2023 TEXANS DRAFT DISCUSSION

I've gotta admit, the Texans have played the pre-draft really well imo.

They haven't just opened every possible trade avenue and baffled us all. They did something else. With smoke and mirrors, they captured the curiosity of a lot of fans. I've paid way more attention to the team this off-season than they deserve, and I suspect I'm not the only one.

They set the hook. Now I want the payoff. Don't f this up.

I’ve noticed a trend of media members making stories to appear the Texans are running around like the keystone cops this draft season with indecision and no direction.

I’ve also noticed that they have been the rare team that has not allowed anything to leak out aside from which prospect has visited and Caserio mentioning how one prospect did not take blame for his performance on a visit.

But yet these media members seem to somehow find “inside info” where there has been none to advance their agenda of making the Texans sound incompetent.
I've noticed the exact opposite. No one in the media has a clue what the Texans are going to do and have made note of how close to the vest the organization is keeping things.
Texans' pick at No. 2 remains a mystery - ProFootballTalk (nbcsports.com)

What makes you think they would waste the #2 on a player THEY didn’t believe in?

"Reaching" is a concept defined by outsiders looking in. If you've got a guy highly rated, especially at QB, you take him. There is no such thing as a reach as long as you're right.

Except for a scout for the Jets who was pounding the table for him in the first round (I think Bradway was his name), but no one listened to him.

EXACTLY!

No.

You don't have to just take a shot. When you just take a shot, you're going to end up with Darnold, or Trubisky, or Gabbert, or whatever bust you want to choose.

YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD SCOUTING DEPARTMENT, and you have to trust them.

Unlike the Jets who that Bradway guy pounding the table for Russell Wilson and everyone ignored that guy.

And? Everything you've just said is exactly my point. Should the Browns have drafted Mayfield and the Jets Darnold, and then Wilson? Because that's what you're condoning. Those were the teams that "took a shot."

Scouting QBs and getting it right isn't easy. People fail at it all the time. Using a shotgun scattershot approach isn't going to improve the odds. Except to put you in the 60% who are going to probably miss.

The Bears chose Trubisky and the Browns traded their pick to us and then the next year took Baker Mayfield. And then the Browns tried to MAKE Baker Mayfield a better choice than Deshaun Watson, but then ended up trading the farm for Deshaun Watson.

If you pick a guy just to pick a guy, you're screwed, and you may well move yourself out of position to take the guy when he becomes available.

You've got to do a good job scouting so that you pick the right guy. And you don't have to be picking #1 or #2 overall to get a great QB.

I'm not saying we shouldn't choose Stroud or Young. I'm just saying we shouldn't be drafting them just because they're QBs and we need one of those. Our coaching staff, our scouts, and front office have to be damned sure they're drafting "the guy" or at the very least, someone they can work with to develop into "the guy."
And we shouldn't be picking per the owner's mandated "choice."

It sounds like Anderson is the pick at #2.

For the #12 pick, I'd look at a trade down, Bijan Robinson, Christian Gonzalez, Keion White, Peter Skoronski, Lukas Van Ness or O'Cyrus Torrence in that order.
Keion White, is old and this is a super deep draft for Edge. No way he goes top 12.

Peter Skoronski, is a guard in the NFL but I really like him Not sure this early though as I see way better options availabl.
Lukas Van Ness very underrated.
O'Cyrus Torrence doesn’t fit scheme here I believe.
I would trade up for Gonzales or Robinson. Two of my favorite players in this draft.

That's just your thought.

There are people who think Young deserves the no.1 pick, myself included.

That's not just my thought.

But I never said it was anything else.

You're totally entitled to have your opinion. There are people who think Stroud is the better prospect, and that's fine, too.

But I'm entitled to have my opinion as well.

I’m starting the chant…CJ, CJ, CJ! Let’s do this and bring hope back to this team and city. Don’t foul this up. CJ is the obvious choice just like Sauce was last year. I don’t care if Cal had to slap Nick on the face and wake this guy up from his stupor. Cal is right if he’s telling Nick to draft CJ.
