments from message board posters do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the whole fan.

If Mario wants to spend the next few years in Buffalo or Chicago or wherever then fine. Just sign the paper already so the Texans can move on with their plans.

Thunder- its easier to find a meyers than a mario, but with that said, there are some targets in the draft and free agency.

if they lose mario, I hope they don't overpay wimbley. Romeo in cleveland made the assumption they had to get him free to get a sack. Now the last 2 yrs he's gotten a lot better and have been able to convert his speed to power. He would be a good value at 9m per yr,but nothing more. I would also like to see marcus benard come in. He missed last yr because he got hurt, but he looks natural standing up and rushing.

In regards to replacing meyers, I think he's made for certain types of teams. He's not an anchor type, buthes great on that train track in zone scheme. Just like they plucked him off denver for a 5th,I think they know his value, but he's gonna have to wait on mario.

This is dragging out too long if your a Bills fan, as Mario is spending too much time thinking about it (or maybe he's waiting to see what Manning does ?).
I for one would rather play the Titans with Manning/without Mario than vice-versa ?

this is dragging on to much for texans fans!

Mario is just weighing his options. If the Texans really wanted him they would have franchised him then worked out a long term cap friendly deal. He will probably take less from another team than sign with Buffalo & would have taken even less to remain a Texan :toropalm:

Mario is gone from Houston, TX. Forget about Mario, we are struggling mightily to just put a deal together to retain Chris Myers. That's our top priority now, Mario is history in Houston.

I think the only person in Houston that needs to be convinced of this is Uncle Bob. Uncle Bob, you gotta let him go.

I think Mario's a good player, but man, it sounds like the Bills are going to screw themselves in a major way. I'm hearing at least 50 guaranteed
