All Encompassing Case Keenum Thread

Keenum had early success before he was on tape. Now that's he's on tape teams have taken away his deep ball weapon. He's not accurate enough within 10 yards to be a good NFL QB. I wanted him to succeed, but he has regressed over the last few weeks.

He was put in a tough position as a backup, but he's been given ample time to show what he's got. And it isnt' starting NFL material.

I'm still willing to let Keenum finish out the year and come back next year to compete but it's pretty clear that the more tape teams get on the him the worse the results get.

He has not improved in any single way since his first start. Next year's staring QB is not on the team right now, IMO.
What's the point? He hasn't got it. He won't amount to anything in the NFL. After these last 8 starts (or whatever it's been) I'm convinced of one thing.

The Texans need to find a starter & a back up for the 2014 season. I pray to God our 1st round pick turns into a franchise QB, but I hope the Texans are smart, like the Redskins & the Eagles (or even the Seahawks) & not put all their eggs in the one basket.

I'm also convinced McNair was pissed at Kubiak for trying to screw up the #1 pick. His, "Want to see what Case has got." talk is a smokescreen. He has to know we have no chance of winning with Case Keenum in the game.

None. It may not all be his fault. The defense can't stop no one. His line isn't helping him. & no one is giving 100%. But Case is a joke. David Carr was better as a rookie.

And this is why I wanted him to start until the end. To see what we had with him. Well we pretty much know now.

Told people not to expect much more from him 2-3 weeks ago after the Arizona game i believe...

& Anybody being seriously objective when watching him could see that he likely wasnt the guy after about 3-4 games....i didnt need these last few games or the next 2 to come to that conclusion.

with this performance he might've just played himself out of even back up qb material.

I'm glad we gave Keenum the opportunity to audition for the starting QB role. Now that he's proven he'll never be an effective NFL QB we can move on. At least our new HC won't be handcuffed to QB-failure like Kubiak was. I had nightmares over history repeating itself.

he'll be a good backup
Why?

A good back-up needs to be able to come off the bench & pick-up the game where ever it may be. He's got to be able to protect a lead, keep his team on the field... I haven't seen him do that. He's got to be able to come from behind & give his team a chance to win... I haven't seen him do that.

What's really frustrating, is that we've got another young guy on the bench who has shown to be able to do just that & he's burried behind the Savior & Matt Schaub.

while he hasn't shown enough to be a franchise qb for the next 10+ years he still has room to grow. i mean there are some pretty ****ty backups in the league who have less potential.

I don't think it's the tape. I think it's the hits.

These DCs aren't doing anything exotic to beat him. It's basic stuff.

Our coaches don't have any faith in him. We were down 20(something silly) to 3 early in the 3rd & never came out with a hurry up offense. They knew they couldn't bench him & go to the QB who can run a hurry up (or they'll lose their job sooner than they're ready for) & they decided to run the ball more.

There will be half a dozen new UDFA QBs coming out next year with more upside... why waist our time with Keenum?

If he wants to stay in the NFL he needs to start trying to be the next Danny Woodhead.

I've seen Tj protect a lead. I've seen Tj come from behind to win.

I'm not wanting him to start next season, I just want to see a QB who gives us a chance to win play next week & the week after. Be it Matt Schaub or Tj Yates.

You've seen a true elite defense protect a lead. you've seen TJ nut up in the playoffs and throw 3 INTS.

dont try to convince yourself he gives this team any better chance at a victory. Schaub is Yates and Yates is Keenum. They are all the same QB.

how ironic that schaub is still the best qb on this roster.

keep him on the bench tho. that #1 draft pick (and kubiak gettin fired) is the only thing to make this season worth something

who does he have to teach him the ropes? the ropes he is now pulling are bringing him down not up.
Who mentored Wilson, Luck, RG3, Kaep, Newton?

If he didn't learn not to stare down a WR or take a 20 yard sack in his SIX YEARS as a college QB, nothing will.

Not really. You might as well play 10 guys on offense (no QB) in the second half, if you're going to have Case in the game. Matt or Tj might do something to keep our offense on the field, allowing our Defense to protect a lead.

& Tj may have thrown INTs in a play-off game, but he made a play in the second half of the Atlanta game to help get us to the play-offs in the first place.

Being one of the huge Case supporters from the beginning, even I'm losing faith. He looked better 3 or 4 games ago than he does now. It didn't take the Texans long to turn him into David Carr. What a shame.

Patriots game gave me a little hope that he was improving, but he is really looking like a backup. Still early in a young QBs career though. It just sucks that this draft has Bridgewater as the best qb. Even when we suck, it can't be in the right year.

There are free agent QBs available until they feel like they can get a franchise QB. I'm okay with Bridgewater if they honestly think he's a franchise guy, I just don't want them drafting a QB out of need.

Whoever they pick #1 has to be a franchise player, whether it's a OLB, DE or a QB. I don't think it's Bridgewater but picking the future of draft picks is not my specialty.

Case just looks worse and worse. I still think he's a backup and may have some potential as something else, but whatever is going on right now is not working.

I think your memory of TJ is a little rosy. TJ had the best defense in the NFL and a very good running game behind him two years. There was very little indication he was a starter since then.

I was always a big fan of Schaub's but there is a reason why Case was put in to begin with. He lost his confidence and it severly affected his game.

There really isn't a QB controversy anymore. There just isn't the future starter on the team right now.

BUENO!
I'm of the opinion that it's over for Case. Nobody really cares who starts the last two defeats of the 2013 season so sure, let him go out there and try. It's not like we're really paying that much attention anymore.

I think half this roster needs to be flushed and the coaching "brain trust" has to go. It's all come apart now. I don't think very many if any of the current coaches should be here next year. Their redemption isn't in Houston. Vic Fangio left here when Capers was fired with all of us trashing him for the inept defense he fielded. Now he's the guy running San Francisco's D and being lauded for the job he's doing.

It's not them. It's the Texans. They're broken in a universal sense. Bob McNair is going to be that owner who means well, wants to win, but just doesn't know how to do it. There have been more than a few guys like that in the NFL over the decades and a number of them never figure it out.

We're ****ed people. We got another team that's messed up (just this time with a whole different set of issues).

Agreed, BUT I think it comes down to a head coach. get a guy in here who is a winner, been relevant this decade, and comes from a winning background. No matter how you slice it, we have talent on this team. They are unfocused, undisciplined, and just lost. We need a defensive guy with a no bull**** attitude to come in here and right the ship. We need to fill a few holes on defense, offense and add depth. I think we will be competitive next season, but should aim for 2015 to our year. Similar to what Seattle did last year then are favorites this year.

Hey, cool, Dan Orlovsky and Rex Grossman are free agents! Sign 'em Rick!

There are several QB free agents on that list that are better than the three we got now. Are they good enough to help rebuild the team until we finally get ourselves a franchise QB? They could be, depending on the new head coach. There are just a ton of things that can happen this off season. It should be interesting.

Post all these links to these concerns please. i've found one or two articles that cite his hand size and use of gloves as a concern. Durability? C'mon dude, if anything he's showing toughness out there, give me a break. Touch and ball placement? HAHA he's like 70% completion with beautiful touch, what in the hell are you and those professionals smoking? I need some for New Years, no doubt!
The opposition complaint has been addressed ad nauseum. Recognize blitz? Adjust? Wow, so he's not at the line adjusting blocking assignments right? Its not his fault his offensive line is a sieve. Back shoulder drops? LOL the kid has perfect mechanics out of the snap, and his intermediate passing game is unparalleled to have to critique his deep ball.

Im not trying to change minds, if Teddy decides to come out the combine will sort all this out. This is arguing with a wall, eomplete waste of time.
Here is just one and research on your part rather than just throwing out barbs gets you same as it did me. I not only watch players but research other respected (and some not so respected [Bleacher report]) to get others opinions. Link http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/players/1825122/teddy-bridgewater

"WEAKNESSES: Although quick, Bridgewater has a lower than ideal release point with the ball shooting passed his ear. Some durability concerns after all the hits he has taken over his career, specifically to his wrist and ankle.

Room to improve his touch and ball placement on downfield throws."

Rico most everyone recognizes TB is very accurate with short passes but often throws wide downfield as I said earlier. Yes he show toughess but not more so than Manziel who keeps getting up off ground and coming back. There exists concerns for both over how beaten up their body is. TB's is on his throwing hand. If you give Bridgewater a break for his "sieve" of an oline, then you must do same for Keenum and Schaub for that matter.

I am not trying to trash him just evaluated fairly and state what I and others see. You can ignore that if you want but it is there. Can he do good in NFL? I say yes but I would not give the first pick for him.

We should sign Chad Henne if for no other reason than to keep him from carving us up twice a year.

Plus he plays really well in Reliant Stadium. Maybe we could get him to use that power for good instead of evil for a change.

I know you are joking but Henne is a good example of what is availabe. He's performing just like he always has and it is as bad as Schaub this year. We might as well just play OD at QB, bring in another RB and try to set the single season rushing record.

Keenum hasn't progressed on bit in 8 games. He's actually gotten worse.

What upsets me is McNair forcing an already failed QB experience on us for the remainder of the season. If he truly wanted to win he'd sit the kid. TJ and Schaub give us a better chance to win (got a headache just typing that).

McNair's either infatuated with Keenum or he's letting the UH/Keenum club see how bad he really is so there won't be Keenums calling for Keenum to start in the future.

I don't believe that's entirely out of the question. In some ways McNair is kind of a dumbass but I think this is well within his capabilities. I think he's got Wade Phillips falling on his sword over these last three games for much the same reason. he's letting these guys make his future decisions easier.

I have no issues with McNair having Keenum play. The simple truth is Yates is not the future and Schaub has no future. So it makes sense to get a definitive answer on Keenum as well so the book can be closed and the franchise can begin moving onto that next step. At this point I don't see much harm in that. It probably will lead to a bit of a house cleaning...or so I hope.

As for Keenum, he has some ability but as I said a last week I think he's just a backup quarterback and nothing more at this point. Not someone you put your future on. He holds the ball way too long and is obviously having issues reading a defense. Yes, he's young and needs to develop that but if you have possibly the number one pick in the draft you really don't have time to see if a question mark can develop or not. He either proves it now or a quarterback most likely is chosen with that top pick. Fair? Probably not. It's just the reality of the situation. It's an opportunity a franchise just can't let slip away.

Ehh, i don't think McNair is nearly as perceptive & conniving as people here think he is....I just think he's really careful with his decisions; A guy who relies too heavily at times on the advice of those closest to him & those he has put in position to validate what he may be already thinking. He's not a football guy & doesn't pretend to be.....unlike that twat upstate. It may make him a little too patient at times, but on the whole, I've got no problem with it.

How does all that factor into the Keenum saga? I just think that a few little birdies put it in his head that Keenum could be an answer, he was curious about it & realized that it couldn't hurt an already dismal season so he went for it...nothing more.

Your conclusion is right about McNair and Adams.

But Adams wasn't a bad guy, or mean guy, or anything of the like. He just wanted a new stadium, even if it were in another city.

As was noted on the NFL Network documentary on the '93 Oilers last week, had the Oilers beaten the Chiefs in the playoffs, he likely would have gotten it.

And there would be no Bud Light (McNair) and the Texans.
