Game 5...Extreme test...Minnesota Vikings!

I'm thinking something along the lines of a 34 - 13, Vikings in a pretty dominant fashion. There is nothing that Brock has done to give me the impression that he can be a decent quarterback, and I think he will still have problems with the interceptions. The Vikings defense is pretty scary, with that 10 + turnover ratio. Then again, they have Sam Bradford... Bradford gets injured every time he stubs his toe. See that kind of gives me a bit of hope the Texans have a chance, hell I dont know.

If they do lose, I expect there to be some heavy criticism on OB, both publicly and nationally.
However Sports Radio 610 (AKA* Kool-Aid Radio)will try to play it off as some kind of wake-up call or something like that. I am praying to God, that I am wrong. I would love nothing more for them to go up there and beat the living snot out of the Viqueens:littlelol: .....

I initially picked the Texans to win 19-16 but I'm starting to feel more confident the closer the game approaches. Brock Osweiler will let it all loose in this game and light up the great Vikings defense to the tune of 350 yards passing and 4 TDs (0 INTs). Duane Brown will dominate at left tackle in his first game back from injury this season and pancake some people, and the Texans win 34-24.

Monday night, the Vikings looked susceptible to the big play. However, as others have said, if they follow the New England approach, they'll play us with more two deep safeties.

Lamar Miller & the OL are going to have to win against a 6 or 7 man front.

My hope is the Texans can do what they did last year.
Remember the Cincinnati game after the break? Everyone was predicting a blow out. The Texans would lose big on a Monday night game against the undefeated Bengals in their house.
Every Texan went into that game with heart. Hoyer got hurt and Yates went in. That pass to DHop and the incredible grab he made for that touchdown will forever be burned into our memories.
The Texans are the big time underdog in this game, and again, every single pundint is saying the Texans will lose this one.
Huge underdogs yet again.
How will it turn out?
Will the Texans lay down and lose, or will they pull together, rise up and beat an undefeated team in their house yet again.
We shall see on Sunday.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

I gotta see it before I can believe it. I was psyched knowing JJ was coming back week 1 and feel duped, as my brain should have had lower expectations, having had a discectomy myself in July. How could I not question how it is possible for JJ to play NFL level intensity coming off a shorter recovery period, even though it was a lesser disc injury. With DB, realizing it's apples and oranges, I still find myself feeling once bitten, twice shy, especially when it comes to what has become apparent to be a coaching and medical staff that shows a tendency to put someone back out on the field, despite the cloud of better judgment looming above them. I hope Duane can play well enough to warrant being out there, putting his backup on the sideline, but have my reservations as to if he's going to come in game 1 and play at a Pro Bowl level.

Just watched the Vikings/giants game.

The Texans look just like these Vikings.

Vikes have a solid D and man that stadium sounds loud.

#98 is a football player.

Bradford looks calm and comfortable, need to change that on Sunday.

Charles Johnson and Rudolf are going to be problems if Bradford has time.

Fuller is better than Odell.

Stefon Diggs is out. Rudolph has a rib injury and is limited. I said that that is the majority of their offense and those two guys being out really will be beneficial.

With all the injuries the Vikes have, Texans SHOULD win this game. Still hard for me to pick them.

I wouldn't say SHOULD win.........but the Vikings injuries SHOULD give the Texans their best chance for winning. Yes, the Vikings have managed to encounter major injuries that have left them with less significant standing pieces along with some still walking wounded. The Texans, on the other hand, will have a significant number of their own players on the field that have been indoctrinated to believe that they are really not significantly injured.

All those injuries for the Vikings and still a 5 1/2 point favorite. Vegas is putting a lot of stock in the Vikings defense. Not saying that is the wrong thing, but I just feel 5 1/2 is a bit much considering the Vikings offense isn't high powered.

Losing J.J. Watt, a three-time defensive player of the year still in his prime (the most dominant defensive force in the history of the game when healthy), I would argue, is even more of a loss than the Vikings losing an aging Adrian Peterson and a young and inconsistent Teddy Bridgewater combined.

On top of that we've been without our All-Pro left tackle Duane Brown. Thankfully he'll be returning tomorrow for his first game of 2016 from what I understand. Let's face it, we've been without two of our better players on both sides of the ball. Guys who win All-Pro awards. Those type of special players are very hard to replace.

It's actually easier to replace an All-Pro wide receiver like Andre Johnson or an All-Pro running back like Adrian Peterson. Especially now that he's aging and likely only has a few good years left in him. You can find very good skill position players a lot easier than a franchise left tackle or a game-changing defensive player that can command two or three offensive blockers on any given play.

But that being said, I still like our chances to win a tough road game tomorrow against an undefeated Vikings team. Even though we haven't shown much, if anything, on the road against good teams lately. We were just trashed and embarrassed, 27-0, in our last road game against the Patriots.

It's all about our offense playing well. I'm tired about hearing how great the Vikings defense is. You know what, the Texans offense is loaded with young talent at the skill positions and our offensive line is about to get a whole lot better. It's time for Brock Osweiler to step up and become a man on the field tomorrow. He's no longer a young kid anymore. He's had the opportunity to sit and learn for a lot of years now behind an all-time legend like Peyton Manning.

I don't want to hear any crap about "he's learning, give him more time." The time for that is over! Brock has to play well and lead this team to some big victories on the road. This is why he was paid the big money this past off-season. If we wanted to keep losing games like tomorrow, if we end up losing another road game against a good team, we could have simply kept Brian Hoyer or Ryan Fitzpatrick and had gotten the same losing results. Heck, we could have kept Matt Schaub! Even Case Keenum could have given us the same things.

Good morning Texans fans.
The game is tomorrow and I can't wait for it to get going.
Some things. The Texans need to sustain long drives that consume the clock.
Brock needs to throw those quick, short check down passes underneath and Lamar needs to be used around the edge where he can use his speed in space instead of trying to run between the tackles.
This will force the Vikings up and out and open up the middle of the field and the deep pass where Fuller and Hop can be dangerous. Just don't force the ball. Be patient and allow them to get open.
Ball control and quick pace. Like they started against the Titans. Use the no huddle or sugar huddle. Don't give the Vikings time to substitute on defense. And do it the whole game. Not just the first couple of series.
Keep the defense rested. They will be needed later in the game to stop any hopes of the Vikings being able to come back should the Texans get up on the score.
We all know Ervin needs to down the ball in the end zone on kick offs if it goes into the end zone. Do not risk the fumble and get the ball out to the 25.
The Texans need to win field position, turn over and time of possession battles.
I'm actually believing the Texans can do it.
Let's get this win!

BROCK AND ROLL TEXANS!!!!

Texans play at their best when everyone counts them out. We are getting players back off injury (Brown, Braxton Miller) and the Vikings keep getting more banged up. Now they've lost their #1 WR, RT and reserve TEs.

Add that the Vikings are coming off a short week and this is a perfect let down spot for a team that has outplayed their expectations through the first 4 games this season.

Texans roll to 4-1 and I enjoy discounted Firehouse on Monday!

Hold up now...

like you, I like our chances against Minnesota, in Minnesota. BUT that's all it is, a chance. We're not going undefeated the rest of the season.

We've still got the Colts twice, Broncos, & Bengals on the schedule to prove how long our schlong is.

Not saying we can pick & chose where we are going to win or lose, but losing here is not a "might as well kept Hoyer" situation.

The difference between Brock & Hoyer is that Brock may very well turn out to be a better QB at the end of the year. Hoyer is who he is. Hoyer beat last year's JagUars down the stretch to get us in the playoffs. If that had been the Chiefs, Patriots, or Steelers he'd have lost that game for sure.

Did someone spike my kool aid this week? Why do I feel completely confident that the Texans are winning this game and most others think we lose?!

Whoa, what Firehouse discount!? I hadn't heard about that. I get my Hook and Ladder sub for less if they win??

Wear a Texans logo the day after a Texans win and order chips/drink. You can choose any sandwich for combos 1-4 for free. So basically you get a combo for like $3.45!

And if the Texans score two touchdowns, you can get a free MoNsTeR Taco from Jack in the Box. Just walk in and say "Texans Touchdowns For Tacos". Oh Boy. But I have to admit: I do like a Jack in the Box Taco.

After evaluating every thing about both teams going into this game and looking at the injury reports, I'm starting to believe the Texans can be on the winning side of this affair in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
I have to flip my prediction.

Texans 20
Vikings 17

LLLLLLLLET"S GET READY TO RRRRRUMBLLLLLLLLLLE!!!

If I'm not mistaken, the Vikings played the last two games with just 4 starters from last year:

C Berger, G Fusco, WR Diggs, and TE Rudolph.

Last year, Berger became the starter only due to injury to Sullivan, who retired this year.

The Vikings still ranked 16th in scoring through 4 games.

They actually scored more points the last two games: 46 vs 42.

Comes Sunday, they will be without Diggs, and Rudolph is still ailing (he's been playing hurt, too.)

And it wasn't like the other two starters that played in the first two games were any good.

http://vikingswire.usatoday.com/2016/09/19/theres-a-real-concern-with-minnesotas-offensive-line/

AP had two miserable games, while LT Matt Kalil has generally been a disappointment.

Not to mention Fusco was moved from one guard spot to another.
Those Vikings offensive line problems could spell a great advantage for the Texans defensive front. This is a front like the Vikings have yet to face this season.
Mix up the blitz packages, stunt, over power and give Bradford all kinds of trouble. If he starts getting hit and sacked, he starts rushing and makes allot of mistakes.
The Texans defense could come away from this game on the winning side of the turn over battle as a result.
It spells W I N for the Texans.

Houston football fans need a "pick me up" with an upset road win against the undefeated Vikings tomorrow. Especially after the Houston Cougars just lost at Navy. They were a 14.5-point favorite. What happened?! Goodbye #6 ranking in the country. If the Texans win tomorrow everything will be good again.

I've been enjoying the free 6 nuggets at McDonald's when you make any purchase the day after the Texans game. You get it if the Texans have 100 yards rushing or more. Which they've been doing every game so far.

Also the free Monster Taco at Taco Bell when the Texans score at least Two Touchdowns. That's been available half the time so far. We didn't score two Touchdowns aganst the Patriots (shutout) and Chiefs (only 1 TD). Also the half off Papa John's pizza when the Texans win. That's a good one.

So as i said earlier upthread and got attacked for: oz gets hit a couple of times and his accuracy drops drastically. Dont kill the messanger - just watch the damn game.

went back to page 12, didn't see where you were attacked. I also believe we've come to accept Osweiler's accuracy sux when he's under pressure.

See page 1 & 2. Dont mind me, im just making particularly bad posts to push an agenda while citing 4 month old articles that can't possibly still be relevant...

Right.

Reminds me of last year. I was the first to say (though likely not the first to see it) that mallet had zero touch. People here damn near crucified me. 2 dozen dropped passes and a few games later, people widely accepted it.

don't sprain your shoulder... :D

Lol. The blowback was fierce man. Ought to jump start that thread to watch the cock-roaches scatter.

I guess no one wants to hear their shiny new toy is trash but ob keeps shopping at the dollar store.

The Vikings Defense is why the team is 4-0, not that offense.

And having said that and watching the Texans forever, the Vikings offense will drop 450+ yds and 4 TDs on the Texans D Sunday! ugh...

I wasn't far off.

Our "offensive minded" coaches are pretty offensive. I don't give a crap how good a defense is, a coach should be able to find a way to move the ball! I present Atlanta v. Broncos as an example.
The offense is stale and very predictable. When is the last time anyone saw any misdirection, a trap block, a screen to a RB that worked? It's sad watching other teams complete WIDE OPEN passes to WRs, or sitting there saying out loud, "what a great play" when watching other teams.
O'Brien and company may be in over their heads.

If you were the first one, good on you.

All I know is that I had brought up Madden and how he liked his QB to throw real hard, even on a short 5-yd hook route.

In contrast, I prefer Bill Walsh's approach of touch and a catchable pass.

I'll take Montana and Young any day.

If someone said it before hand i didn't see it or the riot that followed.

Young is probably my all time favorite. Not the best but maybe the most entertaining imo.

Not related to this post, but after my complaint of how poor Osweiler play fake was (up to the Pats game), he did really well on the one drive that led to a TD against the Titans on two consecutive play fakes.

So, I have to give him that.

I may need a calibration on what "crucified" or "torched" means. Mallett did not have a bunch of supporters, I was one & always felt in the minority. However, I never argued his lack of touch.

Same thing with Osweiler, I've not argued his poor production in the face of danger, nor have I argued his reaction to phantom pressure.

Still, I think it's too early to give up on him & I've never considered myself a "Brock fan" I only acknowledge that O'b wants him here & thinks he can make something out of him. I'm still in the wait & see.

Please do not feel crucified, torched, or even called out about Brock Osweiler in relation to this post. It's just a discussion.

After 5 games, Osweiler appears to have no "feel" for pressure. It's one of the few things the "greats" all seemed to have in common.

Last game, he threw the worst pass I've seen out of him yet...when he bounced one to a wide open TE the first attempt he actually had w/o pressure in his face.

It's not that he or the Offense aren't salvageable, I just don't know if our coaching (and makeshift O-Line) is up to the task of actually going away from what's not working.

Wait a second TK. In one thread you're saying that the Texans offense performed as expected against a top defense. And in here you said the Vikings defense is overrated and their offense was not good.

How could you have those expectations heading into the game (basically declaring the Texans were going to expose them) and be ok with how they performed, specifically the offense?

I'm not "ok" with how they performed. Offensively they performed as well as I thought they would. They suk. But I knew they sucked before the game.

Their offense totally shocked me. I didn't think they would have the time for those deep routes to develop... but they did. Our defense performed worse than I thought they would, across the board.

Overrated may be too strong for what I was saying (even though I may have used the word myself). My main point there was that it had only been four games & too early to put them in the group they were being mentioned in. Still, after watching them play, they've got a good corps of LBs. Other than that I think they've taken advantage of some poor offensive lines, poor QB play, & the ability to get into OBJ's head.

Their good..... not "all-time" good. Brock was playing against 16 guys Sunday, not 11.

Begin at post #47. See contributions from disaacks3 and nitrofish. Both would likely still argue Mallet has touch.

Might try reading the quotes first.

So, two games where he wasn't injured and you chose the one where he had 6 whole minutes in the game left to do something with?

Hmm slinging the rock while down 17 in the last 6 minutes of a game? Yeah, that's just the time for those touch passes.

Yep, you're friggin' Carnac alright. :spit:
