correctBut he's just a sophomore right? He couldn't declare for the draft even if he wanted to, right?

Says the guy who advocated for Tahj Boyd in the 2nd round, I will avoid your QB evaluations.
Have you watched him play?
Opposing defenses overwhelmed the PSU OL all season long. It is difficult for any QB to progress through reads when the DL rush gets to you in 2 seconds (even with three-man fronts). Difficult to complete passes when defensive lineman are in your wheel-house and your receivers have not made their breaks yet. Hackenburg's main problem is that his arm strength gets the best of him sometimes. He has a tendency to dial-up fastballs to his receivers on short routes. Hackenburg has as much talent as any QB in the draft. His arm strength is the best of any college QB in this draft and would be one the best in the NFL.I've done exactly that and I see a guy who holds the ball far to long and is slow to process information. When pressured his accuracy suffers greatly and becomes mistake prone.
Hack also takes a lot of 4 sec+ sacks too.Opposing defenses overwhelmed the PSU OL all season long. go right ahead, you got about 30 games to go....I've watched enough games to make a an informed decision. You want to break down his sacks and prove this theory?

I have watched studied a dozen Hack games, how many do you have to watch before you can make an informed decision?lol so generalized statements = informed decisions. ok

Right now you're just a headacheI would say that is enough to make a decision on his ability, but to say "he takes a lot of 4 sec+ sacks", without providing evidence or stats is pretty general. I could say he takes more sacks on days he gets less then 6.35 hours of sleep, but without proof whats it worth?
I promise, I really want to be your friend when this is all over.
Right now you're just a headache
Starting to get into prospect watching mode...
Just finished watching Hack against temple...
He looked awful.
Missed a lot of open guys. Didn't handle pressure well. Erratic with his throws. Some bad reads. Locked on to guys. Didn't look like he read the defense well and appeared to be late with many throws. Looked like they were playing 11 against 22.
Now all that can't be on Hack but he himself looked pretty awful.
Will watch more of him but initial inpression is that he's not very good.
I just watched the 7 minute hackenberg YouTube 2015 game with temple. I assume y'all are talking about that one, what was it 10 sacks. I don't know, that o-line was just horrible. It's hard to evaluate a QB in that environment. I must agree he definitely stared down primary receiver. I wouldn't call him shell shocked though, frustrated yes.

Some of those sacks he held the ball for maybe 3 or 4 seconds before getting taken down.
Oline wasn't great, but when looking at hack himself he didn't appear to get the ball out quickly and accurately when he got pressure.

Yep, and when he tries to speed up the decision making process the results were not very good.I just watched the 7 minute hackenberg YouTube 2015 game with temple. That's teachable tho isn't it? Fitz seemed to learn after being benched last year
You're no fun

Would this guy be getting any play around here but for the OB connection?
Regardless of what we think, he is a top 10 QB in this draft and we are in desperate need for a QB, so yes, like all the other QBs we are discussing, he would remain in our view.
Isn't that kind of like asking if anybody around here would be talking about Brian Hoyer if he played for another team?Would this guy be getting any play around here but for the OB connection?
I'm thinking 4 and lowerI actually don't fault some interest but this grade inflation that somehow just off OBs interest he might go top half of the 1st. That kind of thing. Dude looks like a 3rd rounder to me.

You say top 10 QB like it's a good thing. That's a 5th round to undrafted guy. Last year only 7 were drafted. The average is 11 QBs drafted each year over the last decade.
That Hackenberg has sucked horribly should be a potential negative. And don't you think that O'Brien should re-access his preference for players he has previously coached? It hasn't worked thus far. Maybe getting someone new and taking a fresh approach is the way to go?I just threw out a number, most draftniks have him in the top 5, my point was merely to point out we are in desperate need of a QB and we are discussing every potential QB, the fact he has a past with OB is a potential perk for him.

Deservedly or not, he has a 20 page (and counting) thread. So, yeah.Let me be clear, I am not saying that OB sticking to "his guys" is the right choice, I am simply saying that has been his MO, so having a lengthy discussion of the guy OB hand picked for Penn State only seems fair. Regardless of how you feel about Hack as a QB, he still deserves discussion based on his history with our head coach.
Hackenberg in the 1st would be a disaster, I was thinking more 3rd or 4th round, after we had already taken another QB earlier in the draft.
late 2nd? thoughts??I disagree that it would be a disaster. I think waiting until the 3rd or 4th to try and get him would be the disaster as Christian will not be available IMO. And who is this QB that you have drafted earlier?

I wouldn't take him in the 1st round, probably not even the second. I don't do interviews though and I am sure the interview is a big part of finding the right QB for your team. Hackenburg is broken right now, he needs to break old habits and learn new habits under new coaching. He's far from a start now guy, which pushes him even further down, further than his tape already does.
There are several QBs that are rated in the 1st or 2nd round. Goff will be out of reach, but Lynch, Wentz, and Cook would all be attainable. You might have to trade up for Lynch of Wentz, but they are still attainable.
