2015 NFL Draft

Just saying. Corner is probably one of our strongest spots as of now. We have no linebackers worth a damn, no receivers behind Hopkins, no starting center, but we draft a corner. Horrible pick.

I think we've got solid LBs... No stars, or plus players, but starters for sure. Maybe not so much in depth, but solid starters.

I think we also need to accept that it looks like AJ's replacement IS Hopkins. We're not going to go out and draft another monster WR to take AJ's spot. We're not trying to replace him. We moved Hopkins up and we're trying to replace everybody else in that unit (more or less).

The more I think the more it's gone to double meh. Jjo might be in his last year but nothing screams out that he has the top end speed or size needed to be an elite cb.

My biggest problem is this is borderline a luxury pick when there's more pressing needs. The Texans needed a productive first round pick this year. At best we got a nickelback this year.

I'm blown away by this pick for all the wrong reasons right now.

Ironic that some of you are calling Johnson undersized....he's bigger than Trae Waynes (who most of this board wanted if we went CB). He's better in off coverage than Waynes too (which is what we run).

He's also good in run support. Almost had as many TFL in his career as Arik Armstead (who plays 3-4 DE) and also forced 3 fumbles while snagging 7 INT's (Waynes had 6 career INT).

Waynes runs a 4.3 tho and Johnson runs 4.5 so............

With the 20th pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select Chip Kelly because F your reality.

This bugs me more than you know. Let a pro bowl WR go, didn't spend our mid-round 1 on his replacement, and can't make a firm decision on our QB...

are we sure we have an offensive guru for a HC??

Jon Gruden was showing Johnson's low lights against the run. Lots of missed tackles against the run.

With all the negativity towards KJ, he's going to become the JJ Watt of CBs. Wonder if he ever delivered pizzas.

Can someone clarify what the direction of this team is? We NEED linebacker help. But you sign an undersized cb that will be worthless against the run. The guy is going to get ran over easily by blocking tight ends and running backs.

I think we upgraded at LB when we signed Wilfork.

OK, looking forward, who should we be watching for as options in the next round?

It seems there are half a dozen decently rated WRs on the board. I've heard mention of Dorsett - maybe he lasts to that point?

Mercilus is probably our best LB right now. That's scary. Cushing is garbage now. As of now Tuggle and Simon are our other 2 starting LB's.

According to McLame, Texans had no interest in Parker. I guess that shouldn't surprise me.

Just for grins I checked the "don't want @ 16" thread.

No one listed Kevin Johnson.

Tells me that none of us saw this coming

People hate Chip Kelly because he does things different but I think that guy knows exactly what he's doing.

Agholor fits into their offense seamlessly. Just a perfect pick.

That's why most hate it now. He's not flashy so he wasn't on anybody's mind in that thread. Everybody was thinking of the boom/bust types instead of the solid guys who just show up and do their job.

I'm not thrilled with this pick. I'm assuming that the Texans think the pass rush (watt) can get to the qb if the corners shut down for 3 sec.

I am tired of the rick smith draft. We can't afford to keep missing on every 2nd and 3rd and sometimes 1st.

Hoping this guy can be a shutdown cb.

Man no one was all that excited about Watt either...let's give the guy a chance before calling it a dumb pick.

Sorry, man, but that is not the greatest logic to roll with. Watt is the exception. Not the example. Yeah, we nailed it with Watt. Now where else did we nail it? We've done 'Rah rah!' about the draft and our picks here before and we have gotten little from those picks. Some aren't even on the team two years later.

No, I'm not really down on the pick. But let's stop the Watt pick comparison. We have had more than one pick in a draft and haven't had solid drafts in a while so it is more than understandable folks are skeptical.

I like the pick. One of my criticisms of the front office has been the lack of planning. You can't necessarily plan for Cushing losing his knee, but you can plan for guys leaving. Of course, they have to pick a guy that'll stick, but I'm not going to pretend that I know more than the scouts and coaches.

"Some coaches have told me that Johnson is the cleanest defensive back in this draft. He can play inside and outside, press or off coverage. All the defensive back coaches I talk to talk about his feet ... so quick. The only concern is his frame and durability, but this is a really good football player."
Mike Mayock

This is why we drafted Kevin Johnson: Quickest CB in the draft. And it shows up on film. Here are how some of his numbers stack up against Jo Jo and K Jax from when they were drafted in the best measurables for quickness and explosion.

Jo Jo:

- 20 yd shuttle:4.23
- 3 cone drill: 6.92
- Broad jump: 10' 3"
- Vertical: 37"

K Jax:

- 20 yd shuttle: 4.14
- 3 cone drill: 6.92
- Broad jump: 9'10"
- Vertical: 37.5"

Kevin Johnson:

- 20 yd shuttle: 3.89
- 3 cone drill: 6.79
- Broad jump: 10'10"
- Vertical: 41.5"

Needless to say, Kevin Johnson has the quick twitch explosive style that our starters lack and that we need to match up against the TY Hilton and Julian Edelmans of the league.

Hope the rumors about us trying to get back in the 1st are true.....kendricks is still there to be had...

You can say that but people weren't too excited about D.Brown or Kareem Jackson either.

Fans wanted Fairley, was pissed that we passed on him.

Being skeptical is different from already claiming it's a dumb pick. Saying it's a dumb pick has some finality to it. Obviously if the guy turns out to be a pro-bowl CB then it's not a dumb pick which was my point.

Wasn't being rah rah neither was I being skeptical. I don't even judge draft picks any more because no one can do that even with 50% accuracy, even the guys paid to do it.

Just saying before we say he sucks and not worth the pick how about we see how he plays first?

That's why they drafted defense - they know they are going to struggle to score.

I'm not people & yes Chip is "near perfect" as a talent evaluator. Fear is, so stretched that nobody human could possibly wear so many hats without taking blame. But he will wear it, proudly. Why do Texans need GM for something a head coach can be coapable. Because Rick has no accountability. F/T.

It's a good pick, just not one I would have made. A draft is not just one pick. I'll wait and see what we do down the line.
