2014 NFL Draft chatter/rumors/news

I thought that they used some real draft stuff as an outline . I can see Anthony Moreno being Daniel Snyderish in wanting to make a splash . Moreno and Costner were at a amusement park when he told Costner to make a splash and Snyder owned Astroworld before he closed it .

I thought the funny thing is capturing a GM on draft day as his real life gets in the way . It's predictable but interesting so I give it a thumbs up .
I can agree with this. Moreno seemed like a combination of Snyder, Jerrah and Al Davis to me.

#9 is a tough one. Most of the premier talent might be gone. Evans might still be there, maybe a QB we like. But if the offer is really good, I guess I´d do it.

I wouldn't bat an eyelash. Lots of good players in this draft.

Holy crap tomorrow night it's on, seemed like it took forever. I'm ready to see a thread title of first day draft night discussions.

my sources are telling me that clowney is the pick at 1, unless we trade down. source said that bob mcnair knows this is the pick at 1.

so we basically let atlanta out negotiate us.

Should Atlanta really after Clowney, #2 is not going to guarantee Clowney. They need to get to #1 which means we have a leverage and not out negotiate us at all I think. This is only if Texans FO value Mack or Robinson or other players available are similar to Clowney's talent as their #1A, #1B or #1C on their draft board.

Doesn't matter what we get out of it. If we don't want Clowney and Atlanta does, anything we get for moving down to #2 is a bonus.
I mostly agree with this, but don't want to see the team get punked.

Since there's not a prospect that jumps out with that WOW factor, and it's a very deep draft, it's going to be a buyer's market and Smith will have to adjust his asking price accordingly. I would be very happy swapping 2014 1st's, 2014 3rd and 4th, 2015 1st in a trade with Atlanta. It would be pretty much a sliding scale, as usual, though. The further down, the higher the price.

Short of being punked and swapping picks for a single extra pick and some cash, Smith can really only out negotiate himself. Unless the team is just dead set on 1-3 particular players. Hopefully, Smith mocked a trade with all 31 teams in the first. I'd be cool with dropping to 31 and getting a buttload of future picks.

if atlanta is dying to get a player i make them deal with us. if not, id threaten to keep him for myself. st.louis isnt set on 1 player if theyre moving to 6, so id bluff the best offer out of atlanta, and turn around and make st.louis deal with me if theyre willing to drop all the way down to 6. at worse wed be giving up what atlanta would have given up, and getting the extra stuff they gave up to st. louis. cut the middle man out, st. louis and st. louis is still making the deal to 6.

clowney is the only wow player. hes the only player that gives a sellers market and right now were the team thats selling.

True, except he doesn't wow me. I know... big effing deal... lol

And I bet we would both be surprised at who he wows and how much, hence my post. Clowney is far from a slam dunk... and slam dunks get blown, too. All in all, that still makes it a buyer's market. This is a weak draft in terms of superstars, but very deep in good to very good players. I'll take 2-3 good prospects over one superstar prospect.

I try to keep in mind all of the busts, at every position, and not project NFL production because of collegiate production. The two are very different animals.

Id be down for a swap to #2 if st Luis and Atlanta made a trade...IF we then traded back again with say maybe buffalo.

Sounds ridiculous I know but 2 teams get their trade back and 2 teams get their reward. Look, we've been talking trade down for literally 3 1/2 months now. Thats more then enough time to work such an elaborate deal. And the rams dont have to know squat about the 2nd trade. If a team tried to barter when we were #1 its not inconceivable they wouldnt at #2.

Atlanta would have to be in love with two players to make that trade before the draft, which is entirely possible with Clowney & Robinson. Could you imagine if Atlanta made that deal knowing Houston would pass on Clowney and then Houston traded down with Buffalo and they took Clowney? The egg that would be on Atlanta's face after the draft..

No WOW factor? Did you not see Clowney jump over four bags and grab two tennis balls off the ground???:spin:

That's what I'm talking about. Trade down a few spots and trade up to get two quality 1st rounders.

If we trade for Mallett and the Pats draft TB or even Manziel or Carr late in the first I'm going to feel some type of way.

Brady's getting old and the pats want to trade Mallet? Tells you everything you need to know. Only a fool would do that deal.

Brady will be elite for another 3+ years, they can't hang on to Mallett after this upcoming season. This is their last opportunity to get some value for him.

Unless they're giving up a 6th round pick, I don't want to see Mallet in a Texans uniform. Surely there are better QB prospects in this year's draft.

I hate this idea. It just sounds like they're looking for another Schaub at best. Playing it safe to the point of gutlessness.

I guess my questions will come down to if we get a QB tonight and who.

We'll get a QB in the 3rd round is my guess. There's going to be other really good undrafted players at the 2.1 spot to be getting the left over QBs after the 1st.

This franchise is a joke. We are gonna sign this loser after we trade for him likely on a 4-5 year deal where the earliest we will likely be able to cut him without getting it handed to us will be year 3.

We will suck but BoB is gonna force this on us because he doesn't want to look stupid. Mallett is going to snort cocaine off of the football as he is constantly getting intercepted and sacked, but at least he's huge.

Texans go 5-11 and McNair convinces himself they are making progress, even though no team besides the Lions should ever have back to back 2 win seasons. Another 7 years on a stubborn coach that wants to play it safe with a loser 3rd round pick and makes millions on the City of Houston's tears.

This is us, this is Houston sports... 0.9 seconds...

#Texans-Ryan Mallett reports have merit. Deal could be completed soon. Appears to have no bearing on #Texans' No. 1 pick. #NFL
from Brian Smith at the Chronicle.

I don't really buy it. Why would we sign Fitzpatrick to be a mentor for a drafted QB then trade for a guy who would start in front of Fitzpatrick?

Cause this is us man. Open your eyes bro. This is Houston sports.

Pessimize much?

The 2.1 spot, maybe, or move up from it; but, the 3rd round doesn't excite me. I want somebody who at some point during this offseason has been considered the best QB in this draft. Whoever falls to 3rd or 4th QB taken is fine. Manziel, Bridgewater, Bortles, maybe Carr; I do not want 2nd tier. If I wanted second tier, I might be happy about this Mallet stuff, and I am not.

The thing about the draft is it never goes how every one predicts it. There could be a run on some position or other weird picks leaving us with a quality QB at the 2.1 spot. I don't think that will happen, but you never know.
