So potentially a one-year rental for a 2nd round pick. I guess it ensures that Diggs will be "max efforting" this year.
he's perceived to be a locker room cancer, on the "decline" and he's 31; it makes sense somewhatTalk about a buzzkill, one year rental
Then why make the deal in the first place? This year's draft is deep at the WR position. I'd much rather have a 2nd round pick next year than a couple of extra late round picks. Hopefully, Nick's not through wheeling & dealing.he's perceived to be a locker room cancer, on the "decline" and he's 31; it makes sense somewhat
I mean you still got 9 picks in a deep WR draft; maybe he's just taking advantage of CJ's contract and going all in on this yearThen why make the deal in the first place? The Texans are absolutely all in this year. That was apparent in free agency. I think there will be more moves, be it before, during, or after the draft. I want to go a parade, baby.I mean you still got 9 picks in a deep WR draft; maybe he's just taking advantage of CJ's contract and going all in on this year
It was a mutual decision between the Houston Texans and Stefon Diggs (and his agent) to agree to a 1 year deal, per sources. This setup allows Houston to be more flexible with the cap, and also gives Diggs a shot at more money in the offseason.

Oblique tears sound like a relatively benign injury.......but they aren't. A grade I takes ~4-5 weeks of rest and rehab before returning to play. A grade II which is what I believe he eventually was dealing with can take 2-3 months to properly rehab. He was never given more than 2 1/2 weeks to heal, during which time he was treated with antiinflammatories and injections.Interesting. Any thoughts on how Diggs wanted issues addressed? Medically or rest when Diggs thinks necessary, etc? As a doctor (I realize without access to his records or giving him exam), what would you suggest to allow him best productivity?
I did see the oblique tear on the report from draft sharks that I posted earlier. Thanks for your comments!
I don't understand giving up three years of leverage. Maybe make it a two-year contract, but a one-year contract in exchange for a second round pick?

I'm hurting just reading this....it can hurt to breathe, to run, to turn, to bend and sometimes even to just walk.
Because a 2-time all-pro and 4-time pro-bowl proven commodity and an unknown rookie WR are not the same thing. Diggs was a 5th-round pick. Diggs wasn't Diggs when he came out. Dell was a 3rd-rounder and was amazing as a rookie, but that's the exception. There have been plenty of first-round busts or JAGs picked as high as #2, ala Charles Rogers, who went one pick before Andre Johnson.
Thanks for the info.Wilson is 2 years out from his shoulder injury and 4 years out from his ACL. He may not make it out of the 1st round. But I'm with you, I sure would like for the Texans to land him. I can't recall a LB with his speed and coverage skills and size. He's the prototypical LB for the modern offenses.
Caserio, Ryans chose to clear the books and are setup to extend Collins. Ryans will get the best out of Diggs this year. They will either re- sign Diggs, or more likely draft a wr and use Diggs cap space to add more talent to the teamI expected a reworked contract, not a one year rental. This is getting real confusing.
I don’t get caught up in “strength of the class.”
Tom Brady was a 6th round pick in a weak QB class both at the time and in hindsight. He was not a special PROSPECT but he is the GOAT QB.
Puka Nakua had a historic season as a 5th round pick. I think we can agree that last year’s WR class is not as highly thought of as this year’s.
CJ had a historic season as the #2 QB taken. Many people thought Texans should tank for a QB in this year’s “loaded” class. Who wants to trade Stroud for one of these rookie QBs?
The talent is out there every year. Its up to the scouts to find it and the coaches to bring it out.
IIRC Diggs had 4.46 at combine; did not look like he lost much of it last year. I do agree we could use another fast wide receiver. We could still use someone with game breaking speed/athleticism at WR, RB, or TE... We still don't really have that guy, though Tank is in that realm... Someone that can't be covered one on one
Allocation of dollars to one position... paying 2 WRs (neither with elite speed) over $40 million per year seems unlikely... I could see them signing Nico and keeping Diggs for 2025, but I see no way they have both beyond the 2025 season.
Name 1There would likely have been rookie WR's who would have had as much or more of an impact in our offense who don't bring with them the attitude issues Diggs brings. The trade was a steal if it pays off but I would rather we stuck with the draft this season,
Wilson can cover Kelce but like every other time, if the tight end gets loose, people are going to look at that one play and say I told you so!You think a CB is going to cover 6'5"/250 lb Kelce? Payton is 6'4"/233 lb. Kelce is listed as having 4.61 speed. So yes, Payton, with 4.43 speed, may match up better against Kelce and other TEs.
Slot receivers? Maybe not as much.
Don't forget Nick will still have opportunity to raid Practice Squads once teams begin to trim to meet roster requirements. There would likely have been rookie WR's who would have had as much or more of an impact in our offense who don't bring with them the attitude issues Diggs brings. Can someone explain why void the contract now instead of just cutting him at the end of the season? Didn’t Buffalo incur all the dead money hit in the trade and the remaining contract past this season wasn’t guaranteed? What would be the difference between this and just cutting him after the season? Wouldn’t it be best to keep the flexibility if you might wanna keep him another season if it goes well? What am I missing?

I am pretty sure he was referring to the last part of 2023 season.Diggs had 160 targets and 107 receptions last season. Let's try to get back to reality.
I think they want to maximize their opportunity to get the best of Diggs. Make him happy getting another bite at the FA apple. Gives him something to play for… Also gives them the flexibility to “choose” between Nico and Diggs as their highly paid WR once they have to pay CJ.
Nowadays these contracts mean nothing. Players will just hold out once unhappy with the contract they signed until they get a new deal.
We saw this happen with Duane Brown when he signed a long term deal and the tackle market started outpacing his contract. Then he held out half a season because he wanted a new contract and was traded.
Just because there’s no guaranteed money doesn’t mean they have to pay. They could simply not show up, take the gameday check hits until they force their way out. An asset counting against your salary cap not active on game day helps nobody.
Brown wasn't getting an extension because of comments he made about the owner. That's what inevitably got him out of Houston, which Brown wanted. We saw this happen with Duane Brown when he signed a long term deal and the tackle market started outpacing his contract. Two years left on his deal and he held out half a season because he wanted a new contract and was traded.
All of this will he stay/will he go drama becomes irrelevant if the Texans will the Super Bowl. Of course, I realize how crazy that sounds considering where this franchise was a year ago. But a lot has happened in a year. A lot. Everything that's being done this offseason is about winning the Super Bowl in New Orleans next February. And next offseason will be all about trying to repeat. If Diggs leaves as a FA after next season, Texans will receive a compensatory draft pick, so that will somewhat offset the 2nd they traded for him.
Nope. Since the Texans voided his original contract, they are not entitled to a comp pick, per the usual suspects on Twitter/xIf Diggs leaves as a FA after next season, Texans will receive a compensatory draft pick, so that will somewhat offset the 2nd they traded for him.
this offseason we have seen Nick Caserio's capabilities. Game one we will see Demeco Ryan's.Just because guys play in the slot doesn't mean they're playing the slot like Wes Welker running option routes. CD and Kupp play alot in the slot, but they don't play like Edelman. All the underneath chain moving stuff can be left to Schultz and Mixon

Only problem with that is the waiver wire is set by last years record till the start of the seasonDon't forget Nick will still have opportunity to raid Practice Squads once teams begin to trim to meet roster requirements.
Next off season will be a huge opportunity with this draft class of WRs having some tape on them - I imagine plenty of receivers either being cast off or winding up on PSs.

That is not the way comp pics workIf Diggs leaves as a FA after next season, Texans will receive a compensatory draft pick, so that will somewhat offset the 2nd they traded for him.
I am pretty sure that voiding the contract does not have anything to do with comp picks. After this season he becomes an unrestricted free agent that can either choose to go elsewhere or the Texans can extend him. If he leaves, it does not mean that Houston automatically gets a comp pick.Nope.
