London Game

Sideline

Veteran
Off to see the Giants and Dolphins in London Town on Sunday, Cant wait to get in there for my second NFL game. Will be sporting my Texans colours though as you would expect.

Anybody going to be tuning into the game before the Texans game sunday?

Just watch the soccer hooligans get drunk and tear the place up. I hope this blows up in the NFLs faces. Just don't think its right for those Brits to get a regular season game. It seems only fair that if the NFL wanted to do this that the Germans should have been given the game since they have more of an appreciation for american football. I would think since 5 out of the 6 NFL europe teams were in that country. The Brits that come to this game are coming to get on american TV and show us that they can get drunker than us anytime. lol

World Series is on our local Fox affiliate.

I've looked at every channel in the guide, and I'm not seeing a listing.

NFL Follies on NFLN
Scrubs on NBC
Boston College game on ESPN
CSI on CBS
MLS on ESPN2

I can't believe we don't get it. idonno:

btw a lot of Phin fans were upset big time over the loss of the game when it was announced. haven't heard any complaining since then tho.

the good thign is that there's a lot of british dolphins fans (quite a few post on Finheaven), and they're going nuts over this. and the country as a whole is going huge about this game. so they're not just looking at it as a novelty, they're really interested in this.

It's not a night game. It is the noon game.

Or it could just be Miami's Cheerleaders. :secret:

Sideline, have a great time, and there's no doubt in my mind that you will represent our Texans well. BUT, I will have to say this, I HATE the idea of taking our boys across the big pond just to bleed the Brits out of their money! It's an AMERICAN game, and not fair to cheat American's out of a home game! IMHO, the NFL and it's owner's are greedy SOB's!!!

I do not agree with taking a regular season game over there. A friendly or exhibition is fine.

Kroenke and Kraft are leading the charge on this one. More than American Football is at stake here.

Its the dolphins. A winless team minus their starting QB, minus their #1 RB, minus their #1 WR, and minus their #1 defender. No one would be excited

Have fun Sideline! Root for my Giants! I'll be watching the game from here.

The NFL has a very strong & loyal following in the UK.

We never took to NFL Europe because as educated fans we were aware it was a sub par poor excuse for the real thing. The standard of play was awful & each team had a 90% roster turnover after every season. What was there to like about it.

There will be a lot of European fans at this game as well as English ones.

I don't know if it's a good idea or not.I can empathize with the American fans who've lost a home game. That certainly sucks.

IMO it's all about money.Spread the brand name & increase the TV rights, merchandising & marketing revenues. It won't succeed if the quality of the game is as poor as this weeks.

No one could predict the loss of Ronnie Brown or Zach Thomas but this has the makings of one of the worst Dolphins showings in team history. Not a great foundation to build a fan base on.

Your Giants?? All this time I thought they were my Giants...damn. Well regardless Sideline, have a great time. Not having a specific team to root for makes for a great time for sure..And wear them Texans colors proudly !!

Dolphins player creates an impression.

Miami Dolphins linebacker Channing Crowder has admitted not knowing people speak English in London.

The NFL player might want to check a map before he gets on board a plane for Sunday's prestige game against the New York Giants at Wembley Stadium.

Crowder, who comes from Atlanta in Georgia, may be praised on the field, but confessed geography was not his strong point.

He admitted he did not know until now where London was - or that Londoners spoke English.

"I couldn't find London on a map if they didn't have the names of the countries," he said.

"I swear to God. I don't know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I learned that."

Crowder added: "I know (Washington Redskins linebacker) London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him.

"That's the closest thing I know to London. He's black, so I'm sure he's not from London. I'm sure that's a coincidental name."

LMAO. Not a great start.

actually found this on The Onion

http://www.theonion.com/content/news_briefs/miami_dolphins_wonder_if

MIAMI-While preparing for their upcoming game in London against the New York Giants, the struggling Miami Dolphins spent most of the week's practices trying to answer questions concerning differences in the football itself, whether the gaps in a British line were numbered backwards, and whether or not England has end zones. "All right…I know when you cross the Atlantic that the strong side is the weak side and weak side is the strong side, so you drive down the opposite side of the field," said Dolphins quarterback Cleo Lemon, who confessed he was concerned about the team's two-minute drill since he was not sure of the length of the British minute. "But, if I'm right-handed, I don't have to throw with my left, do I? And how do we get first downs since they don't have yards over there? I knew I should have watched NFL Europe when it was still on." Lemon added that he was worried that the ball would spiral in the opposite direction in England, although the coaches had reassured him he was thinking of Australia.

ha.

That really doesn't bode well for FU...

Yesterday's Debriefing addressed this very topic. Click on the title to read the whole article. It is hilarious.

The Debriefing: Helping the Brits Transition to American Football

Physical contact. This is going to seem very strange, but sometimes, in American football, opposing players will touch each other, and when they do, neither of them will go flailing to the ground as if they've just been shot in the neck with a high-powered rifle. This will be the biggest adjustment for you.
Knowing when the game ends. Your game lasts 90 minutes, and you're usually home in two hours ... our game lasts 60 minutes, and you'll be lucky to be home in 3 and a half hours. I'm actually on your side with this one ... the NFL should go to two 60-minute halves in which the clock runs non-stop.

But there's another clock issue. We do this weird thing where we have our clock count downwards instead of upwards, so that players and fans don't have to be good at subtraction (this comes in very handy for Jeremy Shockey) and guessing to know how much time is left.

And even more baffling then that, the players stop playing when the clock hits a certain point. In the case of this game, the game will end when the clock shows 0:00 at the end of the final quarter. And I mean precisely then, unlike the British soccer method of, "Eh, we'll stop the game somewhere depending on 45:00 and 50:00, depending on how things are going."

From the USA Today:

But for those on the ground, breaking new NFL trails, such as Fox NFL reporter Tony Siragusa, the mission has risks. "I'm lying in bed and my feet are hanging 2 feet over, it's so small," says Siragusa, 6-4 and 340 pounds. "In showers, I have one leg out. Everything here is, like, miniature. I'm in Wonka land."

Uh, I would think that almost everything would too freakin' small for Tony Siragusa....

Have yall seen how pissed off Jerry Jones is at the idea of the league making all its teams play abroad? He is bent , he said there is no way the Cowboys will loose a home game. He doesnt want to loose his money to make the league better. It show why we here in SA do not have a team because it would take away from his fanbase and if the NFL goes global(like the NBA) then people in Europe might not buy as many Cowboys Jersies. Man .... Jerry are they gonna have to pry your last dollar out of your cold dead hand?

Tight wad. This is the NFL not the National teams who play the Cowboys league.

Thanks guys, I will be representing do not worry, really looking forward to the game should be great.

I can totally understand where you guys are coming from with losing a game, and I do agree that it is wrong that teams should lose a regular season game to another country and I also think most British fans do realize the same however when we are presented with this game in our lap, we may as well take it up.

I have to say that while this is America’s game I think it’s very wrong to think that there will be no noise and people are going just to get on “American TV”. While Football may not be the country’s sport in general there are fans like myself who have been brought up on the game just like many of you, their are many hardcore and very well educated fans over here and ALOT of them. Many may have never been to an NFL game before, so whoever is playing, wherever they are playing we will go and see, and we will love it, for the chance to be watching the NFL not just to get on "American TV"

I promise you that stadium will be noisy beyond belief, and I wouldn’t put it past the Dolphins to sneak a win here, although a regular season game this is unlike any other in my opinion, different country, different city, different fans, it will have an atmosphere where a winless team may be able to just sneak a win.

I’ll be taking my camera down to London with me so will post the photographs on the internet when I return.

Yeah, yeah... I'm sure your concerned.... J/K :sarcasm:

The New Wembley stadium holds like 90,000 - right?? That should be loud..

On a side note, I have the Texans first game (against Dallas 19-10) on tape, and after the game, the local news here interviewed a contingency from England that was here to scout out our then - new stadium... The English guys were extremely impressed.. It was at a time when London was having problems getting funding the for the new stadium and one guy said, "if we could have brought everyone over to see this stadium (Reliant), that they would have had no issue getting it approved" -or- something to that effect.
