Which QB would you have suggested?
I don't have a specific name, but the picking of A, Any QB is almost non-existent from their Drafts. Through 2016, the year before Watson, they have drafted a TOTAL of 6 QB's and Carr is the only one above Round 4. That just seems wrong. Like I said, I don't have a name but other teams were able to come up with QB's from the draft and the Texans don't even give a QB a shot before the Fourth Round. It just seems wrong.
Jimmy G
Yes but there was that whole value vs availability thing that has been speculated on
Yeah I understand. Didn't know if you were talking 1.1 picks or just 1st round picks. But still who would you have picked when?
Our depth has improved in a single offseason. I think thats very telling.
Jimmy G
With a 1st round pick? Because that was the question.
Picking JimmyG with a 1st, when he was picked with the last selection of the 2nd round says a lot about you.

BTW, Garoppolo has flashed potential, but I don't think any team offered a first rounder for him or thought enough of him to draft him in the first.

Understood. I just think it's funny "Mr I know better than Rick Smith" even in hindsight would have traded back into the 1st to get Garropolo even though he was there for the taking with the 33rd pick.
And I said what I would have done at the time. So it's not revisionist history. BTW, I would've rather traded back into the 1st for Jimmy G than lost him like Ricky did.
Further demonstrating a poor understanding of the draft. He was on the board for the entire 2nd round. No one else believed he was worth a 2nd round pick compared to the talent that was available. Much less a 1st.
Oh I fully understand how the draft works, you should make a trip over to my crawfish boil and lets talk about the 1st 2 days of the draft on April 29th and eat some crawfish. Bring a couple of your family/friends if you want too. There will be between 50/75 people at it and we will have a good time.
The difference between what you're saying and what I'm saying is, I wanted Jimmy G on the Texans and rightfully had him rated as a 1st rd pick. I dont care where he was picked. I wanted him to be the Texans QB and would've traded GM's thought of Jimmy G.
What you're doing is looking back in hindsight and saying, well 31 other GM's didn't agree with what you thought at that time. I'm telling you I dont care what 31 other GM's thought and said so at the time.
My question for you is, why didn't we have this discussion in the pre-draft run up to the the Texans and their new regime at that time instead of what we are doing now.
What I have is called conviction when it comes to my mocks, something you obviously cant understand. Why do I have these convictions, I put in the time studying the guys in my mocks.
#1. Open to the public?
#2. Yeah, a few of us did
#3. you did
#4. I think you did... a few times
#5. Awesome!
Love to see you here. I will pm you.
Crawfish boil is on the last Saturday in April. You going to be in town?

I think we did. I think I might have gone so far as to say he'd be there in the 4th... But that might have been emotion speaking at the time. Honestly thinking he would be taken in the 2nd. But when he got past 28, there was no doubt in my mind he was going to be a Texan.
However, the trade talks with the Patriots were going on during that draft & to me, it appeared they finally got the message we weren't (I mean Ricky wasn't) going to give them a 4th or earlier pick for Mallett & out of spite they took Garoppolo.
Then when they extended Brady & drafted Brissett further signaled Garoppolo was not part of their plans.
For some reason you read that & believe it to degrade JimmyG. Which it is not meant to be. I've never mentioned my opinion of the man as a player.
I just placed a higher value on him than the GM'S or you placed on him.
From my perspective it's not the value... But reading team needs vs available talent. Didn't make sense for anyone to take him ahead of Bridgewater. After that, knowing most teams weren't going to spend a 2nd on a QB, other than us meaning we could NAB whatever QB we wanted in the 3rd. Top of the third, first pick in the 3rd.
They need to fire Romeo Crennel. Defense is trash
Agreed. OB is such a *****. This team is so scared to unleash Watson, but when they do he dominates.atson this game would have been a blowout.
One bad defensive game is enough to fire Crennel, while one good offensive game is enough to keep OBrien 5 years
Fire them both.Lol you’re delusional if you think this is the only bad game Crennel and the defense has had. The splits have been done..Crennel’s defense against halfway competent qb play is giving up close to 30 pts and 400-500 yds passing.
It’s just simply not as good as your precious DVOA ranking says it is.
One game? You are funny. The Texans are ranked 26th against the pass. They have been horrible against the pass. One bad defensive game is enough to fire Crennel, while one good offensive game is enough to keep OBrien 5 years
The problem is we have been thin at CB all year. We haven't had a good answer for the third CB and have had problems even keeping two good ones on the field at times due to injury. One game? You are funny. The Texans are ranked 26th against the pass. They have been horrible against the pass.

Watson is going to ask Cal for an OC?Had we won I'd have thought this was a good win. We lost... I think this is a good loss. Seriously, I saw more to give me hope in this loss than I've seen in many of our wins. Biggest thing, DeShaun seemed a little perturbed at the end of the game. He's going to figure out how to prevent this from happening again.
I think it is more a personnel issue than a coaching on defense. And top 10 overall still.
Over 5 years this has been a top 10 unit. But people want to fire Crennel and keep O'briens bottom 10 offense.
Very logical

The defense is only ranked in the top 10 because they are extremely good against the run. Being good against the run is awesome but when the playoffs come around, if your secondary can’t stop anyone, you are one and done. Playoffs are won by qbs and if your defense can’t slow down an elite qb, its overAnd top 10 overall still.

I'd take seeing Mahomes over Rivers if I'm honest.Imagine what Mahomes or rivers will do to this defense in the playoffs?

And what has Jimmy done?I liked Jimmy G more than Teddy.
Only if Watson can cover a TE down the seam and a RB out of the flat at the same time can he prevent THIS from happening again.Had we won I'd have thought this was a good win. We lost... Thing is, your career isn't tied to your mock. BB is a pretty good talent evaluator, correct? Tell me why he cant draft a wr to save his life? Tell me why he dumped cyrus Jones, a 2nd rd pick before his rookie deal? It's not as easy as we try to make it. A good friend of mine has been in those draft rooms and you cant even imagine.
And what has Jimmy done?
My college coach used to say, be a student of the game , not a fan. Some people on this board are just fans. I'm more of a student and based on your post, I think you're in the same category. We may differ and have differed on team construction and who is at fault, but I think most see the flaws of this team. I think alot of fault falls on coaching of this team and based on your post, you blame the gm and acquisition of the players. I believe this team is limited with the exception of a couple of spots. Their explosions is also a question mark. Now who to blame is another story. I try to be as objective as I can be whether its players, coaches, or front office.I didn't mean to imply it was easy.
I just don't like posters that back mgmt decisions regardless if they are bad decisions or not.
Sometimes mgmt makes bad decisions even if they are by omission.
Jimmy G had 7 td and 5 ints last year. This year he wasn't playing well either. Now we both can agree the Texans should've drafted a qb that year. I've been on board with drafting a qb for a long time now. To your credit, you were all in for Jimmy G. Personally, I wanted Teddy or Derek.Played very well last year, before getting hurt this year.
Kind of like Watson playing well and then getting hurt. I don't remember seeing this post in regards to Watson this offseason. Maybe i missed one of your posts.
Get paid???And what has Jimmy done?
