Demeco is starting to give off Jason Garrett vibes.

Before I get ran out of town, let me go on the record saying that I love Demeco Ryans being our head coach. I feel that he has the mind to be a great one. With that said, and not trying to come off as an arse, I must say that if Demeco doesn’t start to move away from the too nice, big bro, gentle approach, we will continue being a one and done team in the playoffs.

Demeco, like Jason Garrett in Arlington, can be seen clapping on the sideline, high fiving players after they mess up instead of getting on their arse. It’s getting frustrating to see! He needs to start showing some passion and fire! Players feed off that! Be the strong, fiery, Alpha male that men want to be led by. Hold your players AND coaches accountable, reprimanding them in the moment!

I concur! As much as I despise the Ravens, I am smart enough to be dangerous enough to realize that John Harbaugh is a great HC BECAUSE of his no-nonsense approach!

His record consistently speaks for itself.

You don't see what goes on behind closed doors
Sideline footage often tell the tale. Typically if a guy is no nonsense like Paul Brown was, his demeanor doesn’t change ESPECIALLY during a game!

I’m not CLAIMING he is or isn’t of EITHER demeanor.

I just concur that, THAT demeanor rarely if ever prevails and that goes for any level of coaching or ANY level of teaching, be it on the field, court, diamond, or classroom!

I see Demeco typically fix things by the next week and the defense is well coached, but the offense was horrid. You have to know your role, the position coaches should tear that ass and Demeco should tell them to keep playing hard. DeMeco though could hold Strausser accountable and fire that ass. This has been systemic and gone on for a while, let's see what he does before stamping such a turd on him as Garrett

I saw him firing up the defense in a different game. He pulled the defense aside and talked to them during that game. I can’t remember which one off the top of my head.

I think you are in the minority on this.

I guess I’m going to use poor analogy but it’s what Ive got right now…

The way I see it from the sidelines… If I ran onto the field and high-fives DeMeco for running a great play vs the Carolina Panthers or some low level team. I feel he would high-five me back before security catches me.

Now if I tried to high-five Jimmy Johnson after he wins the Super Bowl… I’m getting my ass kicked… by the man himself before security catches me.

I guess that’s just how I feel about how things are on that sideline.

I agree that Demeco may be more of a player's coach than I anticipated him to be. I think comparing him to Jason Garrett is apples to oranges. Demeco calls the defense and has turned that unit into one of the best in the NFL. I think some want him to hammer Slowik but like some stated previously, we have no ideas what goes on behind the scenes. I also think this is the new breed of young coaches. Not everyone has that old school Saban approach and nor does that work for everyone(players) anymore. Should there be an edge, yes! Do I think Demeco has improved this orginzation, without question. Garrett was a yes man. Demeco is still in the process of molding this franchise into his vision for it. Trust the process. This is only year two..

That’s why Jerry Jones fired him after winning 2 Super Bowls because Johnson wanted to run the team as HE saw fit, refusing to be a Jerry Jones puppet!

So basically Coach deals with the coaches and he allows them to deal with the players.

He expects them to wanna be the best at their coaching position. He wants his players to do things the right way.

He also didn’t like all the chirping from Diggs and Tank. Said use that energy to catch a pass, blocking and etc.

I mentioned in a while ago... sooner or later we're going to have to have this discussion.

& the Texans have only been one & done once in their playoff history. One & done you don't win that first game.

He needs to start showing some passion and fire!

I couldn't care less for an overpaid cheer leader. He could be all Tom Landry for all I care, but these penalties shouldn't have got to where they are. Especially when the team/league leader isn't practicing & setting the tone like an all time great. The ineptitude of the OL should have been fixed after Minnesota, at the very least some adjustment to band-aid it, get your QB some time to get more than 86 yards an entire game.

That said, I'm not giving up on him yet. He's got time to get it fixed & this can still be a very, very good season for Texans fans. But I see what you're saying.

Demeco did not not deserve that kind of a thread title. Period.
Maybe not, but until Demeco does something to fix this O-Line and/or assist in pulling Slowicks head out of his butt, then some fans will continue to make those comparisons. These issues have not been addressed 7 games into the season. Watching him smile and clap on the sidelines while our offense looks so inept is infuriating.

I mentioned it in a different thread, but the comparison for me is Gary Kubiak not Garrett. Kubes was loyal to a fault with certain coaches and players. It hasn’t gotten to that point…yet. But I do see some mildly concerning things in that direction. It’s way way to soon to put those sorts of labels on him, but it’s something to keep an eye on as he matures as a coach. Still very happy Meco is here overall. Get back to me in 2026 or 27.

I would agree that even we’re at 5-2, those two losses have shattered our preseason expectations into a million pieces. From watching some other team’s performances, it’s obvious we’re not Super Bowl contenders. Not even close. It’s actually good thing we’re realizing it now.

But whatever Demeco does, or actions he takes, will be inside the house. As a former player, that is how he will handle it. But the way I’m seeing it, the main issue with this team cannot be resolved with a quick fix.

Ravens have allowed 3 more tds than the Texans. I guess they aren’t superbowl contenders either.
With a very good OL, and a running back that’s on track to break the all time rushing record, they pretty much are. I know there’s that old saying that defense wins championships, but all we got is an OL that’s gonna get the QB killed. It is what it is.

Fans in here going scorched earth b/c we’re not blowing teams out every week…Can’t believe this thread is still going. People thinking that this is their sons high school varsity team thinking Meco just needs to be up in these guys faces yelling & screaming to “let them know”…..or he needs to put his guys on blast in the media…yeah that’ll go over well.

The defense looked damn good last week considering they were down 4-5 starters. The offense does have some issues that I think he’s going to have to step in and force some changes and/or try something new with, but overall, they’re not beyond help b/c they have a guy under center who can get it done. Hell the week before they put up 40.

When we went 3-1 the 1st qtr of the season folks said that they would be happy/lucky if we went 2-2 the next 4 thinking for sure we’d lose the Buffalo game. Well we beat Buffalo and here we are with a realistic shot to be 3-1 for the 2nd qtr of the season having lost a nail biter to GB … the other team everyone was sure we’d lose to. We’ve lost 2 games..1 of which to a team that is surprising everyone right now.

Folks just need to calm down. It’s a long season.

I guess since I am a high school coach maybe Demeco's style resonates more with me, but I think again his approach is perfect for the modern day NFL player. Which, was rare especially for a defensive head coach. To me he is has handled a lot of the growing pains well. The organization has flipped from the bottom of the league to a contender in our division and our conference in two short years. The continuation of that is consistently winning the division and playoff games. That is in large part to the staff Meco put in place and the culture they are building. I think we are going to continue to see progress in the organization. We have all the right pieces for the foundation and the OL situation will improve in the offseason.

I may be misunderstanding this but the Texans have lost the Wildcard game twice. They are both burned in my memory.

2015 Wildcard Game - Chiefs 30 Texans 0 - L (the worst loss in Texans playoff history)
2018 Wildcard Game - Colts 21 Texans 7 - L (once again losing out to the damn Colts)

Ah yes, the birth of "Hoyerable" in 2015 .........and DW4's short lived ascension in 2018.

Anyone going to the game this Sunday? It'll be my first to attend. Any advice or tailgating or places to eat within NRG?
Read the Tailgating section, lots of good discussion there

Agree.

People didn’t expect the Texans to do so well. Now they are doing better but drop a game because of the Oline, OC, , dropped TD pass, and a last second field goal.

Now people want to go nuclear and say the HC isn’t worth a damn because on game day he doesn’t get angry enough at players.

A person is claiming the season is done because nothing can be fixed until the offseason.

We are 7 games into the season. We have 10 more games. Plus a bye week.

Y’all don’t think this team won’t get better through the season? Because they did last year.

And y’all are concerned your HC claps too much on the sideline?

Y’all make no sense.
