2014 Texans Talk Mock Draft SELECTION

FYI, mussop missed his last pick. I sent him an email about being on the clock, but might want to consider alternatives.

I sent him one earlier. He was in the Manziel thread during his Giants pick last night but missed the deadline and he was online earlier today right before the Packers went on the clock and never sent a list or anything before he left. It might be that time.

Almost missed the Giants first round pick as well as he was in the Bridgewater thread.

I'm always here. Checked last night and received no notification that I was up.

23 ( 163 ) Kansas City Chiefs ( JCTexan ) ON THE CLOCK: 4:00pm - 8:00pm
24 ( 164 ) Cincinnati Bengals ( NCTexan )
25 ( 165 ) San Diego Chargers ( Texan4Ever )
26 ( 166 ) Indianapolis Colts ( Texian )
27 ( 167 ) New Orleans Saints ( coon )
28 ( 168 ) Carolina Panthers ( bah007 )

I didn't log on last night until about an hour after you went on the clock. When I checked the thread I saw that Dutch had posted right after the previous pick had been made and assumed he had notified you. I posted the update and saw you online later so I thought you were aware. You didn't check the thread?

With the 163rd pick the Kansas City Chiefs select..

Ross Cockrell - CB – Duke - ACC

Cockrell is much more physical than he looks. He has a lean, wiry build but doesn't shy from getting physical at the line of scrimmage, wasting little time in pursuit or attacking blocks. His awareness is an asset as Cockrell locates the ball and shows burst to close. Characterized as a coach on the field. He possesses quick hands and good timing to rip at the ball as it arrives, as indicated by the number of passes he's broken up (53) and intercepted (12) over his career.

Bengals select Brandon Coleman, WR, Rutgers.

They need some depth at WR, and he would have a year or so to sit before being expected to make a real impact. I think this is about where he's slotted, if not a bit before.

San Diego missed their last pick and we had to group pick them. I'm going to skip that step this time and just go ahead and pick for them to keep things moving.

San Diego Chargers select...

Brent Urban - DE - Virginia - ACC

- The Chargers have a solid duo at DE in Kendall Reyes and Corey Liuget, however they have almost no depth behind them. Urban is a natural fit as a 3-4 DE and is great value at this point in the draft.

26 ( 166 ) Indianapolis Colts ( Texian ) ON THE CLOCK: 4:45pm - 8:45pm
27 ( 167 ) New Orleans Saints ( coon )
28 ( 168 ) Carolina Panthers ( bah007 )

With the 166th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts select: Bryan Stork, OC, FSU, 6'4", 315 lb., Rimington Trophy Winner.

27 ( 167 ) New Orleans Saints ( Coon ) ON THE CLOCK: 4:50pm - 8:50pm
28 ( 168 ) Carolina Panthers ( Bah007 )
29 ( 169 ) New Orleans Saints ( Coon )
30 ( 170 ) San Francisco 49ers ( WolverineFan )
31 ( 171 ) Denver Broncos ( Blake )
32 ( 172 ) Seattle Seahawks ( Bah007 )

You got my guy that I was going to pick for the Lions.

Stork is a steal this late in the draft.

Yeh I don't know how I missed it. I must of looked at results thread. Was checking messages regularly. Thought there were a bunch of picks still to go before I picked again.

Don't worry about it. It was just one slip up and you're very active on the board so no sweat.

Just a heads up though (to everyone) I've mainly just been notifying guys of picks if they are offline. If I see that you're online when I do the update then I just assume you will check the thread.

Can I get the group to pick for my teams, Miami and Baltimore? Starting at around 8 PM tonight my weekend gets very hectic and I will likely be away from the computer until Sunday evening.

Sure thing. Feel free to PM me with positions of need or guys you are targeting and I can pick for you. If they aren't available then we can group pick for you.

Btw, thanks for the heads up so that we don't spend all weekend with you on the clock. :spin: Appreciate it.

29 ( 169 ) New Orleans Saints ( Coon ) ON THE CLOCK
30 ( 170 ) San Francisco 49ers ( WolverineFan )
31 ( 171 ) Denver Broncos ( Blake )
32 ( 172 ) Seattle Seahawks ( Bah007 )

The San Francisco 49ers select...

David Fales - QB - San Jose State - MWC

The 49ers are likely to give a big contract extension to Colin Kaepernick this year, however backup QB is still an issue. A mobile QB like Kaepernick is bound to deal with some injuries at some point and it's crucial for SF to have a back up ready. The traded their 6th round pick for Blaine Gabbert, but that seems like nothing more than a stop gap option.

Fales is a great fit for the west coast offense and Harbaugh can develop him as a long term backup or trade piece.

31 ( 171 ) Denver Broncos ( Blake ) ON THE CLOCK: 7:00pm
32 ( 172 ) Seattle Seahawks ( bah007 )
33 ( 173 ) Pittsburgh Steelers ( Rock N Randy )
34 ( 174 ) New York Giants ( mussop )
35 ( 175 ) Baltimore Ravens ( htownfan32 )
36 ( 176 ) Green Bay Packers ( mussop )

It seems like the OL stocks are starting to thin out.

According to the CBS big board there are some significant reaches going on for OL.

If your referring to Wesley Johnson, 6-5 300 Vanderbilt then let me respond.

  • Starting LT last two seasons
  • First Team All SEC 2013
  • Honorable Mention 2012
  • Allowed only two sacks in two years- both to Jadeveon Clowney
  • Fits Chip Kelly High temp scheme
  • Has experience not only tackle but guard & center
  • Leadership, Co-Captain as Senior
  • John Harris ranks him as 80th overall prospect in draft
  • Harris ranks him as #1 Center prospect, #8 OG & #12 OT

does that sound like a significant reach because CBS big board?

caught my interest watching Vanderbilt because I loved watching Jordan Matthews work his craft, obviously his QB had to have time to make those throws & playing in the SEC. Under the radar selection who will have a long & productive NFL career.

really solid pick NCTexan he will crack that roster for sure.

moral of the story is CBS Draft Scout as its evolved is a nice reference tool but nothing more. if you put faith in their rankings not actual tape or real scouting reports they can really throw you off, value/player evaluation wise. cheers mates :wesmantexanfan:

33 ( 173 ) Pittsburgh Steelers ( Rock N Randy ) ON THE CLOCK: 9:15pm - 11:00am Monday
34 ( 174 ) New York Giants ( mussop )

36 ( 176 ) Green Bay Packers ( mussop )
1 (177) Houston Texans ( TexansFTW )
2 (178) Washington Redskins ( kiwitexansfan )

Pittsburgh Steelers select ....

Shaquil Barrett, OLB/DE, Colorado State 6'2 260lbs. The Mountain West Conference player of the year here in the bottom 5th sure why not.

- Ranked 5th in the nation in tackles for loss with a Mountain West record 20.5

- Ranked 5th in the nation in sacks with 12

- Finished third on team with 80 tackles (38 solo) and added three blocked kicks, four forced fumbles

- Originally played middle linebacker at Nebraska-Omaha before program folded

- Only 21,but very mature for his age and a team captain

- Classic tweaner size to be a 3-4 OLB

- Senior season coached by Joey Porter

- Holds POA well and capable of handling double teams

- Gets his 32 1/4 inch arms extended and keeps lineman at bay

- Understands hand placement and uses them

- Nice dip and rip move with some bend to him

- Played on both the left and right side from a three point stance and upright

- Strength creates an effective bull rush, can collapse pocket

- Shows some long speed

- Has drop experience

- Played well against top college competition

- Solid special teams player

This is a home run pick! Dude is a awesome solid football plater and has potential to be better which is hard to find down here this late. Reminds me of a poor mans Cushing and can be utilized in multiple ways weather hand down or up on the outside or move inside and man the middle

34 ( 174 ) New York Giants ( mussop ) ON THE CLOCK: 10:30pm - 11:00am Monday
35 ( 175 ) Baltimore Ravens ( htownfan32 ) Group pick
36 ( 176 ) Green Bay Packers ( mussop )
1 (177) Houston Texans ( TexansFTW ) PM'ed
2 (178) Washington Redskins ( kiwitexansfan )

really solid pick NCTexan he will crack that roster for sure.

Thanks! I think he's a great developmental prospect. Plus he's huge. If he gets it figured out a bit more him + Green would be impossible to guard.

Proxy pick for bah007 via PM.

The Seattle Seahawks select...

Jabari Price - CB - North Carolina - ACC

Intetrestred in hearing more about why Bah007. I like him, but think maybe a bit lower,

I think Lawson would be a great pick for them. Extremely physical CB that fits perfectly with their style.
