2011 Houston Cougars Thread

The Cougars are just walking around flat. They look slow and Case is holding that ball too long. I think they're all thinking about Sumlin leaving. Wild speculation I know but this week has felt weird from the moment those rumors started.

I wouldn't be surprised if they let their ranking go to their head a little. They may have looked past So. Miss and were thinking about how they would play in their BCS game.

Sumlin needs to get his boys focused and remember that they cannot sleep walk this game. They need to get at least a win and if possible a double digit win.

They still have time to pull it out, but even if they do they'll wind up in the BCS game with the last at-large pick. After what we've seen so far I don't see any BCS team selecting them if they don't have to.

Ooh. That could come back to haunt them. An endzone INT is a huge turnover.

I like that if So. Miss wins, they cost the conference $17 million!!!

Maybe. If UH struggles to win against So. Miss, the voters may drop them out of the auto BCS big and give it to someone else.

Maybe -- but it would seem only Boise would have a chance there. They are at home against a New Mexico team which is worse than putrid, so I'd expect them to try to pour on 60-70 points to make a statement about their BCS standing. That has certainly worked for Bob Stoops in the past.

Could I get an EMT please??

On a different note, I don't think Dan Patrick and Craig James did their homework on Houston, especially Patrick. Talking like it was 4-down territory a few minutes back. Just my observation.

One thing UH is consistently doing well is stopping that wide outside run. They just need to start stopping the inside runs and off tackle stuff.

That's the thing: teams like UH and Boise not only have to win but win Big. If UH loses or wins small and Boise State gets a small win, look for K State to jump into the BCS conversation.

They were talking about 4th down territory in the 1st quarter. The comment was "its the championship game." I tuned the volume off and am just watching the game on mute.

Just no defense whatsoever. Disgusted and baffled that they can be this good on one side of the ball and so completely useless on the other side.

Yeah, understood. I was thinking a few minutes back then they suggested time was running short. I wish I could get a radio feed here...lol.

Crap, Houston needs two again. I think they can do it, but I hate this.

Watching the UH run defense on that drive made me feel like I was watching a Colts game.

I was thinking the same thing. The UH D seems to play really well when they can attack and have a big lead. They appear less formidable when they have to sit back a little and contain.

Seems like Sumlin will fit in just fine at A&M...

This defense is hard to watch. I've only watched 2 UoH games this year, but wow this is awful.

BTW, can I say how much I hate the stiff arm? Apparently its ok for a runner to grab the facemask but a defender can't?! BS I say!

His play calling is.....different. Like he's feeling people in the press box. The wind is a factor, I understand, but it's still different.

I've never understood why a ball carrier can legally smack a defender in the head with a stiff arm and it's a 15 yard penalty for anyone else.

After that touchdown...

Imma gonna go play COD...

why does sumlin keep trying to run it on 3rd and short, our running game has gone no where all day. He is calling a bad game

The UH players look defeated. They have negagtive body language and look like they just want to go back in the locker room. In contrast look at So. MIss. They are running, jumping, and have positive body language.

UH needs a turnover and get a quick TD to restore some confidence.

You'd think UH was the only team facing a stiff wind. It doesn't seem to be hurting the USM special teams much but it's killed the UH special teams.

And USM receivers are making great catches and UH receivers are dropping ones right into their hands.

UH better get its head together fast. It's not looking good in this game, but if they lose big, they could really plummet in rankings and get a much worse bowl game. If they lose badly they may wind up in the Liberty Bowl or worse.

Perhaps no one likes this more than Michigan. They're at #16 and need help in getting more teams to drop below them so they will rise in the standings enough to get a BCS bid. Unless UH fixes this in the last 15 minutes, they would seem to be one team Michigan will leapfrog.

I see k State jumping into the BCS over Michigan. K State is #11.

I think K-State is a lock for an at large bid if they win today. But if Michigan finishes in the top 14, I think BCS bowls would want to take Michigan over K-State for the at large bid. K-State would still get a bid, but I think Michigan would be selected first, being more of a "marquee" program.

Did anybody get a feel for how much Sumlin REALLY thought about punting on that 4th down??

I'll tell you, if he even THOUGHT about it the contract to A&M is all but signed.

I think the Keenum for Heisman train has left the station. He's been decent, but this may be the first time a lot of folks really watch a lot of him. And he is taking too many terrible, avoidable sacks.

The drops have hurt him, but even if you account for those as good passes and not his fault it hasn't been a terribly impressive day.

Don't even think he'll be going to New York after this one.
