Carr asked to be released?

Danish Texan

Practice Squad
Hi

I just heard that David Carr should have asked to be released of his contract, but that the management almost certainly will pay him the 8 million option.

DO any of you know whether this is true, and what do you think of it?

sounds like a rumor. Nothing of that sort has been heard.

Management has definatly leaned towards paying him the money and keeping him 3 more years.

Where did you hear that? .....maybe at a UT Alumni BBQ?

Considering he is the starting QB for the Texans, is getting an extention, and is probably our QB of the future I don't see why he would do that.

This was the same thing I heard. McNairr loves him. Sorry VY.

Why would they give this guy $8 million dollars? If they don't want Young they better start looking for another QB that will be able to read defenses, not lock onto to one receiver all the way down the field, and take a sack at the first sign of pressure.

Management has definitely leaned towards paying him the money and keeping him 3 more years.
which would explain why they haven't done so YET :ok:

the contract is already written and it is simply a matter of the Texans organization sitting down with Carr and everyone signing on the dotted line, yet for some reason it hasn't happened YET, even though it very well COULD have already been done. Yeah, that DEFINITELY says they are committed to Carr............NOT.

They haven't given him anything else in the past four years, maybe they should start with the 8 mil. And when the play-calling is, "Look for _X_, and if he's defended, then dump it off," what is he supposed to do? Throw it to Gaffney when he isn't looking, throw it to Bradord, AJ, who have a better chance of dropping it rather than catching it? Jeez.

Actually, they have paid him $21.75 million dollars since he's been here. In real money.

Hi again

It was the leading NFL source in Denmark, a site called DraftDay which told the rumor Carr had asked to be released of his contract, but the management most likely would keep him.

I don't know where they heard it, but I'll try to find out.

I haven't heard anything. I don't think it's true, because I can't imagine why David would want out at this point.

1. If that was true, it would probably be all over the news by now.
2. If that was true, I have no idea why our front office would want to keep a player here who doesn't want to be here and then pay him millions to be here.
3. If that was true, I have a feeling our front office would tell Carr to have a nice life and draft Young with the 1st pick.

I'm talking about on the field. That 21.75 million went to his physical therapy after getting his butt handed to him for four years.

if he would learn how to play football at the NFL level of play he wouldn't get his butt handed to him.

I actually hope this rumor is true, but I haven't heard anything about it at all over here DanishTexan.

I would think that it would be a win-win situation for all concerned actually. Carr moves on and the Texans get a QB who is actually capable of running an NFL offense. Well, win-win for everyone other than the next Head Coach/ Offensive Coordinator who is dumb enough to actually try and make Carr his starter.

VY is going to be a poor mans Vick. We all have seen how well Vick has done in the NFL when he has to pass. VY would be going from one of the best o-lines any QB could play behind to the worst group of misfits o-line, in comparison to their respective levels. Besides that, VY did nothing but zone-read his entire college career. I could probably count on one hand how many times VY went under center. Zone-read QBs don't translate well into the NFL, with my best example being Alex Smith. It took him playing the worst D in the league (krap...that was the Texans) to throw his first TD. Now, I think VY is twice the athlete Smith is, but i doubt VY will be a good "QB."

who said anything about Vince Young being the next QB? I said I was tired of smelling the stink in the air at Reliant Stadium every time I see Carr on the field acting like he belongs on an NFL team.

Heck I would be happy with Banks playing instead of Carr. Last time I checked Banks had a better win percentage as a Texan than Carr anyway. Oh wait, dang that totally ruins the 'its the O-lines fault' argument for all the ostrich headed Carr fans, don't it. Banks comes in and plays with the same O-line and gets some wins. Carr?? Well he gets another 'get out of jail free' card for his poor playing yet again and walks off the field a LOSER. AGAIN.

Right now I truly believe that just about ANY backup QB in the NFL could accomplish what Carr is doing, if not improve dramatically on it. Whats the worse they could do, lose 15 games in a season? I doubt it.

thegr8fan said:

What else is VY going to play...o-line? Well wait, if he can block longer than McKinney, go ahead and draft him. I'll support it.

Flat out false, regarding Carr leaving. Carr likes Houston and wants to stay here, he has publicly stated as much numerous times and I have it on extremely reliable and accurate, inside authority that he means it.

As far as management paying him the option, they have given every indication that they intend to do so. Of course, there are those on this board who will tell you that this is some variety of "smokescreen" tactic, all part of a bigger conspiracy to deal him and pick up Young. I call BS.

Carr will be here next year, hate him or love him.

As for Banks? I would rather have Carr and Pendry nickel and dime it down the field than watch Banks throw some wild pass right into the DB's hands (see 49ers game.) Carr plays too conservative, but that's still worlds better than handing the ball off to the opposing defense.

What else is VY going to play
I'd vote for bench warmer for at least a year.

Carr most probably will be here yet another year. Nothing would make me happier, especially if Young is sitting and learning from the sidelines for that year. Perhaps even getting into the game late when the other teams second string Defense in on the field due to Carr losing yet another game 48-0 at halftime. Just so Young can get a feel for the game and its speed, mind you, not to make a comeback.

I mean if Carr wants to take the snaps for yet another year and show everyone that it wasn't Palmer, or the Coaching, or the poor O-line, or the sunny day, or the green grass, but it was actually HIM that played so poorly and lost yet another game, I am ok with that. In fact I would love it. Cause even after we get an entire new coaching staff and everything that entails, Carr is still going to be Carr and is still going to get himself sacked multiple times. All on his own.

trust me when I tell you nothing would make me happier.

Young is going to be a poor man's Vick..lol. I think it will be the other way around. Carr is already a poor man's Bubby Brister. :)

I doubt Vince Young will be a good QB. He's going to be a great QB who will be playing in Superbowls. Probably will not be with the texans. Vince young has great leadership. OH but he has a wierd release, he has not gone under center, etc. Thats all bs stuff, just pick someone who can get the job done and vince young can get the job done.

We have to remember that Europe is much more advanced than us. If the news release had been from France then we could take it to the bank. I love it when breaking NFL news comes from Denmark. If it is true then I'll be interested in the source for future info.:pigfly:

I guess I was crazy enough to actually check the site. Wasn't in English, but I didn't see David Carr's name in any of the reports. I did see a bunch of reports that sourced US media outlets. It looks like they don't know anything we don't.

Dude, didn't you know that the Danes have always had their finger on the pulse of the NFL? At spring training for every team, the players can get a Danish with their breakfast... coincidence? I don't think so... what's next Tuborg beer?
You can trust me on this... I was stationed in Greenland in the AirForce, and Denmark owns Greenland...
Heck, based on that connection, I'm suprised I didn't already know that Carr was, is, has, should ask(ing) for his release...

What did I say? read it again if you couldnt quite comprehend it the first time.

We have definitely leaned towards paying him.

Did I say we had paid him? no
Did I say we were going to pay him? no
Did I say we would be wrong to pay him? no (though we would)

I said that management has definitely leaned towards paying him. And considering that they have come out and said "we WILL be re-signing Carr to the 3 year extension".. id say that that is a pretty accurate freaking statement.

www.draftday.dk

I am sick enough that I put the site in a Danish-English translation thingy to read it. Didn't work so well.

Here's an example of a story, probably not the one our Danish friend was talking about:

http://www.draftday.dk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2062&Itemid=39

"ESPN: Texans tager Bush!

Not that I can read Danish, but I didn't see the article that our Danish fan was talking about. Maybe understanding the language would help, but I have a hard enough time with English sometimes.

Well, I guess, it is good that the Texans are in the news, I suppose.

I don't care how much Carr or anybody else thinks McNair loves the QB, we're all about to find out how much more he loves that dollar green. Once he drafts VY the Texans will become the most popular team in TX, jersey sales will be ridiculous and the Reliant will sell out every weekend...

Sir, please step away from the QB analogies. You might injure yourself. :) A while back you compared VY to Akili Smith, then you backed off of that, and today as a poor man's Vick???

??????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think a case can be made that VY cannot be compared properly to any QB college prospect, and certainly, there is nothing to suggest that he will be a poor man's Vick based on either your eyes or just plain ole stats:

Vince Young (last college season), Drafted ???? 6’ 5” 230 lbs

3036 passing yards
65.2 completion percentage
325 attempts for 212 completions, 9.3 av yards per attempt
26 passing TDs with 10 INTs
155 rushes for 1050 yards, 6.8 av yards per attempt, 12 rushing TDs

Mike Vick (last college season), Drafted 1st, 6’0”, 214 lbs

1439 passing yards
54.19 completion percentage
179 attempts for 97 completions, 8.0 av yards per attempt
9 passing TDs with 7 INTs
113 rushes for 636 yards, 5.6 av yards per attempt, 9 rushing TDs

The stats are not similar and their physical size is dissimilar. They are both QBs and both have more melanin than some, but I guess the only way he can be a "Poor Man's Vick" is that he has less money than him.

You know, reasonable people can disagree with whatever the choice for the #1 pick is, and all choices have their pros and cons, but there is no need to get outrageous in what you say about the situation.

(Just as an aside, I wonder what happened to all those people who said VY was going to struggle in 2005 because his experienced receiver corp went away and was replaced with new guys.....shhhhh....that doesn't support the silly VY is bad argument so it can't be expressed out loud).

I'm guessing that a lot of ticket brokers aren't going to be renewing their less-than-premium season tickets, and that's going to cause the problem. They must have lost a lot of money this year on the 600s.

Also, the family next to us is almost definitely choosing not to renew next year. It's very difficult to renew, even with hope, when you feel like you didn't get decent value for your financial commitment.

It has nothing to do with that article - It was stated in their weekly podcast, which also is in danish.

The article you found is from the news section, referring to Chris Mortensen of ESPN claiming Texans allready had decided to draft Reggie Bush.

I just chatted with the author, and he said he read the romour on NFL.com a couple of weeks ago.

Funny you should mention Brister.......

This is off topic but...My Boss' brother roofs houses for a living. The other day he was putting a new roof on Brister's house when Bubby got a call. The call was from the Texans future head coach (Kubes). from what I was told Brister was aked if he would be interested in being QB coach if Kubes got the job.

Take for what it's worth. We'll see how the new staff shapes up during the off season.

They aren't going to sign him to anything until Kubiak has had some time here to get a thorough evaluation of the team.

Which means that Denver needs to hurry up and lose already.
