Al Shaair Suspension

If you come over, you could eat off the floor. That is my standard for MY home. But it wouldn't bother me if I come to your home and it's messy and seems like it needs a good clean. That's YOUR issue...not mine. I want "my guys" to be the standard bearers, not the laggards when it comes to playing clean, solid football.

Lastly, I'll be honest and say I don't remember who the player was, nor do I know his history. Does he have a lot of history of illegal hits? If not, and he lacks history and knowing it's not a blow to the head...I'm going to give him more grace than a "headhunter" no matter which team. Berfect? Hated that guy. Total headhunter. He was always in trouble. We don't need "that guy" on this team. I don't think Azees if Berfect...yet. But he needs to nip it in the bud and not become Berfect.

In short, we need a well-coached, disciplined team that isn't 2nd most in penalties and likely gaining a poor reputation - basically asking for more scrutiny from the league and the refs, likely provoking even more flags. That's not a winning formula. Let's be above the fray, play clean, play hard, and play physical but not pushing the envelope and going after guy's heads. That's uncalled for and is why Azeez is paying the price he is.

I don’t care that it was a new rule, it was dirty and should’ve warranted a 2-3 game suspension period. And like I said why wasn’t you two, especially DJ flooding this forum about that hit? Yall two going on and on about Al and for what? We heard yall two loud and darn clear. The crap has reached that point of no return. Why because you two are on here belittling folks and crapping all over a player who plays for your team.

What’s crazy to me is you two are not trying to understand other people viewpoints. Even when we’ve posted ex-players who played this game on this level. Or coaches who coached on this level point of views. You two refutes it instead of saying, you know I can see why they’re saying what they’re saying.

And as I said, I’m ready to move on with grace for Azeez I’m allowed to have an opinion different from yours. I’ve explained my position 6 ways from Sunday. Feel free to disagree.

And that type of hit has been allowed for decades on the quarterbacks too. It’s freaking football.

Apples and oranges.

Hip drop: normal tackle technique used for decades, only outlawed this year. Extremely difficult to judge in real time. In fact, there’s been a number of them this year…most not called because it’s asking too much of refs. Debatable how dangerous…but the NFL felt it was dangerous enough to outlaw. I’m on record that I didn’t like the rule, largely for reasons posted above, and because it’s one more mental thing defenders must weigh as a tackling technique and the onus is already on them.

Sliding QB: protecting QB’s has been a huge priority for a couple of decades. The slide rule has been around for years. Guys know they must pull up and do what they can to Ovid a hit or to at least lessen the hit. It’s very easy to see and judge, and the foul is clear to see and flag. But the major issue and total reason for my ire…as I’ve mentioned so many times I could write a book…wasn’t the late hit on a sliding QB. That happens numerous times around the league. It was a wrapped forearm right into the head and neck area. I wouldn’t have been thrilled about the 15 yard flag being thrown…it’s still undisciplined play. But I can live with the flag and penalty. **** happens. What took it from a simple foul to the expulsion and potential suspension was the forearm. That’s a rare event in the sliding era. And given many prior “brushes with the law’ along with behavior and demeanor after the fact…that’s what led to the 3 games. I think 2 was fair…but Nick messed that up imho.

some are conflating This particular Incident with normal 15 yarders for contacting a sliding QB. Apple meet banana. Similar…but 100% not the same.

Lastly…as far as disrespecting, I respect your opinion. But if your asking me to respect posters in this instance that appear to be in favor of purposely hurting another human, or cheering his actions…sorry can’t go there. That’s not a respectable opinion, and I refuse to normalize that kind of thought. If you do,go for it, but I’m not here to delight in the pain and injury of another man.

As multiple former players have said, it was a borderline dirty hit and the suspension was excessive. Now it should be up to the Texans to show the Park Ave boys what dirty hits really look like.

There’s nothing borderline. Either it’s a dirty hit or it’s not. The NFL determined it was a malicious hit. Deal with it.

I appreciate that you respect me as a person. I also respect you.

I also respect our ability to agree to disagree. I want the Park Ave boys that are a bunch of former Titans plus God'ell to have to change they way they do business and not just in this case. You seem to be happy with the status quo.

BTW, I also think AL's stance on free Palestine contributed to this unprecedented punishment and I totally disagree with AL on his stance.

My stance is if Park Ave is gong to make the Texans villains, dont just embrace being a villain but be the best villain you can be.

There were incidents in Green Bay involving C.J. Stroud that were tough to watch. One particularly nasty hit out of bounds went unanswered—none of the Texans stepped up or pushed back. It was disappointing, plain and simple.

You’re right, though—the game has changed a lot which is partially why I rarely watch the games. At this point, it feels like there should be ejections and suspensions happening every week. Football, especially when it comes to quarterbacks, is starting to feel more like touch football. The quarterbacks are running more and faking going out of bounds or sliding, but defenders are left with almost no options and end up playing at a serious disadvantage. It's because the NFL wants more scoring.

Last Sunday’s ugly incident between the Texans and Jaguars, sparked by the knockout blow applied to linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair to a sliding Trevor Lawrence, should have resulted in a broad array of fines for the fight that broke out after the hit.

Ultimately, only Jaguars tight end Evan Engram was fined. Not even Al-Shaair — who per the league “escalated [the fight] when [he] pulled an opponent down to the ground by his facemask — was separately punished for his actions during what was a pair of altercations. (The list of Al-Shaair infractions over the past several years includes an unsportsmanlike conduct foul for last Sunday, but no fine.)

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the folks responsible for meting out punishment decided it wouldn’t be fair to impose fines for the aftermath of one specific incident. It was the hit and Engram’s shove of Al-Shaair that sparked everything.

On one hand, it makes sense. On the other hand, it’s arguably a mistake, because it sends a message to all teams.

Once a significant incident happens and the battle is joined, have at it!

Moreover, the outcome required conscious disregard of the rules and past precedent. It also sets a new precedent that will potentially become part of the appeals process moving forward. A player who is fined for a fracas that stems from some other incident can argue that, if it wasn’t fair to fine everyone who got involved in a pair of fights last Sunday, it’s not fair to fine them, either.

This is what I can’t stand with these darn writers. Al didn’t escalate the crap, it was Engram. He did more than just shoved Al, he hit him from behind and his teammates were on Al’s ash. That’s why Al grab one of the Jaguars players face mask. He was literally being jumped. So what he suppose to do? Not protect himself?
