WAS -- DC: Jon Barry

Added Thurman and Barry. Falcons are apparently waiting on McDaniels/Quinn and Del Rio looks like favorite for Raiders. 49ers seem lost. Arizona contacted Lebeau to gauge interest on DC job. With Schwartz out in Buffalo he will start getting looks as well. Buffalo had an excellent defense this year.

Hmm...Texans consultant or Jags OC?

When former Buffalo coach Doug Marrone surprisingly opted out of his contract with the Bills on Dec. 31, the thought was he must have another job lined up.

Well, apparently not.

The Times-Union's Ryan O'Halloran spotted Marrone at EverBank Field on Wednesday. Marrone, who pocketed $4 million in leaving Buffalo, has already interviewed for the head coaching position with the New York Jets, Atlanta and Chicago. The Jets hired Arizona defensive coordinator Todd Bowles on Tuesday.

The fact that Marrone is in Jacksonville suggests he isn't a viable candidate in Chicago or Atlanta and is now scrambling for a job.

Oakland Raiders now have hired HC Jack Del Rio, as @mortreport reported they would.

Jeff Darlington ‏@JeffDarlington
Madden's role in Raiders' decision to hire Del Rio was big, even bigger than GM Reggie McKenzie. Madden ultimately decided against Sparano.

yep. His record is a lot like Kubiak's record as HC. 68-71 with only two playoff seasons in 9 years, but never a division title.

Well I don't think 1st HC job records are all that predictive on 2nd HC jobs, but I just don't like Del Rio. Great attitude for a LB. Petulant child as a HC, too much rah-rah and not enough x's and o's.

Del Rio's one of the most overrated coaches in the NFL, imo. Heck, I don't even think he's a good DC.

But, it's the Raiders

The 49ers have devised the most creative freefall I've ever seen. They went from Harbaugh to defensive line coach, which will prompt the DC and offensive staff to leave.

Yes and no. I can see both sides of it.

I tend to think that many more coaches are like Norv Turner than Bill Belichick.

Perfect for the Raiders.

I just think the circumstances of each team are so different. I think Jimmy Johnson was a great coach but he couldn't do much in Miami under the circumstances.

As a Michigan fan I say well done Jed York!

As a football fan I say what the hell are the 49ers doing?

Jim Tomsula coached one game as HC of 49ers: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201101020sfo.htm

Re-do, iPhoned it incorrectly. My bad. :tiphat:

Those Tomsula presser/interviews were rough. May be a great coach, but comes off as an absent-minded Madden who can't verbalize/complete thoughts.

Maybe that's the reason he's gone so long without getting a HC gig? Poor interviews and what not? I reckon the 9ers got to know him really well over the years and felt good enough to not give a darn about his public speaking.

Just my opinion.

It looks like Washington may not be committed to Barry for DC after all.

MarkMaskeVerified account ‏@MarkMaske

Vic Fangio will interview for Redskins' defensive coordinator job, possibly Saturday, according to NFL source.

Yeah I didn't have confirmation for that one.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet
Vic Fangio’s biggest advocate is #Redskins GM Scot McCloughan. With no strong ties to Jay Gruden’s staff, this would be a departure of sorts

On Wed Skins eliminated DC finalist Raheem Morris & were set to hire Joe Barry. Then Vic Fangio became available. He interviews this weekend

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Falcons, Rams, Jaguars each have requested permission to interview Broncos OC Adam Gase, a finalist for 49ers' HC job, per sources.

Davis said he's been talking to Jon Gruden "for three years," and said Gruden has never said absolutely no. But he's never said yes, either.

Mark Davis said he had a very brief conversation with Jim Harbaugh, but Harbaugh was already on his way to take the Michigan job.

Already combative. Sounded like a coach coming off a 4 game losing streak. Dude, you just got the dream job of our life! Be happy! At least until the first losing press conference.

Dream job in ways. Hope he invests wisely. I wouldn't plan on a long tenure.

The first report I read reporting he had got the job framed it as if he wasn't qualified. After coaching for as long as he has, in the capacities he has, I'd be a little upset too.

If I were him.

I totally understand why "most" would not believe him to be qualified for the job he's just gotten. But it's not like he was some Special Teams coach.

I reckon the 9ers got to know him really well over the years and felt good enough to not give a darn about his public speaking.

Just my opinion.

Only reason he got the job is because the FO sees him as a 'yes man' that won't step on toes or ruffle feathers and won't get the credit or the spotlight if the team wins.

One of the NFL’s well-regarded up-and-coming assistant coaches is reportedly set to meet with the Jaguars about their offensive coordinator job.

Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase will interview for the same role in Jacksonville, Michael Silver of NFL Media reported on Saturday.

From PFT. Doesn't seem like he's seeing much hope of staying in Denver.

Falcons are hiring Kyle Shanahan as their OC, per league source. Shanahan and Dan Quinn planned to be package deal.

Jeff Zrebiec ‏@jeffzrebiecsun
QB coach Rick Dennison and TE coach Brian Pariani are headed with Kubiak to Denver, according to a source.

I heard Quinn wanted Kyle Shanahan as his OC, but why would Kyle go there over joining Kubiak in Denver? Does he have any connection with Quinn or is he just wanting to be his own man?

Maybe he's trying to make his own path and not live in daddy's shadow?

Well that could be but the Texans offense was definitely better under Kyle. Lil Shanny is going to have weapons in ATL.

Our best offensive rankings on points were 8th and 9th both under Dennison. He and Little Shanny both had seasons at 10th for next best. Best on yardage is 3rd also shared by Dennison and Little Shanny.
