If you ever choose to believe anything that Cabot tells us about Watson. Everyone, medical staff and Watson included were worried that he would have gotten run over had he been allowed to play....................and his injured shoulder would be truly exposed. No one wanted Watson trotted out there and be embarrassed by the D he was about to face. Yeh, Watson knows his body alright...........well enough to avoid the certainty of taking bullets.
Seems to be trouble brewing
Why would anyone question his toughness on this board? It doesn't matter if anyone like him for what he's done, but to question his toughness is a bit strange. As stated, if you're injured and play poorly, nobody will give a players the injury excuse. If you ever choose to believe anything that Cabot tells us about Watson. I wonder if there will be an excuse for him not going against the stout Raven D. His shoulder will still be wearing a big ole target.
I can tell you that having taken care of my share of NFL players, this situation is very questionable. When I didn't clear the player, many did not want to accept the decision. They many times tried to push me to change my decision in every way they could..............because they knew their body. I cannot remember a single example of a player refusing to play after my clearance (which the basis of the decision was always thoroughly discussed prior to becoming officially released)...........because they knew their body. But I do know that some of my fellow physicians have told me that in very exceptional cases where they decided that a player could be cleared, especially a very important player like a QB...........if there was disagreement on the decision on the part of the player who felt he was not ready to play, the matter would always be agreed upon before a final official publicized clearance or non-clearance decision was made. Why would anyone question his toughness on this board? To @leebigeztx ‘s point. I thought you were leery of team physicians pushing players to play too soon. For example, team doctors have cleared Carr and Burrow to play. Yep, Cleveland being bad is important to the Texans. Plus the Browns being bad probably means that Derrick is either hurt or bad. Both of which would be icing on the cake.Hate to root for the Titans, but that's where I'm at today as the travel to Cleveland.

So, what is the difference if Burrows or Carr got cleared, showed up and didn’t feel right?
Yep. Maybe Watson and co started the process to get Stefanski removed. He knows it, and his response is to make Watson look bad. He basically came out and said Watson could have played.Burrows and Carr pushed all week like heck to be out there. I can't speak for the team physicians for why they cleared them. Those discussions with agreement between the parties would have been carried out prior to official announcements. If Watson was pushing to not play, certainly his physician would have given him the opportunity to discuss the situation with him........and together decide the final route to take. No way did either party independently make the decision. That's why I would have to say that there is much more to this story. Furthermore, there is no way that either party didn't know the potential outcome of his ability or disability to throw until just prior to game time.

I question his toughness. It’s tough to be a stand up team leader and model for a community that expects you to act honorably and appreciative of a guaranteed contract that could fund a small town for years. It’s tough to respect the image of a football league that has given you every opportunity in the world to succeed. it’s tough to give a community hope and encouragement at a level that they can never attain but just want to simply attach themselves to something successful in their lives. But it’s not tough to prance around while knowing that the world knows you like to force women to put their fingers in your butt for money. Why would anyone question his toughness on this board? Yep, everybody knew that at the very least if the Browns didn't make the playoffs that Stefanski would be made the scapegoat. Stefanski will be gone after this season and a minority HC will be hired per Derrick's wishes. But Stefanski is going to throw as much shade as possible on Derrick before he walks out the door. Rightfully so, BOB might also be a candidate for the Browns job.Yep. Maybe Watson and co started the process to get Stefanski removed. He knows it, and his response is to make Watson look bad. I was upfront on the DW4 bus. Loved his play here & hung all my Texans hopes on him & believed in my heart of hearts that he was going to legitimize this clown show. Why would anyone question his toughness on this board? He didn't want to face the Ravens because he knew they would rag him much more than the Steelers didBut after that crap against the Steelers & this "shoulder" thing, youDam right I'm going to question his toughness. Hell, I want to revoke his man card.
He's always acted like a coddled child. That's his problem.I was upfront on the DW4 bus. Loved his play here & hung all my Texans hopes on him & believed in my heart of hearts that he was going to legitimize this clown show.

I think he's letting this stuff get in his head & he's acting like a child. Speculation on my part, I admit.

Because it looks like he quit on his current team & they haven't figured out how to present it yet.Why does everyone gloss over that the dude totally quit on his previous team?
Because it looks like he quit on his current team & they haven't figured out how to present it yet.
They've figured it out..............Now..............It's that the Browns failed to communicate how weak Watson's throws were Sunday. If his throws Sunday were weak, his throws were weak Saturday afternoon. QBs commonly test their arms outside of formal practices. Saturday Watson said that he was ready to go. Overhead athletes' arms/shoulders don't miraculously go from strong to to weak, or too weak to strong in 12 hours. No one's last minute explanation for Watson not playing following medical clearance makes sense. If something unusual occurred from the time of clearance to the time that Watson stated he couldn't go.............the medical clearance could/would be rescinded...........it wasn't.Because it looks like he quit on his current team & they haven't figured out how to present it yet.
Yeah just like I thought. He can’t stand Watson.
Your head coach doesn’t come out and say a guy could have played but chose not to unless there is animosity.lol, you’re reading a WHOLE lot into it from what u posted & as usual, off base.
Reality of it is this. This is the 1st year really that the browns have a legit chance to win the division under Stefanski….& he’s feeling the pressure. The Steelers aren’t good, the Bengals look like crap and the Ravens are injured as hell and really aren’t that good either. Stefanski also isn’t well liked in Cleveland and there'd been some thoughts that maybe DTR would be able to replace DW4…he was the preseason darling……..well his performance Sunday shows he’s no where close to being a suitable replacement for DW4…..So rather than him just own the fact that he’s all out of moves and say the typical coach speak “we need to play better” nonsense, he’s choosing to low key take a shot at DW4…basically trying to say he needs him to keep his job without actually saying that.
Fans have soured on Stefanski & he’s not long for the job…he will likely be gone after this year if either 1 of the following scenarios happens…
they don’t make the playoffs
They make it but get boat-raced or he makes some type of bone-headed call or game plan that costs his team the game.

I wonder how Cleveland's offensive line feels about Watson's decision? I'm thinking he needs to take them on a short trip to Mexico for jet ski. There’s an interesting contrast between Kevin Stefanski’s comments on Deshaun Watson, David Njoku
By Mike Florio
Published October 3, 2023 06:49 PM
Browns coach Kevin Stefanski might not have intended to send the message, but the message is unmistakable.
There’s a contrast between his comments about quarterback Deshaun Watson and tight end David Njoku. Stefanski has said Watson was medically cleared to play despite a shoulder injury, but decided not to. And Stefanski has praised Njoku as a “warrior” for playing with burns on his face and arm.
Yes, Stefanski defended Watson’s decision. Stefanski said that Watson “knows his body,” that he has “played through serious pain before . . . very, very serious injuries.”
“It wasn’t a matter of pain tolerance or anything. He just did not feel like he had his full faculties,” Stefanski said.
Still, why even get into any of the details? Just call it a “collective decision,” as the team did on Sunday in response to an inquiry from PFT. Either Stefanski didn’t realize the manner in which his comment would be interpreted, or he did. Throw in the kudos to Njoku for playing with burns on his face, and there’s definitely a message.
The other wrinkle is this. Watson said on Friday that he’d play. Teammates apparently believed he’d play. When, despite having medical clearance, he didn’t, teammates might have been confused.
For most players, medical clearance is the only green light that matters. Even if they don’t have their “full faculties,” they play. In any given week, multiple players on most teams don’t have their “full faculties.” They play anyway.
Then there’s the question of whether backup quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson truly was ready to go. He took extra practice reps because Watson was limited throughout the week. But if Watson was saying he would play, did the rookie really think that, come Sunday morning, Watson would do otherwise?
This isn’t about what anyone outside the Browns organization thinks. This is about what the players in the locker room think. And there’s a message from Stefanski that could be a reflection of what they think, whether Stefanski meant to send that message to the world or not.
What does this have to do with DeShaun Watson being medically cleared to play and then not playing?
My uncle did the same with nfl and mlb players, I'm not disputing that, but as we've witnessed a guy failing a physical at one place, but passes at another. The doctors are to get you on the field, doesn't mean you're at optimal performance. Look at Kenyon Green as an example. To me, his transgressions deserve to be ridiculed and mocked. All the negative press he gets, he deserves. I will never question his willingness and want to play or his toughness. He was sacked alot here, beat up, busted lung, and whatever else.I can tell you that having taken care of my share of NFL players, this situation is very questionable. You are correct. When you look at these examples, most indeed are ones that fail with one team and pass with another. It is much more exceptional that one team passes the player and then the other team doesn't. The former example many times has an ulterior team motive for not wanting the player for whatever reason to begin with. As I've said before, I'm not impressed with team doctors' duty to look after the best health interests and protect their player patients. My uncle did the same with nfl and mlb players, I'm not disputing that, but as we've witnessed a guy failing a physical at one place, but passes at another. At this point, Watson doesn’t deserve the benefit of the doubt. However, if a QB misses practice, then practices and doesn’t throw a pass over 10 yards or fully test his shoulder. I’m not sure what you can expect on game day when he tries to fully test his shoulder.Stefanski confirmed he did everything he could to try to go, he just didn’t feel like he “could be the guy we needed him to be…”…so he sat out.
With that likely analysis. In your opinion. Should/could he have played a week after suffering that injury? The Browns have reported that Watson's injury is a simple shoulder contusion. Although not confirmed by the team, Watson when interviewed Sunday made a passing remark that his shoulder had developed fluid. That goes along with what I originally posted.............a deep shoulder bruise involving the rotator cuff/ Both a rotator cuff or bursa direct trauma which he definitely sustained could account for this fluid..........not a simple shoulder bruise.
I already addressed this after the injury in the NFL section. With that likely analysis. In your opinion. Should/could he have played a week after suffering that injury?
Rotator cuff contusions are not really all that predictable. Gentle ROM (not throwing) rather than total rest actually helps avoid shoulder freezing. But activities that cause further trauma or bleeding into the tissues should be avoided. Healing for an overhead athlete can be anywhere from several days to several weeks. The injury causes significant pain and stiffness. Ice, steroid injections and anti-inflammatories can be used to treat it. Too early return to throwing or another hit the shoulder is likely to cause further damage. As an aside, if the original or a secondary hit is hard enough, it can cause small tears in the cuff, and can prolong the healing even more. If Watson were smart (and that's an oxymoron), he won't be out there Sunday.
Yeah just like I thought. He can’t stand Watson.
Watching NFLN and they’re saying the Deshaun situation is odd needs watching.
Why does everyone gloss over that the dude totally quit on his previous team?
Should always be mentioned first.
Browns getting what they deserve for getting in bed with the quitting POS towel boy. Couldn't happen to better people than the Haslam's. LMAO, was this outcome really that hard to predict? They've figured it out..............Now..............It's that the Browns failed to communicate how weak Watson's throws were Sunday. Great attempt to deflect.bit that’s not what he said…at least from the link you posted.
Then there’s the post game press conference.
There’s just a lot of reaching in here for things you guys WANT to be the truth and the logic, facts and eternal truths about life in the NFL just doesn’t jive with that……..b/c at the end of it all, Winning ball games is the only thing that matters
Stefankski’s offenses have been circling the drain since that year Cleveland made the playoffs 3 years ago….not a good look for an offensive-minded HC
And as of right now, DW4 is his most valuable offensive asset.
Stefanski has been failing long before DW4 arrived and what we know is the Browns went out & got DW4 strictly b/c of Stefanski’s failures.
Yeah just like I thought. He can’t stand Watson.
Well, we know Hopkins chose to play elsewhere than play with Watson.Stefanski had 3 years to get his offense on point & he has failed.
not an attempt to deflect at all, it’s just the truth. You have such a hard on for Ill-will towards this guy that your reasoning has hit an all-time low….which for u, is pretty damn low.
If ANY of his teammates really felt like he quit on them whether it was here or there, he’d be public enemy number 1 in that locker room.. I think we can safely say, that’s not the case tho.
It’s really just sad that u and a few others can’t get over the fact that he wasn’t prosecuted…blame the jury of your peers for that & BoB didn’t need ANY help in getting himself fired here, he was able to accomplish that all on his own by doing **** like cussing out fans.
As for Stefanski….Think it’s safe to say he just doesn’t know how to handle his players b/c this is now the 2nd time he’s done something like this; the 1st time was with his former qb no less. There were growing rumors about a rift between Baker and Stefanski about playcalling, protection schemes and how Stefanski downplayed Baker’s injury issues before Baker was finally shipped off & labeled as spoiled and immature brat. Fast forward to now, Baker hasn’t had any issues with any team he’s been on since & Stefanski is up to his old tricks in not portraying his qb in the best of light injury wise…portraying things in the media as 1 way when in fact they are not so. MANY Players have spoken in this and they don’t like that & that **** gets around the locker room quickly. You just don’t say what Stefanski did.
He’s feeling the pressure only this time, it doesn’t matter what he says, DW4 with his guaranteed 230 mil ain’t going NOWHERE. Stefanski is likely the guy to be shipped out.
Well, we know Hopkins chose to play elsewhere than play with Watson.
Also, was Stefanksi really ever on the Watson train? Of course not. That was Jimmy H. You can also say this would be the second stop where Watson has had problems with either a coach or ownership, so it’s not just Stefanski.
And yet before the Browns Titans game DW4 and Nuk are seen pre-game dapping and hugging each other like bros.
That doesn’t mean anything. The Texan’s owner’s husband gave DW a handshake pregame in his return to Houston. Doesn’t mean they are on good terms.
The owner turned her back though. You know how she feels.
I agree. We also remember Baker playing with a bum shoulder and didn't play well. Your tape is your tape. Nobody will excuse you from playing poorly if you're injured. You are correct. When you look at these examples, most indeed are ones that fail with one team and pass with another. It is much more exceptional that one team passes the player and then the other team doesn't. As concerns Watson, with his long history of manipulation and dishonesty, it should not surprise anyone that Watson's honesty regarding the present situation comes into serious question. His toughness cannot easily be questioned, but Watson is not used to failure and does not do well with criticism. With his performance since coming back except for 1 game being at best mundane, no doubt he was looking at the Ravens scarey defense/pass rush..............it was a strong formula for a failure. It should be evident that Watson's make up has a much stronger fear of being seen as a failure than of being injured or playing injured.
It’s really just sad that u and a few others can’t get over the fact that he wasn’t prosecuted…
And that is after he so strongly swore that he would clear his name in a court of law.He wasn't criminally prosecuted because sexual assault cases are notoriously hard to convict according to all criminal court statistics.
He was prosecuted, though. He was found guilty by a court of public opinion and he readily paid the women prosecuting him instead of trying to clear his name in a court of law.
