Flanagan signed

What has Flannigan done since 2002 that makes him a better pick up than Allen?

Let me ask you this, is there any offensive lineman on the roster that you think is better than Flanagan?

...and Flannigan is?

You've convinced me. Now we need to pick up Nate Newton too. A perennial pro-bowler!

Well, maybe not. I just realized we might not need a bunch of power blockers in our zone blocking sceme.

I guess I'm still unconvinced.

"IMO this is our best acquisition as a franchise.

now if we could somehow land javon walker, even for 1 season, we could be in contention in the division."

I've been saying the same thing about Javon. He's comming off knee surgery, still has 1 year on his contract, but he wants out of greenbay. And he has numbers simialar too Andre and better than Burleson.

And as far as Flannigan:yahoo:

Squirrel Please.......Hells no.

But to me, there is no substitute for getting someone who has been the premier player at his position, the experience he could share with the young ones, thats what made the old O-Line from the Oilers great. Maybe Flannigan can do the same thing but in the prime of his game, he was no Larry Allen.

Has anyone seen the story on the Texans homepage about the signing. Flanagan will provide much needed "depth." The guy is making $3 million a year, he better be our starting center. The only way he is not a starter is if Hodgdon has a rediculous training camp.

You can't read the articles from the Texans site as if they are written by Kubiak. These guys are writers, not coaches.

Not only that but since McKinney has moved to LG, if I remember correctly, Hodgdon was our only center, so now we have 2 centers, so we do have more depth at center technically lol.

I think flanagan will start and mentor Hogdon during his tenure here. Perhaps Hogdon will unseat him in 2 years but thats the timeline im working on.

Does Larry Allen play center?? If we were looking for a Center, would you like a ProBowl Center, would that make you happy??

Larry Allen signed with the 49'ers and is making 1-2 million more a season than Flanagan is scheduled to make...

and your point is........... ??

You were saying if we were looking for a center we should have looked at him. We were in talks with Flanagan before Allen was released, Allen is 3 years older than Flanagan, Allen commanded more money than Flanagan, and even though Allen has played center before, he is a guard.

uh....... no.... I quoted a dude x19994 or something like that, who didn't like the Flanagan signing... said we should've picked up Larry Allen. My point, was that Larry isn't a Center....... he's a gaurd...... he's been to the ProBowl as a gaurd.

Dude thought having Allen for his probowl experience was a plus...... In my post, the Words ProBowl(and some others) are actually a hypertext link embedded into the text. If you click on that link, you'll find a report of Flanagan beeing voted to the 2003 ProBowl as a center.....

I misunderstood your post, sorry.

Im really liking this offseason, we are addressing needs that we should have address last year, a couple more signings and we are set

Actually peed in my pants when I heard about Flannigan being picked up. We finally did something for our OLine! :sarcasm:

Had season-ending surgery Oct. 7, 2004, to alleviate recurring knee tendinitis after the level of pain became unmanageable for him.

long shadow of injury early in his professional career

having his 2004 season cut short by knee tendinitis issue

An older, injury-prone lineman...sounds familiar. He's not going to be much use to us sitting on the sidelines. At least we didn't overpay him. Let's hope things work out, but I'd wouldn't count on his tendinitis getting better as he gets older.

I didnt realize he is a 10 year vet, wow. Atleast he is "seasoned", lol. For some reason I thought he was NFL younger (under 30). Hopefully he can teach our young center something.

Thanks for the link. This is my favorite quote:

The Packers will miss Flanagan’s leadership and intelligence in the locker room as much as anything. He was one of the team’s best unofficial spokesmen and knew the ins and outs of the NFL after 10 years with the Packers.

I like his ability but I like the stuff in the quote better. The best teams have guys like this--really talented, really experienced guys who are leaders. This will make our QB position better and our line better.

Coaches can only do so much--the players need experienced guys they can rely on and maybe talk about the stuff they might be afraid to talk to coaches about.

Hopefully some of that 'it' will rub off on our QB.

I wanted to make a QB/Center joke here, but I'll restrain myself in the service of good taste.

Sometimes humor is best disguised... it's more fun that way.

...but then again, sometimes humor is in the eye of the beholder.

Excellent! You identified my joke was in the description of not telling the joke.

So a 10 time probowler is not worth more money than a 10 year veteran who's been to the probowl?
My deal is not that we got Flannigan, my deal is that we didn't even look at Allen and if you go by what they have done on the field Allen is clearly the better choice, center, guard or whatever. We need a veteran to bring the young linemen we have up to snuff. Maybe Flannigan can, we will see, but you are a fool if you believe that we shouldn't at least have talked to Allen.

They sought players based on the offense they are going to run. Brown was given up because he was a big plow type of player. Our offense features lighter more mobile people in the O-line. I believe Flannigan fits that mold plus he has a relationship with Sherman. He and Sherman have had some differences, but I suspect Sherman feels he will fit in in the O-line they are trying to field.

So the way I'm seeing it is

Wand...McKinney...Flannagan...Weigert...Pitts

I still think I prefer Pitts at LG, McKinney at RG, and Wade at Tackle, but there is room to shuffle people around, and they have a stronger line now. Another possibility would be to switch the tackles. Any way, I think they have much better protection inside.

You are lost, you make way too much sense to be posting on this board. That is the best reason for not looking at Allen that I have heard. I hope Flannigan makes the probowl next year so we won't jump on Casserly like we did last year about his other personnel moves.
