Of course I do. Just look at the Texans reaction post draft - they went free agency immediately after the draft (missed out on early board IOL board prospects) signing Jake Andrews, Center, former Patriot 4th rd. pick. Are they going to kick Ersery or Fisher inside? One thing for sure these, all Popovich guys so I'm assuming they expect he can coach them up ala Patriot style.Overall, yes; but my comment was specifically picks in the top 100. Cowboys picked OL at 12 and 204. Lions at 57 and 171. Commanders at 29. The odds on a pick outside of the top 150 contributing next season are long. Do you really think adding a fifth or sixth round IOL would have that much impact on how you feel about the oline?
Fits Eagles OL must be at least 6’6“
Ok, so if drafting a second OL in the late rounds would make you feel better, who would that have been?Of course I do. Several of us here our second round target was Tate Ratledge OG Georgia. Willing to trade up for him too. Lets just say Texans selected him instead of Ersery #48? They still had two thirds, use one on Jaylin Noel and other trade up a couple spots like they did but instead of drafting USC CB Jaylin Smith draft OT Charles Grant #99? Oh yeah, FCS small school prospect. Lol
I would agree that generally, Patterson being example of exception, starting offensive linenen go earlier rather than later. Hence we saw run on Guards & Tackles in first then Texsns trading up in the second.
Cowboys, Raiders, Seahawks, Patriots, Bears, Ravens & Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles all drafted at least two, if not three OL. These seven teams we’re all graded out as top 10 draft classes for 2025 by Trevor Sikkeema.
Two of those elite teams (KC did it via FA). But Ravens graded #2 OL in 2024, Eagles still considered #1 even with Becton leaving via free agency.
Until Texans prove the OL is fixed, they need to proritize trenches & best, chespest way is via the draft.
I know and most, if not all (haven't double checked them) went 1 OL early and 1/2 late.Cowboys, Raiders, Seahawks, Patriots, Bears, Ravens & Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles all drafted at least two, if not three OL. Just for your reference. Already posted what I would have done differntly.I know and most, if not all (haven't double checked them) went 1 OL early and 1/2 late.
So once again, who are the late round guys (Because like all of those teams Houston did draft an OL early) you think would have had an impact on the Oline this year or next?
Edit: We're basing this on draft grades...really?
Fair enoughJust for your reference. Already posted what I would have done differently.
I think the Texans did enough OL wise in FA to not act desperate in this year's draft. They've got enough to put together a decent OL & get to the 2026 draft. My hope and gut tells me you will see a much faster paced attack focused on getting the ball out of Stroud’s hand. If the offensive lineman weren’t held in high regard, what is the next way to make that happen. With playmakers who can create early separation. Higgins / Noel / Marks all check that box and give us something we didn’t have once Diggs went down and ESPECIALLY after Dell went down as well.
Is Conerly moving to RT or Coleman? I haven't paid attention to Washington or anyone else other than the Texans.
And y’all don’t see a gifted QB like JD gets a lock down, blind side protector, who can seal off the backside, in steps Conerly they put him on Jaden’s right side, be it run or pass, he doesn’t hit his target(s)? Either JD breaks big run, or he connects with a weapon in space. There will be no second season slump, it will be a continuation of year one, in the toughest division in football.
Tunsil didn’t prevent our guy from sophomore slumping.

Neither did Kenyon Green, Schultz etc....Tunsil didn’t prevent our guy from having sophomore slumping.
just saying

& that's my point. Many a slip 'twixt cup & a lip.I’d say the Texans offensive unit’s 2024 slump can be 100% contributed to the following in order:
1. Coaching
2. Poor Scheme and Play Calling
3. Piss Poor OL Play
4. Injuries
5. CJ
6. Quality of Depth Chart
& that's my point. Many a slip 'twixt cup & a lip.
We had Tunsil & Howard & two dynamic young QBs behind them... moving Tunsil to Washington doesn't guarantee Daniels won't have issues.
Has he ever been subject to a good coaching staff?Serious question: Has Tunsil ever been part of what’s considered a “good” OL?
The Texans certainly never were. And the Dolphins were Adam Gase teams. Maybe his rookie year in 2016 he was part of a good OL?
Has he ever been subject to a good coaching staff?
I thought people complained a lot about Warhop when he was hereHe had Warhop as OL coach that one season.
The Redskins have upgraded their ol with the Tunsil trade and picking Conerly.& that's my point. Many a slip 'twixt cup & a lip.

In Miami they had a good ol when he was there. He's had nothing but crap around him down on Kirby. Schaping/Martin/GREEN ETC....Serious question: Has Tunsil ever been part of what’s considered a “good” OL?

I know. That wasn't in question. The Redskins have upgraded their ol with the Tunsil trade and picking Conerly.
He was good here. Top 5 OTIn Miami they had a good ol when he was there. He's had nothing but crap around him down on Kirby. Schaping/Martin/GREEN ETC....
We will see how he does with the Redskins since they've added talent to their ol.
Warhop had less to do with building that OL in Baltimore than he did with the one here. Other than Tunsil, how was the OL here in 2022? That had nothing to do with the comment I made. We have yet to see if Popovich is any good or not so that question is not relevant either.Warhop is the guy that came into camp with the Ravens and coached them into a top 5 OL.
Green looked good his rookie year prior to injury. We have hashed out that situation. And Tunsil had his best PFF blocking grade as a Texan the year he was here (if PFF grades matter to you).
Would you rather have Warhop back or Popovich this season?

Strausser was awful, I'll give you that, The OL last yr was a combination of too old, too young and dumb. What you said about Warhop is true, but the aging LT stayed healthy last yr, was a top 10 LT, he also had probably the best C in the NFL to work with and Falaele (SP?) was a very good OG. Then they drafted the better OT than the Texans did to play RT. So there was/is a talent issue.Easy to excuse away success. Ravens OL was in transition with 3 new starters (1 rookie) and an aging LT. They were a top 5 OL and Warhop did not have the benefit of a full offseason with the group. It was one of the most impressive assistant coaching jobs in the NFL last season.
The 2022 Texans were talent deficient yet allowed only 38 sacks with the Mills/Kyle Allen/Jeff Driskel platoon running into pressure. Pierce was on his way to a pro bowl season as a rookie and when he got hurt the running game took a step back because of the likes of old man Rex Burkhead and Royce Freeman running the ball. Not many OLs can open a hole wide enough for them.
Tunsil had a career year under Warhop and the OL was just below league average despite having one of the least talented offenses in the league. They outperformed their projection.
The only other time that happened since Kubiak was here were the 2023 Texans OL but we saw OL coach Strausser check out amongst all the other issues in 2024.
Maybe I'm not following, I thought this was the question, or is this turning into a bash Tunsil thread even though he was by far their best OL and one of the best in the NFL.I know. That wasn't in question.
Depends on what type of offense they're going to run and I certainly wasn't impressed with Warhop during his time down on Kirby. He was a Devlin level OL coach. I set the bar very high when it comes to OL coaches. Joe Bugel/Alex Gibbs/Bob McKittrick/Scarnecchia OL coaches. Fortunately Caley/Popivich worked under Scarnecchia. I'm hoping they learned well.Warhop is the guy that came into camp with the Ravens and coached them into a top 5 OL.

No maybe about it.Maybe I'm not following,
The Redskins have a capable veteran C and Cosmi when healthy at some point next yr is a very good OG. They think Coleman will be an upgrade at LG. Obviously they identified OT as the main weakness on the OL. If Conerly is as good as BL/me think he is then their OL should be very good next yr. Plus they've got veteran depth. No maybe about it.
beerlover said the Redskins are serious about preventing their 2nd year QB from having a sophomore slump. He cited the trade for Laremy Tunsil & drafting Conerly as proof.
My reply is we had Larrmy Tunsil & Tytus, still our QB sophomore slumped.
Stay with me. This is not about Tytus Howard (who did his job, QB pressure did not come from the edges). It’s not a knock on Tunsil. Just a spotlight on bad logic.
The redskins traded for Tunsil & drafted Conerly, therefore the redskins are more determined to protect their young QB than the Texans.
Never mind that the Texans had Tunsil last year & drafted Fisher.
We’re not in the same place as the’skins. We already tried what the redskins are doing & we’re moving to step 2
Again you’re not following. This has nothing to do with Tunsil not preventing Cj from slumping. The Redskins have a capable veteran C and Cosmi when healthy at some point next yr is a very good OG. That's not my point, this has nothing to do with Stroud. This has to do with the talent that was in Houston around Tunsil vs what will be around him with the Redskins.Again you’re not following. This has nothing to do with Tunsil not preventing Cj from slumping.
So your point has nothing to do with the conversation you butted into. That's not my point, this has nothing to do with Stroud. This has to do with the talent that was in Houston around Tunsil vs what will be around him with the Redskins.
I think what I said is I didn't understand the conversation and no I didn't mean to but in. Would you mind letting me know the points of y'alls conversation? That's all I was asking you to do and instead I had to post 4-5 more times to make myself clear. Maybe I'm just a bit off today. So your point has nothing to do with the conversation you butted into.
It was clearly stated in the post you quoted.Would you mind letting me know the points of y'alls conversation?
Remember, it's not about the redskins OL. It's about Tunsil & a QB's sophomore slump.& that's my point. Many a slip 'twixt cup & a lip.

I bet Daniels doesn't suffer a sophomore slump. Is that staying on topic. It was clearly stated in the post you quoted.

Probably got a high S2 scoreI bet Daniels doesn't suffer a sophomore slump. Is that staying on topic.
