Texans Running Backs

I do agree on most of your points, yet Marks did rush for 1,133 yards in 2024. What I like best about him in the Gap system, he follows his blockers closely and is quick into the hole. This should take advantage of linebackers dropping into the backfield to protect against Stroud's passing.
I think Mixon will be okay, but Chubb being healthy will offer Mixon some relief and insurance in case Joe leaves the field for more than a couple plays.
I just wonder how many of these backs are they gonna keep?
Roster spots are a premium but I guess Backs do make up a big chunk of your offensive snaps.
Could be pointing to a run heavy Texans under Caley?

I listen when I walk my dog at 6pm on 610. Usually you get Vandmeer and Harris. I would say it is always over hyped, but I do hear a lot more detail there.
I realize it’s hyped but IMO that makes it even better. I want to get pumped up. We get enough baloney on this MB. I prefer optimism 🌞over constant second guessing 🌧️. Not drinking Kool Aid but it leads to better mental and physical health.

As long as you know it is hype, but when he goes through every OL person and every DL person with what they are showing/flashing and such, it does make me go back and look some of these guys up, like Solomon Byrd. So some quick in depth stuff you know is exaggerated, but it does leave you more optimistic especially if good coaching is in place. I am like you, I like to be optimistic and pumped for the season. Wish we had an easy opener to get some reps on offense

Cody Stoots has been putting up a podcast on YouTube after each practice. I’m not a big fan of his staccato verbal delivery but his info is first hand, and well done in terms of actual real analysis without the syrupy sugar with extra honey of Marc V and Harris.

Love Stoots

Fingers crossed for a re-birth of one Dameon Pierce, Texans RB. Pierce is a true Gap Rush RB and struggled with Slowicks Outside Zone scheme. I believe that with Nick Caley's new offensive look, Pierce will be back to his year one self, only better. And I am here for it!

I hope so but I think beyond simply scheme issues I think Pierce has been hit a lot by all these injuries. I’m not sure he can even play like he did before and even if he can how long before his next injury?

Funnily enough Marc V was throwing shade at Stoots the other day for being too harsh on Chubb.

I see it the same way. What about player interviews and their hype? Does anybody caution their POV? I don’t see it as hype anyway. Bad term. Harris and the players aren’t hyping anyone. They don’t have a stake in any of these players futures. They don’t get advertising kickbacks. They see something good on that day and report it. Harris just loves football so it’s all good to him. Otherwise we can just dwell on how bad somebody is, why they shouldn’t have been drafted in any particular round or who we passed up to take that player, what they are doing off the field, who their agent is, why our organization sucks, and all those other negative comments to go along with others even outside of football. None of this crap improves my life, but hearing of a player flashing/showing his potential on a certain play just makes the day better.

Who can we target either at cutdown or with a trade that will take over that #1 RB role given that Mixon/Chubb/Pierce are all looking like liabilities through injury?

We’re loaded on the DL right down to the depth, and happy to work our picks via trade, so who’s out there that could save this situation?

I would think Devin Singletary would be a target.

Jeremy Nichols and Rashard White would be 2 more guys.

Now let's keep it real, there's almost no chance Chubb returns to his elite form given his age and injury history. But the move at the time looks like it was based on his tough running style, ball security, veteran reliability as a pass protector and available $$$.

From the article Coach Ryans says:
He’s physical, he plays the right way, he prepares himself the right way, really sharp guy when it comes to the protection scheme.

IMO, Devin Singletary = Woody Marks
Nah. Singletary actually has some proven ability when it comes to yards after contact. Even though he’s a smaller guy the first guy almost never gets him down.

Marks kind of has everything except yards after contact ability. Goes down too frequently from the first guy.

Yup Motor has better contact balance but their burst/speed and receiving skills are similar. And I look at both as being part of a RBBC and not a RB1.

This trend of bypassing nice RB prospects in the mid rounds frustrates me no end.
I understand the philosophy of skill position players etc taking priority in the top 5 rounds but now we are seeing the results of neglecting the RB position every year.
When you think of it, other than the QB, who else gets to handle the ball on the lion's share of offensive snaps?
Now you guys see why I pound the table for a quality back in the 2nd or third rounds and the annoying part for me is they have had the chance with multiple picks in 2nd or third rounds over the last few years and we have seen several of these guys be very successful in the league.
I think they were spoiled by Arian Foster (UDFA) and they think they can unearth another.
How has that worked since his departure?
While it is not a given that British Brooks is the next Arian Foster he has put himself in position to at least contribute by beating the odds last season and making the final squad, only to find himself derailed due to injury. I think Nick feels British and Jawhar provide more than enough depth at Rb to hold down the fort for as long as needed behind Woody Marks, Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce.

Should Nick have drafted a rb a bit higher? Probably but hindsight is 20/20 and so far I have had few reasons to doubt Nick so I will give him the benefit of a doubt. No Nick is not perfect but he has done more good than bad so let's see how it all plays out.

Agree but for a straight up draft only about 13% of the roster can be replaced if all don’t get cut and only about a third of the starting roster needs can be addressed. The math just feeds endless debate that can never produce a non controversial solution.

For others as well as myself, the British Brooks saga is a good feeling, but we also have to realize his collegiate career was sidelined also due to injury. Same thing has happened in his first NFL year.

Hindsight is not the only thing that makes people wish that Nick had drafted a running back higher or a different back without giving up the extra round 3 from 2026. The running back department screamed for a significant upgrade and many feel that was not accomplished.
I agree with your last sentence.

Many may feel this way, but the people who make the decisions obviously don't feel this way. Let's let this play out and see what happens.
