I'd much prefer the Lions get all desperate-y and take a Pickett, Corral, or Willis and leave a stud like Thibodeaux for us to decide.

I don't know much about Bailey Zappe out of West. Kentucky but he threw some monster numbers this season.
What are the thoughts on this guy?
I'm thinking he is worth at least a 5th round shot for Texans...

I don't think Western Kentucky has run the ball 5 times in the last 10 years.

Short but, Smart accurate and throws with great anticipation. Avg but not weak arm. Great at reading defenses. Reminds me of Brees.

I eagerly began the college football season observing Kayvon Thibodeaux. Unfortunately I was not impressed and then even worse he was injured. Also if I remember correctly he missed a game or at least a part of game due to a targeting call Early in the season. I do know that I watched both the University of Washington and Washington State scheme him into basically ineffectiveness. There was one lesser-known college that he had a All Pro type game against a junior college. I have been extremely hopeful that the Detroit Lions would select him with their first round one pick. My review of many Mocks from many sources indicate he is beginning to lose his shine. I do think that he will have a monster combine and my hope will be fulfilled when Detroit selects him. I see him as a ClowneyType player who will not live up to the pre-draft hype. Most probably know that I am not a huge fan of Evan Neal either but again hope that the Jags select him.

I realize it wasn't asked but I am also unsure of Derek Stingley who has done little since his stratospheric freshman season of 6 INTs. I read an article saying he looked overwhelmed his last few games in 2020 against ranked teams. Unfortunately I lost that article and have been unable to find it. His injury from all reports I can find should be healed completely by beginning of the 2022 season. Is it a gamble that we should be willing to take? Stingley's ceiling in my opinion is very high. His floor is not clear IMO.
If Hutch is available he's my choice. If not I want trade down... Eagles?
Hey BB got soething for you on teh Draft, spcifically OLT prospects.
Ove th christmans weekend had a good convesaion with family membr, wifes grandson, who's frshman Aggie at theri Galvstoon branch but played offensive line in H.S., and this kid knows OLine ply an follows both colleg & NFL.
He says a significantly better OLT prosect than neal is Chrles Crosasa, Mississsipi LT wh'o moe athletic tahtn Neal aand vsw pass-pro as he sees Neal a more of a a rpoad-grader type RT.
Said this year Croos was much more effective agaians his Aggid tha n Neal. He 's go much more upside thatnb the 'Bama' guy.

I agree 100% with the grandson. Charles cross is in my opinion the best left tackle in the draft for 2022. He is able to mirror Defenders both bulrushers and speed. He has steadily over the season moved up from a mid second round pick to a possible top 12. I think we could get him with the Miami Dolphins trade if that goes through for Watson with the San Francisco 49ers pick at approximately 19 to 21. But don't tell Jags, I'm trying to convince them Neal is right guy for them.

I'm extremely disappointed in Campen moving Howard almost each Sunday..today back to LG.

a road grader is exactly what they need to get the run game going/better….so you know what my pick is. Neal can kick inside to guard, leave Howard at RT.

If I draft Neal at 1-3, I'm putting him at RT and drafting the biggest baddest dude I can find to play RG at 2-35. Then moving Howard to LG and keeping Tunsil at RT.

That's a good OL.

HC- Josh McDaniels
OC- Ben McDaniels

But Josh would really be the O.C. Ben and hopefully Pep would help with the QB's and game planning.

A dark horse candidate would be Kevin O'Connell.

Derrick Kinnard or Marquis Hayes.

Lindstrom from Boston College and Jurgens from Nebraska are 2 guys I really like. I also like Kramer from Illinois late in the draft.

Of course I love Linderbaum but wouldn't spend #3 on him.
Then let’s hope your man Caserio trades down, adds picks, but still with shot to draft best Offensive Linemen of 2022, Linderbaum, in best value/need scenario.

so you reach for other more “worthy” positions? No not buying that either. Everyone talks about trading down, but it takes 2 to tango and with no other can’t Miss prospects at the top of this draft, you go BPA. The mindset you’re advocating is why so many of these guys miss on otherwise good prospects. Every draft isn’t going to have clear cut, top flight guys that play positions worthy of being selected in those spots.

Sure was the case in last years draft. Frenzy of teams trying to move up then trading back manipulating other GM’s to gain draft capital with very basic strategies.

It’s been a lost art for Texans cultivating draft capital then applying it to the field. I get the whole positional value argument, franchise QB #1 elite edge #2 LT tie w/CB #3. At same time each draft class has varying degrees of depth from year to year every position. Then there are those glaring holes on your roster, lack of depth, special teams whatever.

Most prefer just to call it BPA. Just long as he fits system/culture with elite traits you covet and can develop, into a premium NFL player.

yeah…you had 2-3 top flight qbs including 1 thought to be the best prospect since Andrew Luck. Do you see any qb anywhere close to that level in this coming draft?
sorry phone died, just finished post.

regarding your question, I didn’t see none of the above from last years draft worth the picks given. Was more like a feeding frenzy, or trying to buy lumber now, lol but even so teams were eager to spend spend spend. This QB class is less celebrated now but just wait and watch how media builds them up all over again.

Matt Corral, Ol’ Miss 6-2 205
Kenny Picket, Pittsburg 6-3 219
Sam Howell, North Carolina 6-1 225

then you have some risers, depending upon how well they fit a QB needy team.

Desmond Ridder, Cincinnati 6-4 205
Malik Willis, Liberty 6-0 220
Carson Strong, Nevada 6-4 216

I could be interested in choosing another QB especially with extra picks from anticipated Watson trade despite Mills stellar play as of late. Texans need to maintain this healthy QB competition and it just adds value & depth to roster. I’ve always advocated drafting QB higher for the back-up role because strange things happen and you find yourself without one.

I just don’t believe you waste this opportunity to add a quality prospect at other need positions…or at the very least shore up other holes elsewhere b/c This team has so many holes. Furthermore Adding a prospect at any other position can’t do anything but help Mills, or whomever we wind up with at qb. I think it’s pretty obvious that the best & most immediate way to help move this team forward is to take 1 of these highly touted ol prospects at 3 or wherever we wind up in the top 5. Neal. Linderbaum..Green. I’m all in on either of these dudes. If it’s a non o-line guy..Hamilton please.

This is an early example of what I was talking about, QB moving up higher, driven by media, than warranted-

no doubt a lot of that is going to happen….b/c it happens every year….but most teams still on average dont trade all the way up into the top 5 b/c it’s too costly. Then when you add in the fact that there will be potentially 3 proven franchise guys in Rodgers, Wilson and DW4 available for trade…( not to mention others who could be up traded…Carr/Jimmy G) it really becomes cost prohibitive for these teams to throw away draft capital to move up in the draft for guys that haven’t played a down in the NFL.

Likely….there’s always at least 1…but I don’t know if the Texans can afford to slide out of the top 5-8 range. This draft is projecting to be top heavy.
Depends on what Caserio thinks of Linderbaum/Green etc....

If a couple of QB's get picked in the top 8-10 that leaves 6 or 7 top position players available. For instance is there that much difference between Linderbaum/Green/ Charles Cross than Neal? Is there that much difference between Ojabo and Thibodeaux or Booth/Stingley?

If you can trade down this is the draft to do it.

Hamilton is my choice... safest pick in the draft
Unless we trade down, then either Green,Linderbaum or Devin Lloyd
If both are healthy and both hae been injured then give me Stingley.

Stingley = Champ Bailey
Hamilton = Sean Taylor

Injury evals will be the key.

Not only will those options (Rodgers, Wilson or even DW4) cost significant draft capital, will also cost a huge chunk of cap space. Teams without cap space will jump on those rookie 5-year low-cost options, which makes them more attractive.
So many dont realize that the key to building a complete team is the amount of cap space that your QB takes up. the minute a QB is drafted you have around a 7 yr window to win a championship before the QB's cap hit keeps you from being able to put quality talent around the QB.

it somewhat balances out the risk, but not completely. It also depends on how close those teams feel they are to contending and what else they have…I.e. extra picks…all told this reduces the number of teams that would be willing to move up there. I’m not ruling out a trade down scenario with the Texans, I just think it’s mostly wishful thinking on fans’ part.

Every year a few of you guys pull out scenarios of moving down to get this extra draft capital…..or in the case of 2019, moving up to get this particular prospect and every year it doesn’t happen…b/c on the whole it doesn’t really happen that often.

If there are multiple stud QB's in play trades happen.

This isn't the yr I see a bunch of trades happening. But I've been wrong before. Look at what the 49ers and Dolphins did last yr. The 2019 draft I expected a bunch of trades to happen since 3 QB's were in play and there were no trades.

It happened just this year's draft ...

So it could happen in 2022 for Houston.

I'd be just as happy with Booth from Clemson or Elam from Fla.

Probably will go D lineman though. Could Leal or Karlaftis last till mid to late first round?

I really like Booth alot too. Elam not so much.

I do think Leal in particular could fall. Alot depends on his combine workout. If he tears it up he probably goes in the top 10. I see Karlaftis as an 8-15 type guy.

I'm liking Mario Goodrich from Clemson.

If he wasn't part of the Clemson trash I would pick him.

Goodrich just caused a game winning fumble for the Clemson Trash. Dude's a player and I haven't seen him rated anywhere.

This is Goodrich's 1st year as a starter. He's played behind some really top notch CBs at Clemson. Goodrich has a Senior Bowl invite, so he has eyes on him. That and his combine* performance will determine if Goodrich can move into the 2nd day.

*If there is a combine

Less than 1/3 of these posts concern Thibodeaux? I'm going to find these non-Thibodeaux posts a new home.

The lack of a combine is going to make the Sr. Bowl that much more important again this yr.

Sorry for messing up the Thibodeaux thread. Thanks for fixing it.

I don't want to put this forth in the fire Culley thread. But, one reason that could keep the Texans from axing Culley is the opportunity to coach the Senior Bowl. I think Caserio would like to get down on the field and in the meeting rooms with these prospects. That won't happen if the Texans are trying to hire a new HC and bring in a new staff.

That's a good OL.
Just did a two round simulator and traded down from 3 to 11 (Denver) got their 1st and 2nd plus next years 3rd. Selected -

Biggest baddest OG #11 Keynon Green Texas A&M.
A first round CB #35 Martin Emerson Mississippi State
w/Broncos 2nd Darian Kinnard OT Kentucky,

That’s a couple nasty O’linemen that enjoy finishing plays and elite CB talent. Plus that extra 3rd 2023.

This is what I'm talking about.

If Caserio comes up with this and an above avg RB in this draft I would be very happy. Fixing the OL and adding speed to the secondary would make great building blocks for the future. Not a sexy draft but a foundational type draft. Add in a FA class with 3-4 more solid contributors and a good 2023 draft class and you've got something going on down on Kirby. Provided Mills continues to improve.

Maybe we can talk the Giants into trading up with us to take Neal. With their two picks in the 1st, we could get OT Cross, and C Linderbaum. That would go a long way towards fixing our OLine.
I would certainly be on board with this.

Even if the NYG gave up #5 and a 2nd I would be on board.

I would probably pick Hamilton at 5 and Gardner at 6. Keep Tunsil and finish out the OL with the 2nd rd picks.

If this trade was made.

Rd.1 Hamilton
Rd.1 Gardener
Rd.2 Kinnard
Rd.2 Zion Johnson
Rd. 3 Charbonnet
Rd.3 Goodrich III

Yep, I would love this.

Fix the secondary with stud talent and Fix the OL, plus find a stud RB.
