British Brooks

Does this guy have any Leach qualities?? I saw him blow up a few mofos in the preseason
I can’t remember the player or the time stamp but he absolutely leveled a Rams DT on a run play and then acknowledged his work after laying the guy out. For a backup HB that’s learning FB, laying out a DT, regardless of that guys place on the depth chart for the Rams showed me a willingness and nastiness to do what needs to be done.

British Brooks just adds a different dimension to the room, a room that has holes & opportunity. Now let’s see him go out there and run Slowick scheme as complementary back for Mixon & Akers.

Agreed.

I thought he was the only player that showed real high level upside to play FB in this offense.

And he fits more of the role of how they use the FB in san francisco...which is the FB doesnt actually spend a lot of time lined up in the traditional FB position.

Those days are long gone. In today's NFL, fullbacks know their only ticket to a roster spot involves proving that they can do a little bit of everything.

In 2023, only 12 teams have used a fullback for offensive snaps. Only 10 have played more than 10% of those offensive snaps. Talk of the fullback going the way of the Dodo bird has loomed for the better part of the past decade.

"It's in danger if you're just a traditional fullback," 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said. "it's really hard if you're a fullback who can only line up in the fullback position because how many plays are you going to do with them? ... That's why guys have to be versatile."

Juszczyk averages 9.6 snaps per game at running back, 12 snaps per game at tight end, 3.9 snaps per game at outside receiver, 3.1 snaps per game at slot receiver and has even taken a pair of snaps at quarterback. Ingold is the only other fullback to take snaps at all of those spots, and Juszczyk runs 11.1 routes per game, three-plus more than any other fullback.

Juszczyk's value isn't just his down-to-down versatility, it's his utility within each down. On any given play, he might be lined up at fullback in an I-formation and end up as an outside receiver or vice versa.

This season, Juszczyk has been in motion on 41.6% of his snaps, the second-most among players who have played at least 100 offensive snaps. That's been a theme of his nearly seven seasons in San Francisco, as he's been in motion on 1,015 snaps, fourth-most of any NFL player in that span.

I saw some of that potential with Brooks. Not quite in the same mold, but a lot of versatility still. Im not surprised that as of now hes made the 53 over the options that were here.

if that was the block on the backside of Akers’ (man I’m so happy for this Houstonian) big run I saw him cut a defender in half. Dude went down in two pieces,
Lol.

Please forgive the quality because I plucked this off of someone who screen recorded it on their phone. This is the play I’m referencing. Enjoy!

Great vid. I saw it from a different angle and it was still outstanding. Thanks for this shot! This dude exemplifies the new Texans! But Was the Akers run?

actually I think this was the same play. What a fricken block! Great other angle vid! The game vid was from behind BB. Edit. Wait was this the Akers run? Akers run went to the right. Did BB destroy two different defenders on two different plays?

I think he did haha. I’ll try to find it eventually but don’t have the time to sift for the video at the moment. I had this one handy just had to find a way to get it posted and a quick gif was my method.

Was rewatching the highlights and found another Brooks highlight of him bringing some pain to the defender. I am trying to stay as unbiased and level headed as possible, but Brooks does look more and more intriguing the more I focus on him. I will say, if I’m a safety or corner or smaller linebacker, meeting him for a tackle or block he’s making will come with some business decisions.

I'd really rather see him develop as a RB more than a FB. I liked the idea to use him as a FB to get him on the roster, but I didn't think he'd be the "only" FB on the roster.

He looks like he can be the guy we though Pierce was going to be.

Perfect execution at a new position where the talent level on D was a non factor. Good chip block standing up a rusher then catch of a not well thrown ball where he had to keep his balance and still get great yards after the catch with added carnage when tackled. He forced a roster spot on that one play IMO. Great vid.

I don't agree.

Look at pre-season throughout the years.

Look at the yards per carry guys on every team for all the games. Especially the players in these depth roles getting snaps against non-NFL players like Brooks has. They will not all get those same yards per carry being moved up the depth chart. The holes actually aren't the same when the d-line is significantly better and the opportunity for more yards is significantly worsened when the LBs and Safeties are significantly faster, stronger, and smarter.

It doesn't mean he can't do it, but acting like it's fully transferable is nonsense.
It isn't transferable. But the 1st team OL should be better blockers than the 2nd team OL BB has been running behind.

I personally think most teams' d-lines are better run players as they move up the depth chart than our o-line is as run blockers as we move up the depth chart.

As pass blockers there's no question about the talent as we move up the depth chart.

He was on the PS until week 11. Didn't get a carry until week 14
Arion Fosters situation is not exactly the same as British Brooks but they both impressed enough to make the team as UDFA's. I don't get the dislike some have for British Brooks. I hope now that he has made the team the haters will end their hate and get behind him.

Neither did Ryans/Caserio.
He (Beck) looked incredible by this time last year. Throughout camp and preseason he looked like he was going to be a big safety blanket for Stroud checkdowns and could provide mismatch ability and then the season started and it never materialized.

I was responding to your comment that AF didn't spend long on the PS

He's never looked incredible in his life. IMHO

They still haven't gotten behind Tunsil or Mills, I doubt they get behind BB.

Indecent exposure? :spy:
Bruh.
He looked pretty incredible on that Kick off TD return last year. Dude was cooking.
Lol.. no he didn't lol.. he looked like a man that accidentally did a thing and then ran for his life... it was still an awesome moment though

That's not looking awesome.. that's just an oh **** moment that turned into something great

I wouldnt think of him as a "FB". Hes really a RB utility player that will be asked to lead block and do other stuff...which, short and long term is probably going to be more valuable to the team if he can carve out that role.

That play was a "No... no! NO! Yes? Yes. YES!" play.

Him falling that far back and cutting off the returner was a mistake. Trying to field the ball was a mistake. Muffing it was a mistake. Recovering from those mistakes to run it back for a TD made up for it, but he should NEVER have even tried to handle that ball.

Beck wasn’t good and has injury concerns. Not upset in the least. I’m excited about BB although I felt they would probably try to release him and then sign him to the PS to get a little more seasoning. If they trust him… I certainly do. I see him in a flex role, FB probably first duty, but Hback, and lead RB at times as well. He gives this offense even more flexibilit. Excited to see how he progresses as the season moves on.

Who are "they" exactly. I'm very much behind this dude right now. He deserves to make the team.
Generally any poster who didn't, doesn't like how Caserio rebuilt the team, or that he kept Tunsil instead of trading him away for a late 1st, early 2nd rd pick.

Lucky, TK, Tex, Beerlover etc.... there were many more. Heck, Lucky is still critical of the job Caserio is currently doing

Just a few members and that’s it. And Mills is just a back up and clearly the OP is still mad about it. Didn’t think Mills got a fair shake.

Nobody is complaining about BB making the team.
Who's mad about Mills being the backup? There are some that don't even want Mills as the backup. Speedy' s spreadsheet told him this. Porky etc....

Some have come around and have accepted that Caserio had the right vision and those 2 yrs of suffering were worth it.

Mills appears to be getting better with every opportunity. I believe he’s benefitting b/c he’s with the same staff and offensive system for consecutive seasons for the first time in his Texans career. Also, he’s finally got offensive weapons he could’ve only dreamed of in his first two seasons…so I’m happy with his growth and think the Texans will be better for keeping him with the team.

Yep, I was just calling out the BS that some would rather Mills be the starting QB. That couldn't be further from the truth.
