Hasn’t shown much of either recently.Deshaun obviously wants money, but I think people are discounting his competitiveness and desire to get back to playing. If you were gonna play hardball now is the time.
For those that think teams are going to hold back on seeking a trade for Watson until the NFL decides whether or not to suspend him, you're missing the boat. He's 26 years old, locked into a long term contract & considered one of the most talented QB's in the game. Even if he's suspended for an entire year (which I don't think will happen), do any of you really think that team would pass on the chance to trade for a franchise QB that has already proven on the field that he's an NFL franchise QB & not a potential franchise QB? I didn't think so.
We have no idea what he wanted, the team wanted, or what he was advised. It’s just easier to blame him.Hasn’t shown much of either recently.
I wouldn't be surprised if to screw the Texans, Watson chose 1 team to lift his NTC.........in order to prevent a bidding war.........and thus critically lower the return for the Texans.
The new league yr starts on March 20th. I bet that Derrick's traded before then.By April 1st. I would start by telling teams to submit their best offer.

Caserio can request whatever he wants. But he has zero leverage in forcing Watson to drop the NTC.
Disagree. Will see how he fares against the Personal Conduct Policy.
They will be willing to trade Chinn
They are willing to trade anybody but Burns.
Give me Brown/Chinn/Henderson and #6. Plus a 2023 1st/2nd.
Draft Walker in the 1st at #3 and Sauce at #6. Then draft ol/skill positions for the rest of the draft.
Imagine a draft that looks like this and this is certainly possible,
Rd.1 Walker
Rd.1 Sauce
Rd.2 Green
Rd. 3. Salyer
Rd.3 Pierce
Rd. 4 Jelani Woods
I dunno...considering Rogers just signed a 4 yr 200 million deal, Watson's contract isn't looking so bad anymore! It's crazy what these guys are commanding now for compensation. It might as well be play money the way it's being thrown around!I keep seing this, so my question is, what exactly has Derrick accomplished?
I do believe there are idiot GM's out there that dont understand what cap % and trading for Derrick will doom their franchises for the rest of that contract.
Roethlisberger wasn’t charged and initially got 6 games for one case. For 22 women it’s an embarrassment to the league.NFL has had their investigation ongoing for a while…..I feel like they’ll come back in the same boat as the GJ. The evidence wasn’t there for the GJ so it’ll be tough for the NFL to come back and drop the hammer. They may take his lost 2021 season as time served for the overall disruption.

That’s not the way this works. That’s a guaranteed lowball offer. Exactly what is the incentive for a team to make an aggressive offer if they don’t have to.My interpretation is that they are asking him to waive the ntc for individual teams on a one by one basis, before they invest the time negotiating with that particular team.
Makes sense to me
He was paid in 2021. The disruption was on the Texans.NFL has had their investigation ongoing for a while…..I feel like they’ll come back in the same boat as the GJ. Then he says “that’s why Houston fans want him, because his name is Carr!” lol.Hell no.
Who is the redhead on ESPN 97.5? Banging the table for a Carr let's me know he's not from Houston.

Tummy ache? Give him some Pepto Bismal and sit him down for a day. Document, document, document. Then let him convince a jury he's too sick to play - for days on end.For what? If he's got a tummy ache and can't play, they can send him to a thousand specialists and they'll never find anything. Like me, they'll just say "oh, guess what, you got IBS. We don't know what that is, but since we can't find otherwise a damn thing wrong with you, that's what we'll call it". Injuries can be feigned and will be gotten away with. There's nothing the Texans can do except get rid of his ass or pay him, one of the two.
They didn't list the most important criteria. A team that wants him and is willing to pay the price to get him. Those are the most significant delimiters.

Sitting out the 17 games is not equivalent to being suspended. Suspended players are not paid. This entire sordid affair is so unprecedented. I could see Goodell giving him a 10 game suspension, he appeals on the basis that he sat out 17 games and a year of his career.
After the appeal, he gets suspended for 4-6 games and the NFL spins it that he was suspended for the equivalent of 22 games. One for each civil case.
Not now, no.Nobody on this board has any idea of which teams he would exercise his NTC for. He first has to find a team because he may have been no billed but his character is on the 50 yard line with all the lights focused on it. And the NFL just might be ready to exercise their punishment phase which just might be as hard as he wants to make it.
IDK but there are these comments by @djohn2oo8. Maybe he can elaborate.Heard and reading more stories about the Panthers wanting Watson and are pushinghard to get him. No clue if fact or even if it is if he would lift his NTC to do it.
Anyone know anything about this situation?
Interesting that Watson wouldn’t waive his clause for Carolina
Watson had to agree with that decision.......actually moreso, as he proclaimed he would not play another down for the Texans. It’s going to depend on how the NFL views their own investigation. Will their own investigation uncover more than what was presented to the GJ? If not, what’s their position if Watson’s situation, b/c of a lack of evidence, comes off as a money grab?
Also, Watson and the Players Union may push back against additional punishment based on the fact that the criminal side of this has been dropped. Watson and the Texans took the initiative to put him in limbo for an entire season as both awaited for the GJ’s decision.
Well of course it was self imposed. He told the Texans he wouldn’t play for them. And then the lawsuits came out. From what we’ve seen I’d say the nfl told them no trade until we know what this is all about. It had to be this way because the trade rumors disappeared. And this NTC stuff is overblown IMO. I’m pretty sure the Texans will take all offers and allow those teams to convince DW to play for them. We don’t know who he wants to play for but we know that the number of teams willing to trade for him is not the universe of the nfl. He may have a NTC but it’s worthless if the Texans don’t honor it. Just sit on him. DW can’t afford to keep missing playing time from a professional standpoint and with time working against him and probable future injuries to some QB’s the Texans will get what they want. DW hasn’t sweated enough yet.He sat out a season based solely on accusations that couldn’t be substantiated for the lack of evidence. From what we know, the NFL never forced Watson to sit or for the Texans to stop seeking a trade. This looks more like self-imposed punishment since Watson had absolutely zero desire to suit up for the Texans in 2022.
As one of the replies said, why would Caserio want to waste his time negotiating with a team Watson wouldn't waive his NTC for?
This is interesting as hell to me. If anybody cares to chime in, are y’all reading this as Caserio requesting Deshaun to completely waive his NTC altogether? Or for any particular team before even negotiating?
Watson's refusal to drop his NTC for Carolina supposedly occured back in mid 2021, before the trade deadline. It's a different ballgame. We'll have to see what he does now.IDK but there are these comments by @djohn2oo8. Maybe he can elaborate.
I can see two bucks butting heads here - Watson with what you suggested, and Caserio's unwillingness to waste time negotiating with teams DW won't drop his clause for.Caserio can request whatever he wants. But he has zero leverage in forcing Watson to drop the NTC.
I'm with you Thorn, let's get this dawn of a new era started (aka post DW4 with the Houston Texans) !I wouldn't put money on that. Hope you're right though, I'm ready for all this crap to be history and the new Texans (whatever that is) can get started.
I don't see that. Everyone (Texans, Watson, NFL teams) want this trade to happen. The start of the new league year brings urgency. This happens sooner than later.I can see two bucks butting heads here
He'll be taking a huge risk regarding his future playing career if he does that. I imagine Caserio will be unwilling to be hogtied to one team who would then have leverage on Texans.I wouldn't be surprised if to screw the Texans, Watson chose 1 team to lift his NTC.........in order to prevent a bidding war.........and thus critically lower the return for the Texans.
This. That way Caserio can sit back and peruse which ones offer the most for Texans as obviously some of the teams will have to offer attractive players that fit our scheme.By April 1st. I would start by telling teams to submit their best offer.
That's much too late. A team won't be able to maneuver while holding space for Watson's contract. That will be the first order of business. I expect something by the end of the week.By April 1st. I would start by telling teams to submit their best offer.
Do you think Caserio will waste time negotiating with teams Watson will (could) just flip off?I don't see that. Everyone (Texans, Watson, NFL teams) want this trade to happen. The start of the new league year brings urgency. This happens sooner than later.
After giving this more thought I tend to agree with you, sooner rather than later. That's much too late. A team won't be able to maneuver while holding space for Watson's contract. That will be the first order of business. I expect something by the end of the week.
I would hope that Nick has a list of teams on his desk that DW4 agrees to waive his NTC.Do you think Caserio will waste time negotiating with teams Watson will just flip off?
I think this is much further down the road than many here believe. Watson's people have been talking to teams, teams have been talking to the Texans.Nobody on this board has any idea of which teams he would exercise his NTC for.
i'm sure Goodell would like to hit Watson hard for the embarrassment he has caused. Unfortunately, embarrassment is not spelled out as a punishable offense in the CBA.Also, Watson and the Players Union may push back against additional punishment based on the fact that the criminal side of this has been dropped.
I think teams puts much of the onus on the Texans organization for this debacle. Remember, this began during the Easterby regime. Plus, guys that can play get the benefit of the doubt. Exceptions are always made for talent.Everyone loves a Quitter.
I think this is much further down the road than many here believe. Watson's people have been talking to teams, teams have been talking to the Texans.Do you think Caserio will waste time negotiating with teams Watson will just flip off?
The NFL has already investigated & found no reason to suspend him. Unless something else happens or new info pops up I don't see how that's going to change.Roethlisberger wasn’t charged and initially got 6 games for one case. For 22 women it’s an embarrassment to the league.
The league stated the day of the no bills that the matter remains under personal conduct review. Ezekiel Elliot didn’t get suspended until it was clear there were going to be no charges, same with Ben.The NFL has already investigated & found no reason to suspend him. Unless something else happens or new info pops up I don't see how that's going to change.
If I were Caserio I'd take all bids, negotiate the best deal & give Watson three options I'd be willing to take.As one of the replies said, why would Caserio want to waste his time negotiating with a team Watson wouldn't waive his NTC for?
With the QB situation in the NFC South, a Watson led Panthers (even giving up top players) become the favorite in the division. The QB position (and maybe the HC) are what have kept the Panthers from competing. The Panthers would get hit hard in players and picks which could put him in a similar place as the Texans. I just don’t think Watson waives his NTC for them.
Just wondering, would Watson be privvy to unannounced deals? I am thinking he would have to ask Caserio or the prospective team to tell him - which begs the question, why would they? They won't risk details leaking before a deal is inked.I think Watson will take into consideration what a team would have to give up now and in the future to obtain him. The Panthers would get hit hard in players and picks which could put him in a similar place as the Texans. I just don’t think Watson waives his NTC for them.
TB on the other hand has a team ready to go and they’re in need of a QB. If they had to lose WR, Mike Evans and picks to get Watson….they’re not really any worse off. They could renegotiate Watson’s contract to lower his cap hit, then sign another FA WR or draft one. This team could be very dynamic with a QB1 like Watson. I wonder if Gronk would have any interest in returning for another season if TB has Watson under Center? I think Watson would waive his NTC for the Bucs.
The Eagles could easily be player since they have the draft assets to make this a very good deal for the Texans. The Eagles were close to being a playoff team and maybe Watson pushes them over the top. One thing for certain, Philly won’t cough up all their RD1 picks for Watson so folks will have to lower their expectations and go with the idea that they could spread out the Texans return over this season and next. I think Watson would be on the fence in regards to the Eagles as a team going forward.
