Ob may or not be on a leash. Imo the timeline here is the Watson contract. You have 2 do everything possible while hes on the rookie contract.
I'm not so sure that's the timeline. He only has one more year on that contract and its fairly likely they try to extend / negotiate a new deal before he plays that final year.
Its scary because he's probably going to get in the neighborhood of 30m in the first year of a new deal and increase over the course of it.
Is he the problem or is it OB ? Really so far its a combination of the two , Watson missing open guys and OB not tailoring a system to his strengths.
Watson is at his best when he's off script , asking him to stand in the pocket and pick a defense apart is like putting a square peg in a round hole. He aint that guy.
There's no doubt that Watson is a gifted athlete and a pretty good QB despite his flaws there's two questions you have to ask - Is he good enough to win it all and is OB the guy that's going to get the best out of him (I think we've already answered this one).
If you think he's good enough , you gotta move on from OB and bring in a coach who is willing to tailor an offense around Watson rather than running "His System".
If you come to the conclusion he's not good enough …. what do you do ? Giving him $30m per sure doesn't seem like the answer. How do you move on ?
I think the odds are that Watson would stay over OB ...then again , this is Cletus McNair we're talking about and TBH he's a complete unknown so far. There's no telling what will happen.
I'd really like to see Watson with another coach before handing him $150m.
