There has been a deal in place for Swearinger since last week. Still hearing a player is coming in return. #Texans

From my understanding the #Texans will be getting a player in return for Swearinger. Will see how this plays out.
Tania Ganguli @taniaganguli
D.J. Swearinger Instagrams that he's gone from the #Texans. He was called to the facility yesterday and told the news.
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet
Last year, #Texans told TJ Yates he was gone, then waited to make it official. Later dealt him to #Falcons. Could be same with Swearinger

DJ Swearinger informed he’ll no longer a member of #Texans. Team has tried to deal him, will keep at it. His goodbye: http://t.co/EckSeWjcUv

That's interesting. Which team are we dealing with, and who is the other player ?
BTW PO, thanks for the coverage and the pics of the Texans' rookies in recent days. Really enjoyed that !

One heck of an opportunity #texannation I appreciate everything and the opportunity and memories!! It's time for a new chapter and the defining moment of my career!! So long #HOUSTONTEXANS

His official Twitter account @JungleBoi_Swagg has not provided anything yet, and nothing has been announced by the Texans organization. There is always the possibility that someone hacked his Instagram account, but that seems unlikely. I'm sure more details will unfold later today to clear up this somewhat persistent narrative. We'll keep a keen eye out for more information on this and update you as soon as it is available.

Did the Texans pull off a trade over the weekend involving the young safety? Will Swearinger, like so many other former Texans, go and enjoy a markedly improved career in another uniform after leaving Houston? What will Houston get in return? How will Jadeveon Clowney, Swearinger's former college teammate at South Carolina, and other young players on the Texans react to this news? Is Bill O'Brien setting a strong tone of accountability and making examples with this particular move?

Share your thoughts to these questions and more in the comments below as we await more details to this developing story.

Another deal with the Jets ?

This off season just keeps getting better and better. I'm sorry he didn't work out but at the same time I'm glad the O'Brien regime sees it and is prepared to move forward without him this quickly.

That 2013 draft was brutal.

Swearinger rated 78th/87 Safties in 2014 overall by ProFootballFocus(>25% snaps)

Texans drafted smallish LB Reshard Cliett, signed promising UDFA S Kurtis Drummond (http://bit.ly/1bKbQYO)

BREAKING: DJ Swearinger's dog is now free to bite players from other teams.

2 years on a 2nd round draft pick is far too early to throw in the towel IMO. If we get a 3rd or 4th round pick / value player in return, then maybe I move on.

But hoping for a 6th/7th which is reported on Rotoworld is basically just giving up and taking whatever you can get. Giving up now is a joke, you couldn't even find a backup better than him for a 6th / 7th on most teams and definitely not the Texans with Rick Smith.

Just another Texans draft bust more than likely though, which is crazy to me, cause who would have thought for a second that a slow, average sized safety, with no real ball coverage in college wouldn't come out and shine day 1??

I haven't been impressed by his play on the field, but I agree. It's too early to tell.

However, this may not have anything to do with his play on the field. I saw something earlier in this thread saying he didn't fit off the field. Maybe it's a MJ issue, they've asked him to quit & he can't seem to... maybe it's a dog fighting racket thing... maybe he had another misunderstanding as it pertains to paying for goods & services rendered.

Who knows?

And Rick smith still has a job

Eh, why wouldn't he? He doesn't have final say over player transactions from I heard on the radio and just knowing O'Brien's personality. Just like he didn't with Kubiak. Think we need to stop worrying about Rick Smith because our head coaches have been the ones making the final calls. Smith could get fired today and whoever took his place wouldn't change anything. It would still be O'Brien. They may work together on it but last word comes from the coach just like our last regime.

Swag was Wade's pick, a fish out of water in the RAC D.

But was he not also in Wades defense which always puzzled me why they drafted him to play for Wade ? As I recall Wade wanted his safetys to be "interchangeable", i.e., both should be able to play strong or free safety and as we know DJ is primarily a box or strong safety as he can't cover anybody.
********
Defensive coordinator Wade Phillips likes for his safeties to be interchangeable. Glover Quin played back and also up around the line of scrimmage

FWIW that's back in March of 2013 just before they signed Ed Reed and drafted DJ. So I dunno what to think about why Wade wanted them or supported their decision to draft DJ ? ?

Rick Smith = GM for life.

Living proof you don't have to be good at your job to get to the top.

Look very closely at Cal's a** and you can find Rick.

I'd put Reed on McNair and Swearinger on Rick Smith. Wade had no part in Ed Reed. Whether he wanted to draft Swearinger or not we'll never know, but he certainly doesn't seem like a Wade selection. Either way, I'm glad we're dropping him now while he has value - and hopefully get some value in return.

CBS is reporting that he was released:

Texas release SS D.J. Swearinger
by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer

After failing to find a trade partner, the Texans released safety D.J. Swearinger on Monday, ending the former second-round pick's tenure in Houston, per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

Swearinger posted about the release on his Instragram page, saying, "It's time for a new chapter and the defining moment of my career!" Swearinger started 22 games for the Texans over the last two seasons and in 2014, he totaled 73 tackles and two interceptions.

Only one saying that.

Have a friend who posts at a paid, insider Browns message board and the buzz there is Swearinger for defensive lineman Billy Wynn

I hope we get something.

At least a sandwich, maybe a bag of chips.

I post here, for free, what I see on sports sites. Doesn't mean it's always right, see TJ Yates, but at least it's public.

But Texans will just release him because teams figured out they want him out of here and why not just wait for the release vs have to give up something. Classic Texans Fashion.

Or as Pat D Stat on Twitter already claimed: trade was made this weekend just not finalized yet. Swearinger just being Swearinger and posting it early

What a lousy draft class 2013 was. Not just the Texans, but the entire league. A stinker.
Yep.

Bill O'Brien asked about D.J. Swearinger posting that he's no longer a Texan. "He's still on our roster."

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL · 7m7 minutes ago
Bill OBrien said Swearinger is still on the team and wouldn't elaborate. Asked bout DJ comment on Instagram he said "Its a free country."

Like Bill OBrien, Rick Smith said Swearinger still on team and wouldn't elaborate. But Smith said "for now."

When you're spitting fire, any target will do, deserved or not. You just want someone else to hurt.

This isn't Ed Wade we're talking about. That was his MO.

I'm starting to think that they are getting rid of swag because he won't shut up not because he is often penalized and can't wrap players up. I have nothing to substantiate this but I bet it also has something to do with he and Clowney being tight and his possible "negative" influence on him (From BoB's perspective).

http://www.reddit.com/r/Texans/comments/35ln36/swearinger_trade_perspective_from_someone_who/

Using a throwaway for this since it could link back to who I am. I've known many of the football players while going to South Carolina and I can say right now that DJ was probably the least "Texans culture" player out of them all. I was honestly shocked when the Texans drafted him. I'm a huge DJ fan but I just did not see him sticking with the Texans. There's absolutely no chance the Texans would have taken him if they knew everything he was up to in college. DJ isn't just "swagg" on the field, he really carries that reckless persona with everything he does. I'm not one to critize but I can see how it would cause a lot of friction with the Texans organization once they really got to know him. Word from current USC players is that Clowney and DJ are still good friends hanging out everyday and living it up in Pearland now...I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason the Texans let him go was his influence on Clowney. Especially since there were rumors of Clowney and DJ playing pick-up at the Pearland rec center.

Can we have a sticky at the top of the boards, or something, to once and for all address that Swearinger is not often penalized? He had 2 last year and all of 6 in his 2 seasons. I suppose because he's a bit boisterous this gets misconstrued, but the guy is not a flag waiting to happen.

We can send the sticky to his new team's boards in the trade even.

Sounds like if we wait a couple of days, it'll be irrelevant.

Does that account for declined penalties too?

If CBS says he's cut, then he's cut.

It says a lot about how badly they wanted him gone.

I'm always amazed when a player derails from a road to lifelong fortune not because of a fatal flaw in physical ability, but the space between his ears.

Everyone said that Yates was cut and then later reported that we traded him to the Falcons. Give it some time for it to show up officially.

Hope you're right. If so, DJ was probably not supposed to go public with it yet, which would explain O'Brien's comment on it.

This is clearly an O'Brien move to me. He's trying to build a certain kind of culture and Swag constantly clashes with it. Would be nice to get something for him, but it's addition by subtraction either way. JMO.

Swearinger's problem seemed to be more that he anatomically had NO space between his ears.

Just like with Yates, sounding like the tactic may work again with Swearinger.

And Bill just being Bill and giving standard non-answer. :kitten:
