Hard Knocks: Houston Texans 2015

One thing that a documentary or a show like this does well is reveal personalities. A person only needs so much exposure before viewers get them.

But things to be skeptical of are convenient narratives and over dramatized narratives. My BS detector buzzed when they contrasted the second practice against the Redskins with the first. That just seems too convenient for the show.

Bob swears like a sailor that was surprising to me & it seemed to resonate on down the staff. Not my idea of what Bob McNair represents but then change is needed. Welcome to the real world.
Watt is already in beast mode!
DeAndre is looking fantastic, really impressed with his total game.
Wilfork is funnier than hell at same time holds your respect, pure genius.
Arian Foster was looking so good man, I want to see more from the other backs. Without him/them I see a .500 team.
Overall great watch, worth DVR'ing. Thanks HBO Team for some real coverage :wesmantexanfan:

I'm sitting in Portland, OR a bit miffed. I missed the freaking eastern time zone live stream and now have to wait until 2pm tomorrow to catch the show. No live streaming for western time zone I guess. Bastards. :toropalm:

HBOw has it on in 35 min (midnight CDT), HBO2 starting in 55 min (12:30 CDT) - there is a gazillion HBO channels, it should be on pretty much non stop.

That was spectacular! Really enjoyed it.

As others have mentioned, the most spine chilling moment was BOB's quote about the lack of respect in the league for the Houston Texans. That right there is "getting it" but furthermore, it's getting it AND saying it like it is. I love his no-nonsense demeanor. He curses like a sailor, but he will make you want to run through a wall for him. IMO, there is nothing more important than that.

DeAndre Hopkins really looks like he might take the leap to top 10 WR this year. Really impressed by him and what he showed. Seems like he has worked on his speed and agility a bit, as he doesn't seem as stiff as he did his first two years. If we get decent play out of the QB(s), I see double digit touchdowns in his future.

Final notes: that was painful watching Arian cut early in the episode. The guy looked fresh and ready to tear up the NFL this year. Unfortunate. Time for Blue to step up. Thought it was hilarious what happened with Pierre Garcon and JJ Watt. Interesting to hear Cushing bash Garcon as a problem starter throughout the years. Would have loved to have seen JJ pick up the little twat and toss him across the field.

This show really got me pumped for the season.

And somewhere Andre "what's a double digit TD season" Johnson will weep.
Yeah, it's really strange how Andre was never able to break the barrier. Mostly, I think it was Kubiak's offense. He looked a lot more for the TE in the red zone and rarely was willing to just throw it up there for AJ to go get it. BOB seems more willing to do that. Not to mention, Hopkins is one of the best in the league at leaping to snatch the ball out of the air.

lol, I'm using my brother's HBO Go/xfinity on demand. I don't have cable myself, just use the internet.

I knew we had bats around here didn't know we had a bat colony under the Waugh bridge Learn something new everyday

Doesn't seem that O'Brien hates the cameras all that much. We knew that JJ loves them.

Who do I want to see more of? Kevin Johnson's sister. What a babe.

Okay...
I wasn't going to watch the show, but NOW they have my undivided attention.

Maybe it's just me, but I am not seeing the rest of the NFL giving the Texans ZERO respect because they went 24-56 in their expansion years. The last 8 years they have been .500 at 64-64. If they are not getting respect right now, it is because Kubiak put together decent teams that were soft. Looks like OB is trying to change that.

They could go 12-4 for the next three years with a Super Bowl appearance and one could factually argue that as a franchise they still have a losing record. It is such a useless statistic, and OB throwing it out there seems more made for the camera rah-rah-rah to get everyone worked up.

Man anyway I can watch this online? I don't have HBO.. smh
One of my favorite segments from last night. Wilfork playing basketball.
It's on the NFL's official YouTube channel which doesn't allow embeds.
I thought I could link it but it embeds a non-playable video. TexasTalk coding.

Just watch it on YouTube. On the NFL's official channel. Link is there "Watch On YouTube". The NFL misses the ball big time with its YouTube channel. The MLB and NBA, even the NHL, all allow their content to be embedded on other sites. Not the NFL.

I find it interesting that what some, like myself, find distracting and vulgar, others call intense. I see it as undisciplined and lacking self control. Others see it as emotional investment. You can be intense WITHOUT the swearing! I like OB's Mom's point of view.

To a lot of us that is just the normal way to talk and motivate people in an environment like that. But if we say the same things in our household to our parents, kids, whoever it may be, we're told it isn't right. Well that's just the way society seems to be today. We're almost taught to live two different lives.

Most of the successful people I know and have worked with swear. Some more than others. Professionalism and discipline come from being able to turn it on and off depending on who you're with. The CEO of a company I worked for would swear like a sailor to the people working for him, and then turn around and be utterly polite and without even a hint of cursing when he was around clients and/or vendors. If you were a vendor, one of the ways you could tell that you'd crossed from being an outsider to an insider was whether he'd let his guard down enough to tear you a new one. If he was being polite, he'd be more apt to ditch you and move on.

That's not a "today" thing. There are times and places for those things, and times and places to not talk that way. And it's been like that for centuries, if not eons.

Why does swearing motivate people? Let your yes be your yes and your no be your no. The "colorful metaphors" (Star Trek IV) are silly.

It's all about displaying good moral fiber to me and it shouldn't matter the surrounding you are in. We should all speak up that it isn't right to talk a certain way. I'm not an expert with all of that slang lingo out there today. I heard several kids using the N-word, F-word, B-word, all sorts of stuff I didn't consider right in the classroom, but I still let it slide as a substitute teacher in 10th grade biology. Looking back I made a mistake not to correct those kids.

I just wanted to get through the day without any stress. It must be nice for Bill O'Brien to work a job where it's okay to talk like he does. He can go home and be with his family and not have to worry about what he said because they're all grown men being paid millions of dollars.

I wonder if Bill O'Brien coached differently at Penn State? At least with his choice of verbiage?

It's hard to motivate the young minds today when you aren't a cool person or speaking their kind of language. And to them a cool person is somebody who is listening to music on their Ipod, tweeting, posting on Facebook or texting on their smartphones every other minute.

For anyone that is looking for it on kodi go to prime wire search hard knocks. Enjoy.

That out of the way...I see exactly what happened with the skins. Skins got their asses kicked day 1, their coaches probably got on their ass...reminded them they were on TV. Second day we come out...since it's half she'll probably think the physicality is going to tone down some. Instead Redskins come out ready to make a point in half pads. Third day it was on.

Other than that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. That was a fun hour. I really got a great idea of how hard JJ works. My respect level for him just went up even more. I'm liking Kevin Johnson.

I like how OB deals with his team.

I like RAC, vrabel....

I don't like whoever that was at olb that kept getting their **** pushed in. Ben jones is country as hell. I like Kareem. Cushing is funny. I liked seeing grimes get some praise from OB for scrubbing that Redskins defender.

I enjoyed it. Now that intros are out of the way I'm ready to see some more in depth stuff and how they are on the sideline during a game.

Maybe don't watch anymore if you have a serious issue with the language. Perhaps pulling back the curtains of football (or maybe any other major sport) just ain't for ya. It's ok. It ain't for everyone.
If I gave up watching everything filled with inefficiency and stupidity, there wouldn't be much left.

Maybe read a book. Or take a walk. You don't HAVE to watch tv. Take up a craft.
I'm online and on this board often enough between my walks, two choirs and a quartet. But I do like to take breaks and watch TV. But I do find the silliness more amusing than offensive.

I laughed a lot and that was good at least. Watt and Cushing talking **** about Garcon was great. Lots of other great lines.

I *loved* seeing that PUNK DeAngelo Hall get schooled by Hopkins.

I similarly *hated* seeing Bob McNair and Rick Smith talking to that THUG Terry McAuliffe. That was revolting.

It appears Bill O'Brien is better at this sort of thing than he is in-game and during a season, because he's got it down here as a motivator and whatnot but he was atrocious otherwise. Really hope he improves too since he needs it badly. The team went 9-7 in spite of him last year, of course for reasons we've all been over ad nauseum by now.

He did make me laugh though with his quip about not giving a **** about Georgia or LSU or any college. Not surprisingly, I appreciate his use of profanity. Wonder if people will take him for being unintelligent and inarticulate too. Likely not.

It's fun I suppose. Never watched the other ones but I'll keep watching only because it's the Texans.

Well then that's good. You are getting enjoyment out of it. That's what counts.

Care to elaborate on the "atrocious otherwise"? I personally think he did a great job of bringing a rag tag team together and winning 9 games with Larry, Curly, and Moe at QB. Is there room for improvement? As HK showed and told us, always.

O'Brien seems to like talking to Ben Jones. Ben Jones talking about puking on the football. "I had the stomach virus." OB - "what did the QB say".. Jones - "nothin'. He was a freshman".

Did you watch Pirates of the Carribean? That scene where they were in the prison & the prisoners started sharing stories about the Black Pearl & it's damned crew... how they left no survivors, then Jack asks, "Then where do all the stories come from?"

That's what I thought when OB asked what did the QB say... pretty much calling Ben out on that story.

Overall, I liked the show. Thought it was better than I imagined it could be. Very well done. I may add it to my regular shows to watch, even in the future when they do other teams.

& yeah, RAC's little talk impressed me. Talking about being a champion & who that ultimately falls on & all that, it was great. I'm sure all coaches go through something like that, but to have it come from Crennel, someone who's been there, done that... awesome. & though I'm going through a bit of Jj fatigue, I liked his response.

I appreciate his use of profanity as well. In every situation, the point was to come off as offensive. It's not about lacking intelligence, or the right words. It's the right words for the job. If people don't get that, then they won't get that.

Not everyone views language the same, you think non religious people view swearing as bad ? No..... to every man their own.

Personally i think people get offended way to easily now days. What if i am offended when people don't use that language....

Definitely not. It's a HBO special. They're the only ones that air it.

Stupid me... I thought that I would be able to watch the NFL thingie on the NFL thingie....

Online I go... I'm sure I can find it somewhere.

Thanks :)

That's doubtful since a lot of coaches in middle school curse on the field.

I thought it was a foregone conclusion that colorful language was used in sports and oil & gas. Since I am very interested in sports and have some background in oil and gas, I didn't raise an eyebrow.

BTW, I thought it was a good show with an good inside look at what happens in practice. I didn't move the entire hour.

I don't see anything wrong or immoral with talking that way.

My sons college soccer team cussed a bunch when we went and watched . My wife didn't get why they had to use that language and I told her it's basically a primal in the moment type thing because the stakes are up . She also didn't understand why we wanted to jump off a bridge into the Guadalupe River , I didn't try to explain .

And the military. I swear I don't hear something unless there's an F bomb in there. That tends to emphasize things to me hahaha.
