Gameday Thread: 49ers at Texans 10-25

Slaton is doing everthing he is supposed to covering up the ball just needs to be stronger than the guys pulling on his arms as he goes down

Gotta get that fixed bro!

I am starting to agree with you guys. Man, he can be electric with the ball but he is f$%&ing looking like Jacoby Jones out there. Only, he is looking worse than Jacoby Jones when it comes to holding onto the football!

if kubes doesnt have the stones to bench this guy....he obviously owns pics of kubes in a compromising position or something:gun:

He needs to freaking know when he's done, when the yards are no longer there, and just get knees down onto the field.

He's fighting so hard, and people are gang-tackling and getting those strips at the very end of the play: Sometimes even when forward progress is stopped and the ref SHOULD be blowing the whistle, but oh well.

The fact is that he needs to stop straining and just go down to end the play.

If we lose this game, I am going to put in my signature

"Texans, snatching defeat out of the jaws of victory since 2002"

anyway... COME ON TEXANS!
:texflag: :D:

Good point.

No he's not. He's just gonna get Benched. You don't cut a player, of
Slaton's caliber, in only his SECOND SEASON. Sounds much like the
'Cut Jacoby' bullshit from last season.

People are STILL slamming Jacoby, too. Some people put a foot down on a guy's throat and they DESIRE to see their prediction come through.

This team is better with Steve Slaton in the game.

This team is better with Jacoby Jones in the game.

To Steve's defense: He got a helmet-on-helmet crack on that last play. He might have been a little loopy.

Right -- in the open field, they just want to tackle you in most cases -- but when they are gang tackling and have you wrapped up, the next thing they will ALWAYS try to do (if they are well-coached) is to start pulling and punching at the ball.

Well said. You are totally correct. Sometimes the best play is not trying to make the play.

That's probably why he was on the ground. And did get a little cracked up.

Can't believe people don't want Slaton on the team anymore though. That's just stupid.

thats why hes a playmaker...because he makes plays and breaks tackles....he just has to find the balance

This. exactly this..........must spread rep

Last year, especially vs. the 2nd Titans game, we had our offensive line practically dragging and pulling Slaton for extra yards.

That started the trend of trying to continue the play for a few more inches that might end up getting a few more yards and maybe a first down instead of having to punt.

We might need to just reverse that ideology and be happy with retaining possession of the ball.

I don't agree with Slaton fumbling the ball, but why would you wanna take his aggressiveness of pounding for more yards. This is football...

I'm not digging on our defensive philosophy this half, either.

There's a lot of empty real estate in the middle of the field. Can't believe the 9ers haven't recognized it and started throwing slants in there to Crabtree or Davis.

Anyways, this half has sucked BIG TIME.

I don't want 21 more points on the board. But sustained offensive drives are needed.

Otherwise, we're just good only when we play a team that sucks and can't do better than us.

We're still pretenders, IMO. Big time.

This is a team that always plays "not to lose" when it has a second half lead. That includes playing soft on defense.

I don't see the Texans playing "soft" on defense. It's more of the Alex
Smith not sucking as much as Shaun Smith, plus Slaton putting the ball
on the ground.

There have been some huge momentum shift plays blown dead or called back for holding this game against the Texans

Damn. We can still win this game. We really need to be 5-3 when going to Indy, not frigging 4-4. The defense needs to come up with a big play here real damn quick.
