2025 Draft Prospects

I saw but my question was in regards to spending the first round pick on Simmons.

Simmons was the number one OT/LT prospect coming into the 2024 CFB season. His injury was a patellar tendon tear in October of 2024. He got his surgery and rehab has gone better than expected. He and his team think he’ll be ready for start of the NFL season….me, I’m not that optimistic. I’d like to see him ready to go a year or so before playing regular season games. Giving his knee the extra time is better than rushing him back too soon.

Simmons will still be a RD1 pick b/c of his body of work up to the time of injury. This type of injury is no longer a career ender with a good repair and rehab.

It’s that time of year. My favorite time of year. I hope all my Texans brothers and sisters everywhere - especially here - are well and thriving.

Just a little late night mock draft without any trades made. First mock of the year without any analysis and extra thought. As we get closer to the draft I will refine and start providing some deeper insights.

Would love to hear thoughts and reactions.

Nice work! I am okay with your guys and each should be there when you select them. Jones is a slight worry but should push Scruggs if not beat him out quickly. I am thinking we're going to see an uptick in juice but of course that could be anything. How do you see the offensive line day one? Howard still around and what position? Fisher at right tackle or left?

In this scenario, Simmons LT / Howard LG / Patterson C / Tomlinson RG / Fisher RT to give us a balance of youth and vets with the Vets on each side of the younger guys. Jones as the swing Tackle / Guard. We also could do Simmons / Juice / Patterson / Tomlinson / Howard with Fisher as swing and Jones as Guard to push Juice. Last option is Howard / Simmons / Patterson / Tomlinson or Juice / Fisher or Simmons if we want to see what Howard has at LT. Jones and Juice or Jones and Tomlinson first reserves.

I want to see Jones ready to go at guard by next year. Fisher and Simmons tackles for 5+ years. Patterson can cement his spot or lose it after this year - his play determines if we look center next year in FA or draft. RG / LG will be open to Howard (depending on play and contract moves and Jones). Best case we have 4 positions locked up with Simmons / Jones / Patterson / Fisher. Worst case we have 2 locked up with room for growth from Patterson / Juice / Jones and our tackles are set. But we need to stop retreading olineman and constantly draft 2+ in rounds 1 through 4 until it’s right. With big deals coming up for our playmaking positions - we need that cap freed up from the offensive line and those guys on rookie deals.

Somehow I'm hoping Caserio ends up coming out of this draft with these guys even if it means trading future picks.

1. Kelvin Banks
2. Mason Taylor
3. Jack Nelson, he's my guy to play LG and I think he can play LT.
3. Jacob Parrish

I have a funny feeling Banks is going to go higher than we expect. IMO he’s that good and I feel like a trade up will happen that is NOT Houston. I still think Houston rolls with Schultz / Stover / Jordan for one more year. I do not see TE on the menu but I could be wrong.

They need to get a TE that can block if they want the OL to improve. Hope you're wrong about Banks, but you're probably going to be right.

I would trade 1-25 and a 2026 1st to move up to 1-10 and pick Banks. Caserio would still have two 2nd, a 3rd and two 4ths to move up in the 2026 draft. A franchise LT (Which Banks is IMHO) on a rookie deal is worth two 1sts.

I think they will adda blocking TE day 3.

Can I interest you in Jackosn Hawes?
Like this former Ivy Leaguer with hands of stone. Pencil him in for a 7th rounder.

Tell me why he is better than Josh Simmons or Josh Conerly especially without having to use extra pics to get them?
I dont trust Simmons knee, especially after seeing how Howard performed after his torn patellar injury.

Were you one of the guys complaining about Tunsil being soft? If so, Tunsil looks like Andrew Whitworth compared to Conerly. To get a true franchise LT on a cheap contract, Caserio's going to have to pay the price.

If Caserio's going to go cheap at LT, then I hope he drafts Jack Nelson in rd 2. That guys not soft.

He performed a 99% rating in pass protection over his college career and now sliding on the big board due to 40ys 5.16 can be taken at our #25. It is only my opion that he is the better of the group and can start day one as he has a proven record against top competition. His physical measurments are excellent and his over all score is 82 with a 6.43 grade. I would not be disappoined in Simmons or Connerly as well so as the date nears my opion may change.

Right. Over 400 snaps and 7 targets makes one a blocking TE. But that's an outlier, right. The Lions Brock Wright was an UDFA. I just can't think of modern NFL offenses needing to draft blocking TEs in the mid rounds very often.
Tip's a good player and he's stuck behind McBride.

Nope, never said he was soft but I did wish that he played more aggressively and powerfully. Simmons in my opinion is more of a power type than a technician while Conerly is a mixture of both. As with all players moving to the NFL, both need to increase power with better hand placement.

Edit for spelling

I looked at every LT prospect once again. The one I’ve been overlooking:

LT- Hollin Pierce (Rutgers / 6-8 @ 341 lbs and 36” Arms) Big naturally strong Tackle who plays the position with a finishers attitude. I don’t think he needs to remain 341 lbs to play the position. I’d try to get his playing weight into the 325-330 lb range to help improve his speed. Those 36” arms are hard to look past….even harder is his ability to play clean and free of penalty flags. He’d arrive in camp healthy and ready to play. I think the Texans could work with that.

If banks is there at 25 I would be surprised. I am not against him but I would not trade up for him.

I was looking at Pierce yesterday and agree with you. Not sure he is a starter this year though.

I think he could be an OJT LT this season b/c of his shear size and natural strength. He’s also got a solid football IQ for the position. If the Texans were to draft him….get him started at improving his skills at LT. the guy has the mental and physical attributes to be a long-term starter for the team.

Connelly, in a way I hope Caserio drafts him just to see the MB's reaction to his soft play. I wouldn't spend the draft capital to move up to draft Simmons, after seeing how Howard's performed after the same injury, I would pass.

I’m not saying that he will go mid round, but I do think he gets drafted in the 5-6th range.

Conerly soft? I have read many evaluations of him and not one have said that word.
