2015 NFL Draft

Suns had a Kevin Johnson too. Hopefully this one doesn't retire early from back problems too and hopefully he jams on Andre Johnson like Hakeem Olajuwon got jammed on.

I don't think this was the best player available. Maybe the best CB available, but I would lump 5 or 6 other guys in with him.

has never missed a game due to injury, despite starting 41 games over his career.

Johnson's other numbers are very impressive, especially his 3.89-second short shuttle and 6.79-second time in the 3 cone drill, each of which ranked among the quickest among all cornerbacks tested this year. Johnson also was clocked at 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash and posted a 41.5" vertical jump and a 10'10" broad jump. Johnson may lack the bulk and strength some clubs prefer but his athleticism and natural cover skills are clear. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com
Not my guy but we will see.

Pure cover guy. Would have preferred Marcus Peters if we were going CB but that was never going to happen with his off the field stuff.

LZ called it a day early....

#16 Houston Texans take Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest #ManoAManoMock

Well, I guess you can never have too many CBs.

I haven't followed the draft enough to have much opinion about this pick. Seems like they're going for long term impact rather than short-term, since we have a pair of good corners at the moment...

double meh. not really excited about anything we've done in the
offseason. Wilfork is a plus, not sold on anyone else until I see
them on the field.

This was a dumb pick because it wasn't worth the value -- just look
at the reaction of the folks calling the show. They were dumbfounded
for a split second..

Guess JJo will be a cap savings down the road now..

Precisely.

it's JJO's last year

Man no one was all that excited about Watt either...let's give the guy a chance before calling it a dumb pick.

@KevJr9 the best DB I played against in college and he was only a freshman

At the Combine, Johnson didn't impress or hurt himself. He recorded 43 tackles with six passes broken up and one interception in 2014. Johnson is a good cover corner who needs to add heft for the NFL.

Johnson is a tall corner who has long arms, quick feet, physicality and speed. He can match up with speed receivers and blanket them in and out of their breaks. He runs the routes with receivers and prevents them from getting separation. Johnson has quick feet and is agile. He can flip his hips open and run with receivers down the field. Johnson also is is tall and physical to take on big receivers. He is an asset in the red zone and able to win the 50-50 throws. He also is a willing run-defender.

Johnson recorded 58 tackles with three interceptions and 12 passes broken up in 2013. He was an honorable mention All-ACC selection. As a sophomore, Johnson had 58 tackles with 15 passes b

Well now we have someone to cover T Y Hilton.

Running a 4.5 40 yd. dash? don't know about that...as usual with the Texans and their 1st rounders...not thrilled. Hopefully this guy make me out to be fool and plays like Richard Sherman b/c that's certainly what they think they're getting picking a long, rangy pure cover corner like this guy.

Has anything the Patriots ever done been flashy or exciting in the off season or the draft....

This pick was Patriot-esq...not flashy, not exciting but usually productive...

Was a dumb pick in the sense we have no linebackers worth a damn, only one legit starting WR, and no starting center. Corner is one of our deepest spots.

Just saying. Corner is probably one of our strongest spots as of now. We have no linebackers worth a damn, no receivers behind Hopkins, no starting center, but we draft a corner. Horrible pick.

pretty much exactly how I feel.. now back to clippers-spurs!

One season for this guy to learn under J-Jo then we let him go check out F/A. And that means a comp pick in 2017. I see the thinking.

Good thing the draft is more than one round.

If you believe in a guy you pick him though. If he's a top 5 CB for most of his career then it suddenly becomes a smart pick.

That's being very short sighted... we have our #1 cb in his last year, KJ and a bunch of guys.

They must not have liked any of the LB's more

Also with how much teams use slot WRs you are going to need depth at this position. Teams like the Pats put more value in having good WRs than RBs, with it being a passing league you are going to need plenty of guys that can cover. I understand the pick but I understand the lack of excitement behind it.

Texans are playing money ball. CB are grossly expensive in FA, so we're drafting a good one in the 1st round that we can control on a cheap rookie contract for 5 yrs.

As soon as they picked him, I thought Nickle back

Can someone clarify what the direction of this team is? We NEED linebacker help. But you sign an undersized cb that will be worthless against the run. The guy is going to get ran over easily by blocking tight ends and running backs.

yep cuz Bouye wasn't getting it done when we had to cover 3 wr's

Yeah, we need to get used to that kind of draft and free agency. It's their way and it's exactly how we're going to be doing business here too.
