Hard Knocks: Houston Texans 2015

Jesus fuckin' Christ. Why is the language thing such a big fuckin' deal to people? You don't want to cuss? Don't cuss! But accept that it's an everyday occurrence, especially in sports, and it's not going anywhere. And in this particular case it has zero effect on you, none.
NOW I'm offended.

I'm not unfamiliar with the culture. It just seems silly to me and totally unnecessary. I've been around sports for 50 years and have a son in the Army and Daughter in law who's former military. Yes, I've heard it. I just find it a ridiculous waste of breath which adds NOTHING but an element of questionable self control.

It adds emphasis to a statement while at the same time bringing a sort of familiarity between the speaker and listener. There can be an express purpose.

Why specifically are these words bothersome to you?

Frankly I'd rather spend 20 more pages discussing "JJ Fatigue" than experiencing another 2-3 wasted pages of people trying to explain the blindingly obvious to Marshall and going deeper into why the guy with the Bible quote in his signature is offended by profanity (also blindingly obvious).

I got an idea! Why don't we talk about BBQ places?

Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the English language today is the word FK. Out of all the English words that begin with the letter 'f', @#&! is the only word referred to as 'THE F WORD'. It's the one magical word. Just by its sound one can describe pain, pleasure, hate and love. @#&!, as most words in the English language, is derived from German ...the word frichen, which means to strike.
In English, @#&! falls into many grammatical categories:

As a transitive verb for instance ...John @#&!ed Shirley.
As an intransitive verb...Shirley @#&!s.

Its meaning is not always sexual, it can be used as:

An adjective such as ...John's doing all the @#&!ing work.
As part of an adverb ...Shirley talks too @#&!ing much.
As an adverb enhancing an adjective ...Shirley is @#&!ing beautiful.
As a noun ...I don't give a @#&!.
As part of a word ...abso@#&!inglutely -or- in@#&!ingcredible.
And as almost every word in a sentence ...@#&! the @#&!ing @#&!ers.

As you must realize, there aren't too many words with the versatility of @#&!...such as these examples describing situations such as:

Fraud ...I got @#&!ed at the used car lot.
Dismay ...ahhh @#&! it.
Trouble ...I guess I'm really @#&!ed now.
Aggression...Don't @#&! with me buddy.
Difficulty ...I don't understand this @#&!ing question.
Inquiry ...Who the @#&! was that?
Dissatisfaction ...I don't like what the @#&! is going on here.
Incompetence...He's a @#&!-off.
Dismissal ...Why don't you go outside and play hide and go @#&! yourself...

I'm sure you can think of many more examples.
With all these multi-purpose applications, how can anyone be offended when you use the word? We say use this unique, flexible word more often in your daily speech.
It will identify the quality of your character immediately.
Say it loudly and proudly...
...@#&! YOU!

And most importantly, it can be used to easily root out and identify @#&!head d-bags that are offended by mere language.

"Let's be honest with each other," Texans coach Bill O'Brien says to his coaches on the eve of training camp. "This place has no respect in the league, just so you guys are all aware of that. This organization is 96-126. Thirty games below .500. Turn your TV on. Nobody talks about the Houston Texans because nobody thinks we're gonna win. And the disrespect that they show our quarterbacks? I'm tired of that, too. Because both those kids can play. They just need a chance and one of them is going to get it. Enough is enough. Every player that is out there -- all 90 players -- are players that I want for the 2015 season. When you f------ guys show up to practice tomorrow, they better be ready to f------ go."

Bill Belichick was so high on Ryan Mallett that he traded Mallett away for a conditional 7th round pick, the least possible amount of compensation.

Texans are so high on Ryan Mallett that they ran Alfred Blue 52 times in Mallett's 2 starts last year & gave Brian Hoyer a better contract.

#Texans fans have convinced themselves Mallett is good.

Ryan Fitzpatrick is a better quarterback than anyone currently on the #Bills or #Texans rosters, probably by a significant margin.

Typical national coverage of our team by some media.

O'Brien post practice today: "In order to gain respect in this league, we have to win."

Playoffs is right about that. It's the only solution to situation the Texans find themselves in. Just shut up and win. Until you do that nothing you say or do matters.

Let's. I went to this BBQ joint and I bought a brisket sammich that looks like Judas. I traded it for an autographed picture of Joel Osteen & Benny Hinn mudd wrestling.

Ok, I may be a Debbie Downer, but didn't OB do this to himself by bringing in Hoyer after Hoyer failed before? And picking a quarterback in the 4th? Starting Fitz?

Damn this qb situation.

Bishop Jake is not amused but at the same time he wants to know where this place is because BBQ sounds pretty damn good right now.

I'll tell you what's ******* pathetic around here. I know I have to have ******* rocks in my ******* head for tuning in to that ******* pathetic piece of **** radio station 610, to hear their takes on the show, and all they are ******* talking about is how many ******* times the ******* f-bomb was dropped.

It's almost as if not a single ******* soul in this entire ******* city has ever watched a single ******* episode of Hard Knocks before. It's just downright un*******believable!

NOW I'm offended.
I truly have never understood the usage of the name of Jesus Christ as a curse word. I have pretty thick skin, curse myself, and don't allow a lot of things to bother me (other than my temper tantrums over sports), but using Christ's name as a curse word is one of the few things that makes me want to punch somebody in the face. It's extremely offensive, serves no purpose, and it's the only person's name on the face of the planet that is used as a curse word. As a believer, it's simple to me why that is: His message is the Truth, and deep inside whether they know it or not people hate the Truth.

It is now 8:53 in Houston. Hard Knocks starts in ten minutes.
Thanks Marshall, I'd already fallen asleep by then. Managed to watch it this morning though.

Having spent years hoping the Texans would avoid being on this show for competitive reasons, I really enjoyed the insight into the season's prep, and seeing some of the characters of the players up front. Don't think I'd ever seen Duane Brown out of uniform for instance.

Kevin Johnson really impressed me, very humble and laid back, can't help thinking he's going to be a great player in a few years time with that attitude.

I'm hoping to see a lot more of Cushing over future shows. One of the top 5 Texans in history imo and I'm really rooting for it all to come together for him this year.

The coaching staff has great personality and you can see the players buying into the enthusiasm.

I love the fact that Clowney is always right there on the shoulder of a coach, hopefully he's been soaking up plenty to work into his game over the past few months.

Am I the only one impressed with JJ and the 1000 pound tire flipping part. His numbers have gone up on the flips, I wonder how that translates to the field. The score is most important of course but I also would like to see him get the sack record for a season.

Care to elaborate on the "atrocious otherwise"? I personally think he did a great job of bringing a rag tag team together and winning 9 games with Larry, Curly, and Moe at QB. Is there room for improvement? As HK showed and told us, always.

I've talked about it time and time and time again but here's some Cliff's Notes:

I think he was a disaster on the field. He exhibited the same problems as Kubiak did. Horrendous in-game management and absurd playcalling. For an offensive/TE "guru" he barely used the TEs to alleviate the fact that his QBs were awful. For being a "prepper" and a stickler for discipline, his players had lapse after lapse after lapse which cost us games against Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Cincinnati. His refusal to pull Ryan Mallett in the Cincinnati game which was, to that point, the biggest game of the year was incredibly costly and dare I say cost the team its season. The team was never as bad as 2-14 in 2013 would indicate, and a bounceback to 9 wins was wholly expected, by me anyway. This team should have won 11, 12 games last year.

Always room to improve and I hope he does, but color me unimpressed thus far. He's done nothing to differentiate himself from other coaches in the league.

But eh, this is the Hard Knocks thread. These points have been made all over the place for months on end now.

As for JJ Watt Fatigue, yeah, I'd rather hear more about Tom Brady and footballs and wife abusers and child abusers and contract negotiations for primadonna whiner wide receivers and morons who fight in locker rooms over money. Sick of hearing about Watt.

I don't know man. Maybe I'm being too much of a homer, but it seems like it would take more than one offseason to change the "woe is me" attitude that infected this team during Kubiak's tenure. Those guys were poisoned and were the weakest bunch of football players I have ever seen. The frequent collapses to close out the season, the way they would seem to just give up and shrug their shoulders, those are hard mentalities to break. From everything BOB has shown if there is anyone that can break the team of these bad habits, it's BOB. Here's to hoping anyway.

OB was really trying to stress that the QBs weren't complete ****. I don't think the HBO guys bought it.

As far as cussing goes, it was obvious that the defense respects Crennel and Vrabel a hell of a lot.

I love how Brian Hoyer was like "I thought I'd play like **** because I look like ****" with the jersey fiasco.

Like no dude, you'll play like **** because you are.

Regarding the qbs, I think at worst they're both decent.

I think people sometimes use horrible or bad too loosely. Me included.

It's a strange one isn't it. You'd think OB is the best person not currently coaching the Pats to scheme his offense to get the most out of whichever of these guys wins though. I'm not sure I remember a truly open QB comp for the Texans, but I'm very surprised it's gone on this long. You'd think the date has to be very close that one of these two guys starts going with the 1's every day though. Maybe first thing Monday morning following the first pre-season game?

While watching I had forgotten it was an HBO show and that profanity is uncensored so when I heard the first one dropped, I was pleasantly surprised and I laughed.

I find it interesting that what some, like myself, find distracting and vulgar, others call intense. I see it as undisciplined and lacking self control. Others see it as emotional investment. You can be intense WITHOUT the swearing! I like OB's Mom's point of view.

They are just words. They only have power or offend if you let them.

Personally, I love cussing. I think it's great and refreshing.

Also glad to see a like minded individual use curse words openly. He works around 100+ full grown men. It's like being at the deer lease.

Let the F-bombs drop as far as I'm concerned.

Different places use their own holy figure for such phrases, not exclusive to Jesus, just the English-speaking world.

The whole thing about taking the Lord's name in vain doesn't even mean curse words, it means using God's name in actual curses. If you want to invoke God through sorcery to give Andrew Luck ass cancer, that is taking the Lord's name in vain. "Goddamn that Andrew Luck!" is not.
