Houston Texans 2025 Training Camp

I'd expect an easy walk-thru style practice today. Tomorrow they are in Michigan for what I expect will be a close to real game physical scrimmage with the Lions.

These are two of the toughest teams in the NFL and I expect nothing less than an all-out clash, practice or reg season. Should be a good test for both teams and probably the best marker for where the Texans are this preseason. Same goes for their fans as these are two quality teams going at it mano-e-mano.

I remember watching the Houston Oilers practices at their practice field on Fannin. The contrast of those practices and all the practices I've watched for the Texans is all I need to understand why today's NFL players are so unprepared in general to show well in real games.

Robinson's practice participation consisted of holding the foam player dummies while the defense hits it. I asked if he participated in any other significant exercises that were not videoed and I was told no.

The practice did not include even a single player charged with putting hands up in front of the QBs.

Demeco is excited about facing the Lions in practice. Not going to be the same as a regular season game. I'd be surprised if the practice includes the starter except in limited presentation.

And for the Lions' third preseason game, it is unlikely that the team's projected starters will play at all. Most of the projected starters, such as Jared Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Aidan Hutchinson, and Brian Branch have not played in the preseason so far and are not expected to play in the final game either. The Lions have chosen to focus on practices and joint practices for their starters rather than risking injuries in preseason games. This game will likely be reserved for the players competing for the last few roster spots.

I am sure that this part of the job can be nothing less gut-wrenching!

Yeah, Demeco is like a big brother/father so he really bonds. I suspect he gets by by knowing he is setting even his cuts up for their best chance in the league by developing them as players/men. Nick, I suspect he is more removed and can manage it as a transaction as he has to be ready to cut/hire/trade when opportunity arrives without emotional ties.

That is a trait that needs to be part of a GM in order to make smart decisions.

This contrast is why one person as a GM/HC rarely works. Hard for one person to invest so much time and emotional bandwidth in a player while also remaining impartial when the opportunity arises to improve the roster.

Texans S Jimmie Ward is sued for alleged meth-fueled assault
Published August 21, 2025 10:01 AM

Texans safety Jimmie Ward has a civil case to go along with his criminal one.

Ward, who has been arrested twice in recent months, faces a civil lawsuit alleging multiple instances of assault, according to Mo Haider of ABC13.com.

The plaintiff is the mother of Ward’s three-year-old child. She alleges that he showed up at her house at a time when she “suspected he was under the influence of methamphetamines, specifically, crystal meth.” He allegedly slapped and choked the plaintiff while their son was sleeping. He allegedly threatened to kill her, and he allegedly forced her to perform a sex act.

Ward was arrested in June for domestic violence. He was more recently arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his release.
The 34-year-old defensive back is currently on the Texans’ Physically Unable to Perform list.

Charges were dismissed, which is really surprising considering that's in Montgomery County.

The time has come to release Ward. These latest allegations are a bridge too far, even for Ward. And it's not his talent, it's that Meco really likes him. But if there is even a shred of truth to this...he needs a one-way ticket to Splittsville.
Charges were dismissed. Trust me if the charges were valid they wouldn't have been dismissed in Montgomery County. For all of you Austinites, Montgomery County is like Williamson County.

How can they refile charges in a county where the alleged assault didn't occur? Same question with the civil suit?

Apparently baby mamma is a Harris County resident. A lawsuit can be filed for venue in the county that one of the parties resides in.

Reviewing court records, Ward assaulted her in April of 2025 inside his Galleria-area town home (Harris County) and then again in June at West’s home in Montgomery County.

Texas venue rules generally allow a lawsuit to be filed in the county where a substantial part of the events occurred, the defendant resides (if an individual), the defendant's principal office is located (if not an individual), or where the plaintiff resided if none of the other options apply.

The court established Harris County venue based on that being the defendant's residence and that was where a substantial part of the events occurred.

The Lions have a competent offense and this is still a controlled environment. I remember it being reported last week that the Lions WRs were torching the Dolphins defense in their first joint practice.

I think he means all camp long. I've seen multiple "Sting was burned" by such and such receiver. Even Metchie was torching him. I'm not too worried at this point. A guy like him, he's probably not going full tilt, and he may be working more on certain techniques or what not. But it's something to watch once we get into the real deal in a couple of weeks. It's not like he's old and declining. I've heard zero about a nagging injury, or anything else that would impact performance. I think it's highly likely he'll be the same stud as last year.

Does he get his constitutional right to be proven guilty or do we just eat his $5 million dead cap?

What are you yammering about? One thing has nothing to do with the other.

He's aging and declining, has a lingering foot issue which lord knows when it would be healed, and has serious allegations pending, and you don't think that's worth cutting him? What's it going to take? Give it up. The guy sucks like a hoover at this point, is injured and is a loser with a drug and violence against woman issue. That's a total 100% loser in my book. Want nothing more to do with him. Anyone defending him needs shock therapy and a white coat with no sleeves. Send him to losersville and be done with it. This isn't a hard decision.

Agreed! I know Demeco holds him in high regard but Im over the Ward experience. Injuries then the escalating allegations and distractions are just adding up. Feels very unreliable at this point

Yammering? Here is your post that I quoted:

Nothing about his ability or skill. You did say "and it's not his talent... "
Your post was about the allegations against him. My reply was directly at those insinuations and your desire to avoid his constitutional rights.
If you want to discuss the criminal allegations, I would be happy. Not interested in responding again to your latest rant. Porky, you seem to be changing a little bit in the last few months. Hope everything is going well for you?

Jimmy Ward will more and likely be cut. The Texans and Coach are just waiting until all the facts are out before making that decision. They’re not like most of us and other franchises who turns their back on an employee who is clearly dealing with some major issues.

Yes yammering about nonsensical constitutional rights. This is a football team not a courtroom. What the hell does constitutional rights have to do with the price of eggs in China? If the Texans deem him not worth the trouble, they can cut him, and get rid of the morality deprived Ward. Hes not Texans worthy, and has major injury concerns, and age related issues. He should be cut.

Im very consistent on people like this. He is a drug addled loser who has allegedly gotten violent with a woman. If anyone wants to defend that, be my guest. I will not be joining you.
