Texans Player Transaction DISCUSSION Thread

As far as Diontae Johnson, I would not have wanted to potentially poison the team with his chronic negativity during the important playoffs.
It didn't affect the team at all.

If it did affect the team then they probably weren't a strong enough team to win a championship anyways.

These are the type of players usually vying for a PS spot. But who is most likely to carve out a roster spot? I pick the DL Byrd and Peevy based solely on DeMeco’s track record at the position.

Although i’d like to see Jawhar Jordan or JJ Taylor push for a roster spot. I think Jordan in particular had a shot if he didn’t get injured during preseason.

Anthony Averett is the most accomplished player on this list given college accolades (4th round pick 2x national champion) and time as starter for Ravens (3 ints and 11 pds in 2021). But he has dealt with injuries since, is 30 and been on and off NFL practice squads when not in the training room. Signed to Texans PS January 6 and now invited to camp.

Yeast has a chance to make the team. He actually played on defense against the Inbreds and is said to be a good ST's guy.

I would have kept him too…but knowing he is already causing issues…I would simply refuse to sign him to a new deal and say so long sucker once we lost. But in the meantime, you have a guy that can play.

Agreed. 9 starts for the Rams in 2023. Had the missed play that allowed a td against Titans but even Bullock did something similar in the playoffs so i’m not damning his evaluation on one play.

Maybe he can beat out a guy like MJ Stewart for a spot and develop.

Yep, at least he was where he was supposed to be and I doubt he lets that happen again.

Any new transactions of players that I have missed? I just found out our salary cap for 2025 has dropped from approximately 10 million to 1.8 million approximately. That is a significant amount of money and I don't recall that much going to anyone even future contracts would not total that.

Not an expert on how this works, but isn't there a different # of players that count against the cap during the season vs offseason? Maybe that's what happened?

No. I always use the cap space for the top 51 players. That way you do not have to worry about future deals or players signed without the contract info known. The major difference between over the cap and spot rack is over the cap usually does not include cap hits for rookie pool.

DeAndre Hopkins tweets, deletes, “I’m not done yet”

In his twelfth NFL season, Chiefs receiver DeAndre Hopkins made it to his first Super Bowl. As Hopkins has acknowledged, he didn’t play his best game.

On third-and-11late in the first half, quarterback Patrick Mahomes rolled right, bought time, and delivered an accurate throw to Hopkins. He had plenty of green grass in front of him. But he made an awkward adjustment and dropped the ball (to the dismay of teammate Chris Jones).

Since the game, Hopkins tweeted, “Don’t know what you heard but I’m not done yet.” He later deleted it.

The retirement talk came from a fake Adam Schefter account, which asserted that Chiefs coach Andy Reid told reporters that Hopkins informed the team of his intent to retire.

The Chiefs traded for Hopkins during the season, sending a conditional fifth-round pick to the Titans.

Hopkins will be a free agent next month, for the first time in his career. Whether he returns to the Chiefs or joins another team remains to be seen.

I wonder why hop deleted the post?

Does this mean Weeks is done?!?!
Weeks is a FA. He has been released several times in the recent past..................and always brought back. Don't be surprised if history repeats itself. If Weeks wants to come back after being our LS for ~the last 15 years, it is probably his for the asking..............his relatively modest salary will for sure not be a deterrent.

Jon Weeks, the only player to have played in every playoff game the Texans have ever had, has a chance to make history this coming season.
L.P. Ladouceur, long snapper for the Cowboys for 16 years, currently holds the NFL record for most consecutive games played by a long snapper in both regular season (253) and regular season plus playoffs (262). Weeks is at 244 and 258 respectively. He breaks the regular season record in game 10 this year, and he breaks the RS+playoffs in game 5.

Weeks is 39 years old, making him the older LS in the League. From what I am hearing, he wants to have a new contract and remain with the Texans.

Best free agent deals are sometimes the late ones on bargain basement prices.

They did a good job getting Rankins/Barnett back and taking a cheap flier on Berrios.

Man I hope Mekari/Daniels/a safety like Blackmon /Elliot fall to the 2nd tier FA's. There are also going to be some good 2nd tier FA CB's out there, Amik Robertson would be an ideal FA slot CB, Kendall Fuller/Isiah Oliver/Kristian Fulton etc... are also out there.

Let's get Greenlaw and go from there. DeMeco trying to get himself a dominant defense and I'm here for it.

I liked him when he was here. Mostly a ST guy, but can spot play if it's needed. Wouldn't want him to be a starter but he'll help a ST unit that was very average last year with a lot of ups and downs.

Not happening! No way! No one is as crazy as that trading fool bad boy! Laremy Tunsil is our left franchise tackle until he does not want to be.

Snicker. Sorry but after all the negative comments for two or three years I think I am owed a slight chuckle.
