2015 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

We need to decide sooner rather than later what the pick is and consider that Erving being available could potentially have changed picks that have already been made.
I can only speak for myself, but Erving's availability would not have changed my pick.

Mussop made his pick last night and Lucky had a proxy ready.

htownfan32 has been on the clock since 7pm I believe.

My bad. I am trying to juggle work right now...

23(23) Lions (htownfan32) -- PICK IS DUE.
24(24) Cardinals (TexansSeminole) -- ON THE CLOCK
25(25) Panthers (RT22) --
26(26) Ravens (Playoffs) --
27(27) Cowboys (tomjn80) --

I actually don't like that Goldman pick at all. But maybe I'm only looking at it in comparison to the Erving pick, because I think that would be a great pick for them.

When is Detroit due with their pick?

agree with WF but I don't like Goldman as much as I do Erving/Collins/Johnson for the Chiefs. WR is still a need even with the Maclin signing. But the value isn't there for a WR in this spot as I'm not a fan of Strong/Perriman. But I would consider Devin Smith at this point.

Arizona Cardinals select:

Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

Competes for starter job with new signing Shipley immediately. Erving should win that battle relatively early and would give the Cardinals interior push in the run game that could eliminate some of the need at RB.

I was considering both Goldman and Erving as well as Gordon and Dupree.

Detroit drafts Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
Arizona Cardinals select: Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

25(25) Panthers (RT22) -- on the clock 9:26
26(26) Ravens (bah007/WolverineFan) -- on deck
27(27) Cowboys (tomjn80) -- in the hole

then...

28(28) Broncos (The Pencil Neck) --
29(29) Colts (thetexanator) --
30(30) Packers (WolverineFan) --
31(31) Saints (From SEA) (PHILLYTEXANFAN) --
32(32) Patriots (bah007) --

Great pick, the Cards OL should allow whatever RB that is selected to roam. I cant believe Dupree hasn't been selected yet. I considered him at 8 for the Falcons. In the real draft the Falcons are doing whatever they can to move up and pick Dupree.

Lucky took Dupree last night. Great pick by him as Pittsburgh is in big trouble on the edge. Jones is a bust, Worilds retired, and Harrison is 37. Dupree falling that far was a gift.

20(20) Eagles (beerlover) -- Jake Fisher, OL, Oregon
21(21) Bengals (mussop) -- Malcom Brown, NT, Texas
22(22) Steelers (Lucky) -- Bud Dupree, LB, Kentucky
23(23) Lions (htownfan32) -- Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
24(24) Cardinals (TexansSeminole) -- Cameron Erving, C, Florida State

All these are great fits. Really good/realistic draft so far.

Detroit drafts Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin, to give themselves a legit RB option.

I'm definitely aware of how great Gordon was in college, but is anyone besides me scared of Wisconsin RBs yet?

They've produced a 1000 yard RB with multi-TDs for like all but 2 years for the last 15 years or something crazy like that. I remember researching it a while back when I was looking into this guy around January. I forgot all the details though, but what I do remember is these guys produce awesome college RBs that turn pro and they all SUCK.

Like the best one so far was Ron Dayne and he was a waste of space, if you want to argue that, that's fine, but there's no way you can convince me he was first round worthy... and he got chances.

I guess the book is out on Monte Ball, but I think he might have already let his chance in the NFL pass him by.

I edited the last line. I said it wrong initially. If you quote me, please edit my grammatical errors.

I don't think that happens in the real draft. The Steelers should consider trading up for Dupree or Ray. I don't think they've traded up since 2003 for Polamalu. But they need to this year.

RT22 still has an hour left on his clock. However, let's plan ahead for a proxy just in case. I think OT is the clear need here.

I don't like tagging guys like that just because they went to the same school as some other guys that busted.

My main concern with Gordon is that he offers no versatility. He's an edge runner who can't go between the tackles and has never been useful out of the backfield in the passing game. I've got him as my #4 RB for that reason.

He's got good speed, but he's not as fast as he looks. You have to take into account that he played in a conference that has very little speed on defense. He was the perfect mismatch. If you put speed guys out there Wisconsin's OL will just maul them, and if you put bigger guys out there Gordon can just run past them.

If you watch his tape he's basically just beating guys off tackle untouched and then outrunning them. He offers little else. I have serious reservations about him. I think he's actually one of the most overrated guys in this draft. I do not see Jamaal Charles at all, which is who he is most often compared to. I see Ryan Mathews.

I have Flowers rated the highest but strictly as a RT. If you're looking LT then I say Humphries.

I personally see OT as their biggest need because their OL is just awful. The Panthers GM has stated that Oher will play LT so taking a RT is sensible. I have Flowers rated as the top OL available so he would fit (although I would expect him to beat out Oher at LT in camp as Oher is terrible).

Perusing some Panthers boards though and many of them seem content on passing on OL in round 1 because of adding Michael Oher and Jonathan Martin in FA (oh how misguided they are). In that case I would say Landon Collins is the pick.

Carolina Panthers select Ereck Flowers - OT, Miami

RT22 can change this pick if he arrives shortly.

Proxy pick for Playoffs...

Baltimore Ravens select Marcus Peters - CB, Washington

1 (27) Dallas Cowboys (tomjn80) -- on the clock 1:30-5:30
1 (28) Denver Broncos (The Pencil Neck) -- PM'ed
1 (29) Indianapolis Colts (thetexanator) -- Group Proxy
1 (30) Green Bay Packers (WolverineFan) -- on deck
1 (31) New Orelans Saints (PHILLYTEXANFAN) -- in the hole
1 (32) New England Patriots (bah007) --

Peters may not be the overall best CB in this draft, but he's certainly the best in man coverage.

Perfect fit.

Yeah makes sense for the Ravens to select a player with authority issues. They obviously have experience in handling bad PR.

:kitten:

Seriously though, I think he will go in the bottom 5 picks from a team with good leadership in the secondary, or maybe a team that has traded back. I mocked him to us in the 2nd round, but due to the lack of elite corners in this draft I think his value has been slightly inflated.

Big fan of Peters. Most talented CB in this draft IMO.

Agree. I'm not as worried as others about his off field issues. There have been enough people close to the situation vouch for him and he has done nothing wrong since. I wouldn't be unhappy if we drafted him at 16. Having said that, I just think we need to go with a safer pick after last years class. We need an instant starter and good contributor with our first two picks. That's one of the reasons I loke Malcom Brown so much at 16. He just seems safe.

tomjn80's clock is up in about 25 minutes. I guess it's time to start discussing proxy pick. I keep seeing DE, but I think CB or DT are their biggest needs.

I would go Carl Davis (DT, Iowa) or Kevin Johnson (CB, Wake Forest).

thetexanator missed his previous pick and has not been online in a week. Therefore, we have decided to proxy pick for him.

The Indianapolis Colts select Landon Collins - SS, Alabama

1 (31) Saints (From SEA) (PHILLYTEXANFAN) -- on the clock 6:00pm-8:00am
1 (32) Patriots (bah007) -- on deck
2 (33) Tennessee (thetexanator) -- Proxy Pick
2 (34) Tampa Bay (htownfan32) -- in the hole
2 (35) Oakland (PHILLYTEXANFAN) --
2 (36) Jacksonville (RT22) --

This seems to be dragging more than it has in past years. I don't remember having to do this many group picks in the first round.

Texanator and the new guy from the Texans MB have faiked to live up to their commitments. It's kind of to be expected of the newbies to this MB. Everybody else has lived up to their usual standards. A great 1st rd that's very representative of how the real 1st rd might go.

We are missing a few regulars like Dutch/Corrosion etc... hopefully somebody will step up and offer to take on these 4 teams.
