Reed make up your mind.I for one do not care for a DB that is not certain of what he is doing.

He's going to pursue $7 million while half the league has cap problems.
Ego adjustment period. When he comes out of denial, the Texans' offer will be the most attractive one left.
May be the most attractive, but doesn't mean he will sign it. Lets not forget that Asomugha, by his own admission, left the most attractive deal on the table to sign w/ the Eagles whom he thought had a better chance to win it all. Who says Reed won't do the same to stay w/ the only team he has known as a pro. I believe it's time to put Reed's feet to fire & do what's best for the Texans before they are left w/ scraps.
Another team offered Asomugha more than $60 million?
It would make sense that Smith knew what the Ravens were willing to pay before he made his offer. The meeting was: "Here's what we think of you, here's how you fit what we do, here's what we're willing to pay you." It wasn't part of a multi bid process. It was one shot. Smith does not make that shot unless he knows what cards the other players are holding.
I'm pretty amazed that we have spent so much time and ink on this thread. I believe most of us doubted this would be a deal that could get done when we heard about it. And now that things have transpired the way they have it looks more and more like this was yet one more Texans pipe dream. Should be no surprise or disappointment we have seen this scenerio played out at least two or three times before. Reed is not coming here.
Reed just wants the ravens to stroke his ego. He will take less money to return to the ravens when its all said and Done. He has ratbird DNA embedded in him!
yep. This is what I believe, as well. The Texans had the stink of desperation on this one. Reed is playing Houston to sweeten a deal with Baltimore. I won't speculate if he was seriously interested in coming here, but it would not surprise me at all if he never had any intention of being a Houston Texan.
Baltimore is playing Reed too. If they sign Huff, then Reed isnt going back.
They aren't signing Huff until Reed decides. They are just using Huff to lower the price on Reed. Huff would cost what, maybe 2-3m a year? They are going to say to Reed's agent, "we can get Huff for 2.5m a year for 2 years, but we're willing to give you 9m for 2 years." Give him one last chance and force him to decide. Right now, the Ravens haven't shut the door on Reed, so he's still hoping he can get more out of them.

I don't see how the texans are desperate. They are courting a guy they want. They aren't openly bending over backwards and giving in to his every desire...
Do they want reed?
Sure.
But that doesn't mean they're desperate.
When you are going after someone you like and you do nice things for them that doesn't make them desperate. Just means you like them.
Then the Texans need to start meeting with other free agents like Baltimore is doing. Reed thinks he holds all the leverage because the Texans havent met with anyone else.
I agree 100%. This will at least allow the Texans an opportunity to show others they are interested & take the ball out of Reed's court some. It seems he's holding up the process in hopes of getting something better & the Texans seem to be allowing it as other options are being signed away. Baltimore seems to be doing the smart thing by having other options ready while the Texans FO is...well...being the Texans.
The Texans did the very thing you're criticizing them for not doing with Namdi, whose to say they're not doing it again right now with Reed? Many fans complained they were putting all their eggs in one basket with Namdi then out of the blue we signed JJoseph and Manning. I wouldn't be surprised if a similar thing happened here. Despite what many here think Smith isn't stupid
They are all optional for us, but not for Reed. The only thing that's not optional for us is the guaranteed coin, and don't know how much of that 12 M is guaranteed ?I agree. And if the reports of the 3-yr, 12 mil offer are accurate, that's a good deal for us... especially if that 3rd year is optional.
but, personally, I'd just as soon spend the cash on Dumervil....
...or maybe Brandon Lloyd...
I think it's only normal to be impatient.
After all, people just want to see their team get better.
A GM is going to be criticized no matter what; it goes with the territory.

Wished we could sign a couple FA at other positions like ILB and Nose.

Mitchel could not beat out Cody with his back injuries and even when Cody went out with the ribs, he was rushed back to replace Mitchell. As I noted on another thread I think Phillips is okay with Mitchell starting. Not comparing my knowledge to Wade but think he is wrong. Agree with you on SHarpton who cannot stay on field.I don't think they consider NT a need as far as a starter. I think they believe Mitchell can be just as effective as Cody & they were satisfied w/ Cody for the last few seasons. Not saying I agree, but I do think Mitchell can at least equal Cody's production if not produce slightly more.
I also believe that they believe a healthy Sharpton could be a decent option at ILB. I like Sharpton when he is healthy, but he seems to be bit by the injury bug quite often. I dont trust his health & wish they would look at other options as well, but this is the same group that thought James was a worthy starter so going in w/ an injury prone Sharpton wouldn't surprise me.

I'm just not sure how much more Reed's got in the tank and I think Woodson has more to give.
You realize Woodson is older than Reed, right?
Curious as to how you decided Reed has only part of a season left in him? He had a very decent 2012.Yes.
I think Woodson could give us 1 good year. I don't think Reed has a full year left in him.
Either way, I expect us to draft a safety and I expect that safety to be starting in 2014. I don't think we're signing either Woodson or Reed expecting them to play longer than a year.
Ed Reed yet to make a final decision, but Texans continued their push for him during league meetings. Strong offer and interest. Expectation was Reed would make a decision today, but no one will rush him. About to hop on flight out of Phoenix. will update if I can

Is anyone else getting a listing for 80 pages but the current one is 75?
