Al Shaair Suspension

usernameJJ

So it came out today that Al Shaair has a 3 game suspension (which I know that he can appeal) but then one of the talking heads said he could be back for the Christmas game, which would only be 2 games. My question is.....is the suspension for 3 weeks or 3 games? (We have a bye this week)

I saw that segment too. I think he misspoke. Or he was taking into account that there could be an appeal and it could be reduced to 2 games. Not sure if it was that or he just got the didn't realize we had a bye. The bye week does not count as one of the weeks, it will be 3 games.

I believe it’s 3 games. NFL wants to protect the golden boy Mahomes and Lamar. Chiefs and Ravens certainly played a factor in the time length

Al Shaair was going to be punished, and yes, it was an ugly hit. But boy is the media taking this and running with it. Al Shaair is a villain. DeMeco has lost respect from talking heads for sticking up for his player, etc. etc. etc.

3 games is clearly very harsh and he has the option to appeal which he will almost assuredly do.

So I'm guessing it will be 2 weeks with an outside shot of it actually being 1 week considering the fact that all his "priors" are in game incidents that never before resulted in ejection or suspension.

It seems obvious to me the league wants to make an example of him, but the NFLPA and appeals do have power so I find it incredibly incredibly unlikely the 3 games stand.

This crap was on the damn ABC evening World news with David Muir!
Good Lawd imagine if it was Mahomes on the receiving end?? Smh
Mahomes needs to be on the receiving end and I like Mahomes.

God'ells rigged NFL, players need to take back the NFL by taking things into their own hands.

Hard to fight the NFL, let’s see how strong players union really is? Paragraph 3 is grounds for defamation suit and or removing Runyon from his league role.

Unfortunate play sure, but Azeeze had no choice in the aftermath but to defend himself as several Jacksonville players started whacking him, dragging him into their sidelines like bunch of hyena’s attacking prey) that was equally repulsive & unfortunate.

Okay 😂

Something I think is being misunderstood is QBs being treated different. The only added protection that QBs get is when they are in the pocket attempting to pass or just threw a pass. If a QB takes off as a runner there are no "QB" protections...also any ball carrier can give themselves up.

I didn’t like the hit. Azeez hit with 3 game suspension. 3 games was a bit harsh…1 game and an average fine would’ve sufficed. It really sucks, but we can only hope Harris is in the starting gate after the Bye. Pretty much end of the story, time to move forward.

It's not in the rule book as such but we all know full well the referees call it differently.

I'm just saying it's an unnecessary roughness penalty no matter the position carrying the ball. Now if you're alluding to a certain player(s) will get a call vs another, I believe that happens. If you've watched the NFL long enough, you used to hear commentators say something like this: "he (player) hasn't earned that call yet" or "he hasn't been in the league long enough to get that call".

By rule you're correct

In reality not so much.

How is he a hypocrite?

He just presented the facts.
He says the league is inconsistent. The Texans benefitted from the league not suspending him before even with multiple fines and penalties. So his argument makes zero sense. For Caserio to act like the Texans did not benefit from that is disingenuous at its core.

Oh joy, now we have two threads with the same topic to argue over and not change anyone's opinion.
I’ve had a bit of a change of heart after hearing some insightful comments from former players, especially quarterbacks like Tom Brady. Looking at the hit on Lawrence again, it’s clear it was an aggressive tackle, but when you’ve got 300-pound offensive linemen charging at you, aggression is part of the game. Quarterbacks, in particular, need to be more aware of that reality and take greater responsibility for protecting themselves. Football is a fast, violent sport, and while we often see these plays in slow motion, the impact on Lawrence happened in the blink of an eye.

In hindsight, I think a moderate fine would have been a more fitting response to the hit. And on a separate note, I also believe it’s time to impose a penalty for quarterbacks who fake a slide—there’s a fine line between evading a tackler and creating unnecessary confusion for defenders.

He was just fined for this the game before Jacksonville. The suspension is warranted. Late hits on guys out of bounds. It didn’t matter what else Lawrence did.

Just be aware this goes for Stroud too.
I have watched Stroud end the play early to avoid a hit many times. Not always but I cringe when he does not. That should be the norm if they want to stay on the field. Look at the damage that Newton and Richardson took. Many more examples of this. The smart qbs should not even let it be close. They are not RBs. Many RBs are built extremely rugged but still have very short careers and you have to attribute the damage they take as a contributor.

In particular he said the Defensive player shouldn't be the only one thinking about the QB's safety. If the QB thinks that 1st down is worth a possible late hit...

It made me think.

I still don't like that Azeez used his forearm to "tackle" a sliding QB & i don't like the way he carried himself after the hit.

I do think Casserio has a point when some players are fined multiple times before a one game suspension.
