2014 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

14 ( 154 ) New York Jets ( steelbtexan ) ON THE CLOCK: 8:20pm - 10:20am
15 ( 155 ) Miami Dolphins ( htownfan32 )
16 ( 156 ) Chicago Bears ( steelbtexan )
17 ( 157 ) Pittsburgh Steelers ( Rock N Randy )
18 ( 158 ) Dallas Cowboys ( Thetexanator )

Pretty good.

Here's the Titans so far:

Justin Gilbert, CB
Tre Mason, RB
A.J. McCarron, QB
Michael Sam - OLB/DE

But. The onslaught that is the Jaguar's Draft has just begun. These guys have a zillion picks this year.

Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB
David Yankey, OG
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB
Terrance West, RB
Victor Hampton, CB
Ego Ferguson, DT

And they've got a ton more picks on the way.

I hate the Jags.

The Falcons draft so far:

1.6. Khalil Mack - OLB - Buffalo
2.37. Morgan Moses - OT - Virginia
3.68. Terrence Brooks - FS - Florida State
4.103. Yawin Smallwood, ILB, Connecticut
4.139. Anthony Steen - OG - Alabama
5.147. Ryan Carrethers - NT - Arkansas State

The Chiefs draft so far:

1.23. Marqise Lee - WR - USC
3.87. Dakota Dozier - OG - Furman
4.124. Justin Ellis - DT - Louisiana Tech

Just IMHO, doesn't make it right or make it so. Quessenberry was a 6th RD pick vs Newton a 7th RD pick. QBerry hasn't played a down and QBerry and Newton Combine #s almost mirror each other. IMHO that's a big jump/assumption for QBerry.

There is absolutely no evidence to suggest that QBerry is anything more than any other late rd OL drafted by Smubiak. If you're using history as a judge then you should expect disappointment. It is very possible that QBerry is not as good as Newton.

BTW Reid in the 5th is a GREAT pick!

Good information. Fair enough. And thanks.

35(99) Jeremy Hill - RB - LSU

Not bad, not bad. Ebron, Mewhort, Martin should be starters. Hill will probably get a good amount of snaps (more depending on how Ray Rice's situation develops). Dixon will get solid playing time, possibly even start. Davis should see snaps and will have an expanded role in the future.

He's just been indicted and the charges have just been elevated to Aggie Assault

What happened to us yall? We were going so strong. I really thought we could hammer this out. I'm very inactive on the weekends so I'll try to stay caught up, but I was really hoping to throw down a couple picks before I left work for the weekend.

Yea don't know what happened. We were going pretty strong and then boom, a couple missed picks and we stalled out.

The good news is that at least a few people in the mock are still PM'ing picks to keep it moving, but these lulls from missed picks really kill all momentum.

16 ( 156 ) Chicago Bears ( steelbtexan ) GROUP PICK
17 ( 157 ) Pittsburgh Steelers ( Rock N Randy ) BE READY
18 ( 158 ) Dallas Cowboys ( Thetexanator ) PM'ed
19 ( 159 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck ) PM'ed
20 ( 160 ) Arizona Cardinals ( kiwitexansfan )

----------------------------------------------------------------

Draft Update:

10 ( 150 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck ) - Ego Ferguson - DT, LSU
11 ( 151 ) Tennessee Titans ( The Pencil Neck ) - Michael Sam - DE/OLB, Missouri
12 ( 152 ) New York Giants ( mussop ) - Kevin Pierre-Louis - OLB, Boston College
13 ( 153 ) St. Louis Rams ( RT22 ) - Devonta Freeman - RB, Florida State
14 ( 154 ) New York Jets ( steelbtexan ) - Kenny Ladler - S, Vanderbilt
15 ( 155 ) Miami Dolphins ( Htownfan32 ) - Isaiah Lewis - S, Michigan State

As for the Bears pick, they have drafted exclusively defense so far so I would say it's due time for an offensive player. IMO, RB should be the choice as they don't have a backup for Matt Forte at the moment.

Pick thread is updated.

Bears draft so far:

Ha Ha Clinton Dix - FS - Alabama
Scott Crichton - DE - Oregon State
*Jaylen Watkins - CB - Florida
Dominique Easley - DT - Florida

I think Andre Williams- RB - Boston College
would be an excellent choice. He's a lot like Carlos Hyde in build, and had a really good year at BC. He's also much different from Forte, which would add some versatility.

Pittsburgh Steelers (Rock N Randy)

RD1-15(15) Pittsburgh Steelers (drs23) Calvin Pryor - S - Louisville
RD2-14(46) Pittsburgh Steelers (Rock N Randy) Cyrus Kouandjio - OT - Alabama
RD3-33(97) Pittsburgh Steelers (Rock N Randy) Martavis Bryant - WR - Clemson
RD4-18(118)Pittsburgh Steelers (Rock N Randy) Lache Seastrunk - RB - Baylor

Oakland Raiders (Rock N Randy)

RD1-05(05) Oakland Raiders (Group Pick) Sammy Watkins - WR - Clemson
RD2-04(36) Oakland Raiders (Group Pick) Derek Carr - QB - Fresno State
RD3-03(67) Oakland Raiders (Rock N Randy) Stanley Jean-Baptiste - CB - Nebraska
RD4-07(107) Oakland Raiders (Rock N Randy) Morgan Breslin - OLB - USC

They had that last year in Michael Bush and barely used him because he didn't fit the offense. That's why I think a guy like Storm Johnson would be a perfect fit.

17 ( 157 ) Pittsburgh Steelers ( Rock N Randy ) ON THE CLOCK: 9:45am - 1:45pm
18 ( 158 ) Dallas Cowboys ( Thetexanator ) PM'ed
19 ( 159 ) Jacksonville Jaguars ( The Pencil Neck ) PM'ed
20 ( 160 ) Arizona Cardinals ( kiwitexansfan )

Pittsburgh Steelers select Aaron Colvin, CB, Oklahoma
Unfortunate knee injury but once he is fully recovered and ready too go Steelers can boom with this selection as Colvin was a highly regarded CB until his injury and now he is a forgotten man. Taylor can't play forever and they have lost a few serviceable DBs to FAs
Time to add to the backend of the steelers defense with the addition of Colvin who was once regarded as a 1st-2nd RD Corner.

I'll take him here in the 5th!

20 ( 160 ) Arizona Cardinals ( kiwitexansfan ) ON THE CLOCK: 11:45am - 3:45pm
21 ( 161 ) Green Bay Packers ( mussop )
22 ( 162 ) Philadelphia Eagles ( beerlover )
23 ( 163 ) Kansas City Chiefs ( JCTexan )
24 ( 164 ) Cincinnati Bengals ( NCTexan )
25 ( 165 ) San Diego Chargers ( Texan4Ever )
26 ( 166 ) Indianapolis Colts ( Texian )

Proxy pick for The Pencil Neck via PM.

The Jacksonville Jaguars select...

Marqueston Huff - FS - Wyoming - MWC

This guy is surprisingly athletic. He was a corner for most of his time in college but then shifted to FS last year and got 127 tackles.

For someone like Gus Bradley, this guy is a nice tweener kind of player who could be employed in a few different ways. And... just a point but... Alan Ball is a starting Corner right now. With Huff and Victor Hampton (earlier), they hope to have upgraded their DBs. And with Clowney, they've upgraded their pass rush.

Jags Draft so far:
1. Jadeveon Clowney, DE/OLB
2. David Yankey, OG
3. Jimmy Garoppolo, QB
4. Terrance West, RB
5. Victor Hampton, CB
6. Ego Ferguson, DT
7. Marqueston Huff, FS

The Arizona Cardinals with the 20th selection of Round 5 select

John Halapio - Guard - Florida - ACC

tumblr_m79h94Hdvs1r3hrty.jpg

The Cards have made improvements on the line in FA but want to shore that up some more.

Halapio is a absolute mauler with great hands and serious power. Not the best techniciain but if he gets in touch with his opponent will knock them around.

I really like Huff as a FS. Saw him at CB at the Senior Bowl and was disappointed, but really like him at FS. I like Hampton as a slot CB. Ferguson gives them some depth in the middle where they are loaded with JAG's. The Clowney pick is a given and he has a nice compliment and mentor in Chris Clemons. West was a great pick and Yankey would compete for a starting OG spot. Garoppolo in the 3rd round was one of the better picks so far in this mock.

You left off Zumwalt who, as a 5th round pick, would have a chance to start at SLB. Great pick there.

Andre Williams was a great pick for the Bears. They need a GL runner to supplement Forte.

Sorry I missed the pick.

The Dallas Cowboys select...

Max Bullough - ILB - Michigan State - Big Ten

Interesting... I really like the guy. I know he played under Romeo at the Shrine game. I wanted him to be a Texan... with that said I had him lined up with my compensatory 6th round pick (211).

What do you think of him being drafted right here and the pick?

I think the 5th round is right in his range and he's a good fit with the Cowboys. They need a backup at MLB for Sean Lee. Since Lee is injury prone, they need it to be a guy who can plug and play. Bullough doesn't really have a high ceiling, but he will be a solid player and maybe a potential starter down the road.

I was really hoping Bullough would fall to my 6th. Been putting off ILB for 3 rounds now...

He should be a good run stopper, but I don't think you would want to put him on TE coverage. Probably be OK in a zone, but his main role should be plugging holes at the line.

Jeez.

How did I forget Zumwalt. I was really happy with that pick.

The Chicago Bears select..

Andre Williams - RB - Boston College - ACC

The Bears have requested to change their proxy pick. Dutch and I don't have a problem with it seeing as how no team behind Chicago attempted to address RB. The pick will be changed from Andre Williams to

Walt Aikens - CB - Liberty - FCS

If anyone has an issue with the change just PM me and let me know.

I am actually very happy with the speed/non-confrontation with draft has been run with. Has to be one of the smoothest ever.

That being said I'm 100% fine with this. And good pick.

Thanks guys, sorry I missed the pick.

Aikens is a rangy CB who has good speed and long arms.

He's a great value at this point in the draft and is in keeping with my philosophy of picking talented but troubled players late in the draft. I kind of hope the Texans pick Aikens.

Aikens got kicked off of the Illinois team for theft but seems to have found redemption at the school of Jeery Falwell. Good Christian values the school represents about giving sinners 2nd chances. Hopefully the Texans will do the same. Of course you teand to get 2nd chances when you're a big physical CB that can run like the wind.

I'm a big fan of Aikens. Was impressed with him at the Senior Bowl. I think he might be a 4th round pick in the real draft.

The best TT Mock draft ever.

It's an honor to be a part of this draft. Really great guys who have honored their commitment. Kudos to all of you guys. I will give out rep points to everybody involved after the draft is completed.

Great job

No biggie. You had given the board a heads up far before your pick even came up.

As for Aikens, I like his size and athleticism. I worry that he might be too much of a project but he has the raw ability to be a solid NFL player.

Jacksonville might just quietly move to become the 2nd best team in the AFCS if they play their cards right. I think Gus Bradley is the man to do it for them.

Having so many picks in this particular draft, there's a lot that can go right with them. If they pick smart, they can infuse that team with a ton of talent and immediately upgrade several positions.

And like you said, I've believe that Gus Bradley can do something with it.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope the Jaggywires screw the pooch royally in this draft but they'd have to be trying pretty hard to do that.
