Was he actually fired? Or did they just not renew his contract?
He was Fired

Statement from Chair and CEO Cal McNair:
"I met with Executive Vice President of Football Operations Jack Easterby and we have mutually agreed to part ways. For the remainder of the season, effective immediately, his responsibilities will be absorbed by our Football Operations staff. We acknowledge Jack's positive contributions and wish him and his family the best in the future."

Football Operations staff consist of Nick Caserio and Lovie Smith

Wait a minute. The franchise changed, but are you giving Easterby credit for those changes?

1. According to Hopkins, he forced BOB's hand and the trade
2. Watson's off-field behavior is the reason he's not here
3. BOB was fired for a losing record.

Am I missing something?
Rumor has it Easterby knew what the Clemson trash were up too. This explains the tweets from them.

BOB was stabbed in the back by Easterby.

Yep. Yeah, the franchise has changed. They used to win enough games to make the playoffs. lol

So Easterby knew but he was part of signing that "Clemson trash" to a massive guaranteed contract? :um: Your narrative is not connecting the dots here.

Occam's razor: Easterby's resume so impressed the neophyte owner - who desperately wanted to complete his dad's last wish to hire Caserio - that once the snake-oil salesman was in the building, he BS'ed his way to amass more power than he was qualified to wield.

Why was he fired after five games into a season? And why on a Monday? The Texans clearly wanted the media to praise them for this story. Why now is the interesting part. My own gut is that he double-crossed someone in the building that had the sway to finally kick his ass to the curb.

If your goal is only to make the playoffs, then you should be peeing in your pants happy with the BOB era. 3 time AFC Division Champs Brian.

I'm hoping Caserio will be left alone by Cal and can rebuild this franchise like Luhnow rebuilt the Astros.

So you'd rather have losing records than going to the playoffs? You should be in Heaven right now.

p.s. I have no "goals" with regards to the Texans. I'm just a fan and watch. Just like you.

Yeah, I feel they were going to let him ride out this year and walk away and he did one last thing to piss off NC or Lovie or embarrass the franchise and it was just time to cut bait. I doubt we ever hear the truth. He must be proud to see he is fired and he was doing such a great job his role is just absorbed into the existing staff

Cal chose making money over doing the right thing when it came to Derrick and he's paying for that decision today.

2nd paragraph is pretty much true.

Dont know, I've got the same feeling you do on this.

Yes, he was very good with smoke and mirrors
Surprising since he had to work with an incompetent RS as his GM, the lack of talent cause by RS incompetence and the dysfunction within the building down on Kirby. BOB did prove that there are worse GM's than RS though, to be fair.

I realize what it takes to rebuild a franchise and there are always growing pains. Yes I would rather be rebuilding than stuck in the perpetual mediocrity of the Kubiak/RS/BOB yrs.

What was Derrick doing at Clemson? I haven't heard anything about that. Enquiring minds want to know.
Man that clown boy is gone, so why are we still talking about him. Not too long ago a joker on here tried to check me for comparing his stats to Mills. And yet here we go again talking about the Clemson trash.

Yeah, I know. I honestly don't hate OB as the HC. It was time to move on, but still, I'd take the smoke and mirrors for entertainment over the boring product we are currently enduring.

Hopefully the optimism by many is stepping stones to greater things. At least the rookies look promising and that is a step in the right direction.

Yeah, I think most of us realize this is a small part of life and we are all just having fun here. Our mere opinions get elevated when written down, but we all know how truly meaningless this stuff is and just poke each other out of friendly fun.

Man, I feel ya', but I'm honestly believing that the perpetual mediocrity has one thing in common and that thing is still (and will always be) here.

I hadn't even thought about Easterby in a long time before this story. He was representative of a deeper issue within this organization. And that issue is the ones that hired him and gave him so much power to begin with.

If Cal can just remain patient and let Caserio do his job, I think things will workout well.

Yeah, but that's a pretty ******* big IF though. History speaks otherwise. If Caserio nails another draft or two, things might work out and maybe Cal will cut him some slack. Maybe. The problem is and always has been ownership, so it'll have to start with Cal letting Caserio do his thing. Assuming of course Caserio continues to do his thing. LOL

He’s been patient and as we all can see he’s been put on mute. My thing is just don’t give anybody all the power again Cal. Not even Nick.
Nick is over everything to do with the on field product. How much more power did Easterby have than that.

Is this the same GM that hired some dude named David Culley who was totally in over his head, then turned around fired him and totally botched a second hiring search and wanted to hire a guy that hasn’t even coached HS… then and out of sheer desperation hired someone that literally nobody else gave a second thought too? I’m not ready to give Nick a long leash until he can get a decent HC in here.

That time has passed since the moment Daniel Calhoun had to assume control of finding the next Head Coach because once again it had turned into another head coach search fiasco. Lovie only agreed to be the next head coach with the understanding that Nick and Jack worked for Lovie and Lovie would only answer to Daniel Calhoun. Daniel Calhoun agreed to Lovie's conditions. Cal is patient with the changes he had to make and so is Nick. Jack may have had a problem with it.

Neither of those were Caserio hires. The McNair's have always hired the HC from Capers to Lovie.

Culley was Cals lame attempt to pacify the pervert and Cal hired Lovie because of the Flores lawsuit. This has already been discussed many times.

Disagree.

Watson wanted to have a say in picking GM and HC. I don’t think he wanted Caserio. Rumor has it he wanted a person of color. He expected to be at the table deciding and who know who he really would’ve picked.

Also, Watson’s “alleged” sexual assault allegations still happened. The Texans wouldn’t have let him play a down with those allegations.

So we wouldn’t have Caserio or Watson in that scenario.
They didn't let him play because he wanted out. If he never wanted out, chances are either the process of settlement is expedited or he's playing. In terms of person of color, I don't believe that and it was a made up rumor, simple as that. Aside from the browns who came in with a fully guaranteed contract and the best roster, none of the other teams in the running had a person of color as gm or coach.

Can't really take any of these Houston sports yahoos serious as of late...they tend to function more like cackling hens sitting around at the campfire gossiping than talking about sports. The only guy i even listen to these days if i can catch him is ND Kalu b/c he tends to stay away from that crap. Supposedly connected beat guys on Houston sports...but national guys like Florio are breaking stories before these guys b/c they're too busy spinning their own narratives. MLB playoffs in full swing and The Astros should be dominating sports talk around here but It says more about them that they're talking more about an insignifcant figure in Easterby getting fired and trying to "expose" him than they are about their home baseball team going to their 6th straight ALCS....lame...we also know these guys have biases..
So when McClain says Esterbe wanted him to write a puff piece or anytime he wrotes about the Texans playing terrible, he printed up the tweets and took them to Cal, you don't believe that either huh. When Landry was laughing because after they fired the equipment mannager he tried to blame it on pant length, you don't believe that either huh?

How is it pacifying Watson by bringing in a guy who was probably the most unqualified candidate in the field? If he wanted to satisfy Watson with a coach of color, they could've just hired Bienemy correct? Whether we think its all andy or whatever, if you're trying to satisfy the quota, nobody would've questioned it. When you had Esterbe and his plan and Caserio telling candidates you have to keep Kelley, Lovie is in the hotel waiting and is already part of the staff, then you wind up with Culley. Once they fired Culley and the lawsuit from Flores came down, Lovie had them over a barrel. Plus Lovie is a man of principle and a stand up dude around the nfl.

Because EB covered up a rape by one of his players when he was a position coach at Colorado. Ain't no way the McNair's would ever hire EB and apparently the rest of the NFL agrees with the McNair's. Where there's smoke there's fire in this case.

Totally agree with you about Lovie and still like the hire. He's perfect for this part of the rebuild. He knows talent, particularly on the defensive side of the ball and he's conservative enough where I dont think they will when more than 6 game this yr or next yr in a season.

BTW, Caserio wanted Gannon as his hire from what I've heard.

Look at the Browns GM/QB room as a guide.
So the coach doesn't count? He went to Cleveland because they guaranteed the most money and they had the best roster. Look at the teams he was interested in or those that put their hat in the ring. How many had any people of color as gm,hc? None. You're overblowing the people of color angle. Berry in Cleveland along with the previous gm from KC and GB assembled a pretty good roster

Obviously Any Reid trust him as well as his time in Minnesota. I'm going to have to google that Colorado incident. It seems when a person is involved in something like that, its the red scarlett.

I agree about the most money. CnD reported this is what Derrick wanted before the season and look at the QB room as an example. I dont expect Stefanski to be there after this season and you wanna bet a contributors club membership that the next HC of the Browns will be a minority hire?
