When in doubt throw it to DeAndre Hopkins. Great leaping catch for a first.

Tyler Ervin with the draw. Wrangled up by Ashaad Mabry, nice play.

Brees fumbles the snap. First pass was complete to Snead in front of Kareem.

Joel Heath now working with the #Texans first defense.

Charles James dropped an INT but called for illegal contact

Texans center Greg Mancz back into drills after getting treatment
okay but did he shake it off? If Clowney shook off his swollen knee, did it slosh? Did he have to velcro it back on? These are important things I just have to know. Guys are going down and it's practice; just imagine what regular season will be like. The trainers need to stock up morphine ampules.

Sean Jones predicts Brock will be injured by the 3rd regular season game. Wow

His prediction was based off of the injuries to the offensive linemen. And I guess he doesn't believe our starting tackles will be ready for the start of the regular season .

Sean Jones has been predicting doom & gloom and bashing the Texans ever since he couldn't get hired

Clanked heads with a Saint during a drill without either wearing helmets.:toropalm:
Speaking of that... that reminds me of the worst sports injury I ever saw.. it involved a eye and I saw it happen right in front of me when I was just 12 years old, I was standing directly on the other side of a chain link fence. I still remember it quite vividly..

http://articles.latimes.com/1995-09-28/sports/sp-50906_1_don-mosebar

There was blood everywhere and I can still clearly remember him holding that white towel over his eye which was soaked in blood and him groaning (very loudly) as they carted him out of there. Cowboys fans and Raiders fans were completely silent..very somber rest of the day.

I just really started watching football at that time, but it was one of those injuries where you didn't have to be a long time viewer of the sport or a doctor to understand the severity of that injury.. everyone in attendance at that camp knew his career was over, they were just praying he wouldn't lose his sight.

You hear about eye injuries all the time, I'm surprised things like this don't happen more often.. but then again like the Kevin Ware injury.. basketball player's legs don't always explode by simply jumping either.. and thank god those type of injuries are rare.

Nick Martin suffered a high ankle sprain and could miss the opening game against the Bears.

Depends on what grade of sprain it is.. I've been here long enough to atleast pass health class.. thanks Doc.

High ankle sprains are no joke though.. My Cousin 6'5, built like a brick **** house just went through one and rehabbed it and was a couple of months out of recovery... he reaggravated it walking down our grandparents stairs during a recent family get together and now he's walking like he's back at ground zero..back in a boot

I called him a giant *****..make no mistake, he doesn't have any kind of pain tolorence.. he moved to Colorado when he was 4, turned into such a Yankee so who knows..

Seriously though.. we'll never know.. it could be the type of sprain that he'll be able to bounce back from or the type he'll just have to play through all season long until he gets long rest... who the hell knows.. they're not talking

I still don't like the recurring theme coming from that player though

My guess though is if they do hold him out until the bears. That's more damning to our reserve offensive lineman than his injury and they already know who they want to start and know there is no viable candidates behind him, so they no if he goes down, they are screwed.

Not trying to drive down the severity of the injury.. just saying if this was a playoff game Saturday instead of a preseason game.. I'm sure they would find someway to put him on the field..shoot him up whatever, but it's preseason and nobody could push the rookie and you're already thin along the line.. so why risk it.. just my thoughts.. I'm really worried about this offensive line.. scares crap out of me.

But sadly this is how you build depth sometimes.. with the starters out the reserves get great reps.. some respond and fill a role.. the others fall out of the league. Remember that badass Guard we had a while ago.. tough as nails, came out of nowhere..ended up signing a very nice contract with the Raiders.. what was his name? Brisiel? Loved that guy. Just a tough overachiever.. love those guys

Thank you, Grasshopper!:)

To give a very compact review of the high ankle sprain............Depending on the severity of the high ankle sprain, the player's return to play can be anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks for Grade I mild sprains and 6-12 weeks for Grade II moderate sprains............... if it is a completely ruptured Grade III or associated with a fracture which requires surgery, return to play will be closer to 4-6 months. When appropriately fully rehabbed, ~90% of players have been shown to be able to regain their preinjury level of performance. The problem is that high ankle sprains, especially within the same season carry a very high re-aggravation rate, even though apparently rehabbed ........but especially if not given the time to fully rehab as appropriate.

Brisiel suffered with a high ankle sprain throughout the 2011 season with the Texans. The next year, he was released and picked up by the Raiders. He continued to have problems throughout 2013 and ultimately underwent major surgery for damage due to his high ankle sprains. Unfortunately, he never regained his bulldog form of the old Texans days, and retired after the 2013 season.

Thanks brother. Good info. Let's hope it's the minor grade I sprain.

Obviosuly Martin is not off to a good start but atleast it's not one of our 2 remaining and still standing OTs where we are really thin with the uncertain return of starters D.Brown & Newton. Between the second year guy Manz and the veteran center/guard formerly with the Raiderws we picked up in FA the Center position has some depth.

That may be very well true, but unless things significantly change for the better with the OL's performance, he may have his first chance to be right about something.

I'm not a fan of Sean Jones. If he was that good of a scout, he'd still be one instead of being a mid-day radio guy.

Outside of losing JJ, this might be the worst loss we could have had.

One key to avoiding failure in our offense is protecting the A gaps. It's how Rex Ryan manages to give Tom Brady fits whenever he faced his D -- blow up the A gaps and lay the wood on Tommy.

Doc says 3-6 weeks if Grade I, 6-12 weeks if Grade II --- very high re-aggravation rate.

This is what Martin is potentially looking at.

Asked Bill O'Brien about @JJWatt (1/2): "He’s really on an upward trajectory. Everything is going in the right direction.'' ...

O'Brien: "I don’t think we can predict whether he’ll be ready for Week 1 or Week 2, but he’s going to be ready sooner rather than later.''
Ah yes, laying the groundwork for a week 3-4 start. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

Yeah, saw this too on NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-obrien-jj-watt-uncertain-for-first-two-games

I still have to wonder if they are rushing him back too soon. Statements like "but he’s going to be ready sooner rather than later" really bother me. I sure hope this doesn't mess him up in the future and he has to retire sooner than he wanted.

John McClain said Nick Martin's high ankle sprain is "very bad" and may require surgery.

So we're at least looking at a Grade II or worse. Bad news getting worse.

This is not good. Hopefully it'll be a case where he can be put on ir designated for return.
We'll have to get used to Mancz in the mean time.

Grade II are usually associated with only mild instability and seldom require surgery. However, Grade III or fractures accompanying Grade II are usually associated with significant instability and therefore indications for surgery.

Would an immediate surgery lead a quicker return to the field do you think than say just the typical lingering high-ankle sprain?
