2014 NFL Draft chatter/rumors/news

The thing about the draft is it never goes how every one predicts it. There could be a run on some position or other weird picks leaving us with a quality QB at the 2.1 spot. I don't think that will happen, but you never know.

I don't think the Mallet trade would occur until tomorrow. One of the top QBs is going to slip to 2:1, which should give the team some flexibility.

The Mallet trade smells of crappy Belichick disciple move, ala Josh McDaniels

Lions talking to Houston about the compensation required to come to No. 1 for Clowney. If what I heard is right it is too much in my opinion

Wow. I didn't think of that until right now.

You remember how McDaniels immediately went to Denver (the #2 offense in the NFL) and fired everyone except Rick Dennison (that name sound familiar?) and maybe one other coach.

He then tried to trade Jay Cutler (who had JUST thrown for like 4500+ yards and a Pro Bowl appearance the year before) for sorry A Matt Cassell (of the Patriots) ? The deal somehow didn't get through, but he tried his darnedest.

He went and signed like 6 former Patriots that sucked including some loser long snapper from NE making him almost the highest paid Long Snapper in the game...

He then went on to have a pretty lousy draft when he had several pretty valuable draft picks.

I think all that's left is BoB trades Andre Johnson and drafts Tim Tebow.

Pure speculation on my part, but my guess is the Texans want to see how the draft develops tonight. If a QB they really like falls out of round 1 or if they can manage to move up late into the 1st and get their target they do that...and Mallett is the fall back position and they do that deal after the draft or tomorrow prior to round 2.

Mallett has had off field issues in his past but by all accounts since there in NE he has been a good boy and he had first round talent coming out. One #2 pick isn't too steep imo if you think he has the goods to be a starter for the medium to long term. Remember, QB's carry a premium. It cost the Texans 2 #2 picks to get Schaub and BOB coached Mallett so he knows what he's about, and with 3 years backing up the best he should be as ripe as a brown banana and ready to go come day one. Fitz then makes for a very capable and veteran #2 and those left duke it out for #3.

I'm down either way because either way this team gets better.

Let the wailing and gnashing of teeth commence. Chicken little is being paged.

I was thinking the same thing.

At least something will happen tonight that will give us a clue as to the Texans future. Can't wait to see whatever it turns out to be.

You guys crack me up. You don't even know what we would be giving up yet you all are crying like little biches. What is the difference between him and Bortles? Well except that he has actual experience with OB's offense and he has three years of learning behind one of the best QBs to ever play.

The last time a QB with a 1st round grade sat on the bench for three years behind a living legend, he became Aaron Rodgers.

Or drafts TB

If the #Texans opt to select another #Carr @ QB, are the #Bengals not obligated to at least check if Akili Smith has relatives available?

Evan Silva @EvanSilva
Vets I think could be traded: Stevie Johnson, Ryan Mallett, Denarius Moore, Brandon Graham, Mike Glennon, Bryce Brown, LaMichael James.

I can't believe people still use walterfootball.

I have been outspoken about my belief that I don't think Mallett will ever do anything in the NFL. But I trust O'Brien. So if he signed off on a trade I would get on board.

However, the Bills were setting their sights to higher and costlier opportunities in order to secure that Watkins would be heading to Buffalo.

In a video posted to the team’s website, Jim Monos, Buffalo’s director of player personnel, confirmed our report ahead of the draft that the Bills were attempting to move up as far as the No. 1 overall selection for Watkins.

“We went with Houston right off the bat,” Monos said. “We tried to go to No. 1. They weren’t having it. They knew who they wanted, so we started working our way right down.”

So the Texans knew pre draft that Andre wasnt happy and damn near everyone knew the Bills wanted Watkins. And we didnt let it slip to a source that he was pissed to help our cause?
