Texans vs Vikings Game Aug 9 Preseason 1

Depth on both sides trash. Caley system looks little different vs Slowick. Can’t run ball, just a bunch of short dumps to receivers getting no separation. Mills & Slovik bottom feeders. OL a$$. As starters go so will Texans.

Positives, Hutchinson, Yeast. Metchie has minimal trade value (7th). Special Teams.

Mills led a bunch of backups down the field for a td against a Vikings defense playing several starters. Run game looked very good with Dare and the seconds.Fisher was the only one who looked out of his depth.

Slovis and Mertz led offenses have been a slog however playing with a lot of guys who wont be on roster aside from the Iowa State WRs.

Don’t know if I’m missing something but it still requires the ref to pick the ball up and put it down where they see fit?

Other sports such as Cricket & tennis capable of tracking ball placement without the need for human intervention, why not use their system (“Hawkeye”), and remove the potential for human error?
I'd like to remove refs from the game completely. But yes, refs have to spot ball first, the cams only triangulate position to 1st down marker. So...utterly useless except for not dragging chains out.

Sick & tired being bludgeoned by 3rd stringers of a very comparable roster. It’s either coaching or lack of talent? All the back-up Vikings QB’s look better than Texans. Texans OL looks unchanged from last year (least from depth perspective). Nothing there in RB room! Both Jawrar and Brevin Jordan unworthy of a roster spot.

While the technology exists to track the ball accurately (hawkeye, soccer tech), the challenge in football is that you still need to know when the player was down to properly spot the ball.
Money to supply sophisticated technology in every stadium............and ego.
And the cost, of course.
I've been wondering this for years. Just tradition I think. Baseball didn't adopt instant replay until decades after it was a proven benefit in other sports.
The fact that sport is run by rich old grumpy men doesn't help.

I don't want to be a prisoner of the moment in a first preseason game but losing sucks no matter when you do it! It appears there is a LOT of work to be done when it comes to the team as it is! Either that or we are simply a team without much depth who can ill afford to have key players injured for any major length of time!

This isn't just a depth issue, they looked completely unprepared to play a game today.

The Texans OL and Metchie have some similarities…..both know how to stop or quit pushing a yard short of the first down marker.

Wherever Zach Thomas plays on OL, pressure follows.

I will update my projected starting 53 after this game. Team really needs Trent Brown available as swing OT. I don’t trust Fisher in that role. But all in all, of the OL i’d expect to make the team, only Fisher was disappointing. Would like to see the starting 5 get live reps before game day. But understand keeping the vet OGs in bubble wrap.

You would think it’s 52-0 reading these comments. How many times do we have to say it. Say it with me, then write it on the chalkboard 100 times. Preseason results are completely and totally meaningless. In fact it’s often the best teams that look the worst. There is a reason for that, which may be semi-obvious to longtime observers, or frankly anyone who watched the game and made note of who both teams played.

Maybe the best thing I saw in the game was when Stroud was being interviewed on the sideline and he was more interested in what was happening in the game than giving a good interview. I like a QB that is not even dressed and yet he still cares about what's going on in the first preseason game in the fourth quarter.
He also went straight over to Mertz to talk to him after his 2nd INT. Undoubtedly a low point for the rookie trying to make the team and the entrenched starter took time to talk to him and impart words of wisdom. That’s our quarterback :)

Good thing about the team depth. The depth players won’t replace the starters in a wholesale nature unless this team goes up by 40.

I believe they got the players to handle the one here and one there. I also understand this is GM1 of the Pre Season and Caserio won’t be done shopping until all the cuts have been made after PS GM3. If there’s better options out there, then I’m on board with adding the best players available.

I’d put Slovis in lead for PS based on this game. But not surprised by how Mertz has played first live action since torn ACL and wide eyed rookie. Considering this season a red shirt and hoping Johnson/Caley can coach him up to compete next offseason.
So meaning that Slovis would be PS QB and also Mertz? How many QBs can a team hold in PS? just wondering
