Texans @ Chiefs AAR

After enduring multiple division round losses we have to be better in the regular season and fight for better seeding.

We were unlucky with injuries this season and it showed tonight. No threats outside of Collins and Mixon. O Line better be fixed (coaching, scheme, upgrades). I'm watching Caserio closely to see what moves he makes because everybody can see where our deficiencies lie. We have no TEs. Schultz isn't it. WR is once again a concern because I don't know if we can trust WRs returning from really ugly lower body injuries.

Defense was solid and played hard. Just need some guys back healthy and more work with protecting the middle of the field and defending TEs.

Fairbairn. He has been great and then when we need him at his best we get a game like tonight. He needs to at the very least be forced to compete for his job.
If they were to cut him how much cap savings would that bring?

I dont blame KF for missing a FG in those conditions.

That kinda call is right up there with pissing/spitting in the wind.

Extra point though......
But kicker didn't seem to have issues.

Being honest Fairbarin has been avg at best during the 2nd half of the season.

Mahomes = James Harden?

Worse. He's in that Ginobil/Spurs/Fisher/Soccer level.

Also no, it's a major problem across the entire league. We just had to deal with this a few weeks back. And it comes up multiple times a week with garbage penalty/no penalty calls. It's absolute delegitimizing bullshit.

They have a huge problem when the league are able to review the play but because there is light contact proving there wasn’t sufficient force to cause a penalty they aren’t able to pick up the flag.

Then they should be able to pick up the flag because the vast majority of us have been watching football for decades and know that this **** isn't roughing, personal fouls, etc. We know what's a catch and what's not a catch. We know what's dirty and what's not dirty. We know what's holding and what's not holding. We know what's any other penalty and what's not. But apparently we don't anymore because holy crap has everything been broken beyond recognition.

There's no downside for the offensive player for any of this garbage. So they flop and fake slide and run and all that.

It's used and abused and defensive players pay the price and teams pay the price and legitimacy of the sport and quality of the sport pays the price and so on. It's unwatchable. They muddled all the rules so much, put interpretation even further into the hands of the refs so much, that now there's several instances a week of some absolute complete garbage ruining the sport. Not to mention all the other rules and stuff, including but not limited to the stupid kickoffs.

The NFL is lucky that people are addicted to this ****. Otherwise they'd stop watching. And you know what, who wants to watch this crap every week with this same old song and dance debate about what's a catch, what's a fumble, what's inbounds, what's this what's that.

There's so much cool stuff in football, including all the things we could talk about that cost the Texans or gave the Chiefs the win today outside of this interpretation garbage. But we can't focus on that stuff ever because the sport is constantly riddled with this crap. What match up, what fail point, what execution on which play, etc. The national discussion is hardly ever about the sport itself. Not sure it ever was but it sure as hell isn't now. And that sucks cuz I'm a football fan and January is awesome.

I know I don't watch much NFL anymore outside of Texans games at least nearly the way I used to. It's been a few years of this. Quite frankly O'Brien Era robbed me of my joy of the sport quite a bit.

But a lot of the last few years really hurt things even more. On and off the field. I've only watched two Chiefs games intently this year and of course both were the Texans games. I don't find them interesting as a team and I find them rather repetitive, uncompelling and quite frankly predictable. Why bother. Oh they're on Sunday Night Football again whoopie. This **** we saw today has a lot to do with it. But Mahomes and the Chiefs are not the only one. This is a cancer across the entire league.

They'd be wise to get a handle on it before it destroys the sport for good like basketball and soccer.

It's rigged

Dont ever let one person steal your love of the game.

I'm with you on not watching nearly as much football as I used too because of crap like yesterday. Sad thing is I called what this game would look like before it started. It's rigged.

I only watch Texans football and not every game. 100% of the reason I watch little of the NFL is because of the rule changes over the last 20 years and the inherent bias. Soon it will be like baseball for me where I only watch the Astros and only when they're in the playoffs. Eventually it will be like the NBA, which I don't watch any of after 20+ years of watching every NBA game I could. I used to think it was me growing out of the games but it's how the professional sports have changed.

I’m not gonna kill this team today. They played well considering the **** we all watched with the refs. Offensively, time and time again KC was bailed out by **** calls that extended drives for them that ultimately led to points. Enjoyed Aikman’s reaction to the BS roughing call. That Kermit the frog talking joker has been getting away with **** like that for years and the NFL needs to address this **** in the offseason.

Offensively we moved the ball and looked good..we just didn’t have enough playmakers to really be able to put pressure on KC’s defense.

ST’s…yeah Kaimi gave us a number of wins this year with clutch FG kicking and this game he decided to give them all back.

Looking forward to what this team does with the WR group..and o-line.
Yep we needed another weapon opposite Nico to put more points on the board.
If we had Tank or Diggs available for this game it might have been a different ending.

I agree with Collin. & I hope this is the approach DeMeco took with his team last night & start of next season.

Offense & defense played well. Good enough to win against one of the best (if not the best) teams in the NFL in the playoffs. We didn't win on the scoreboard & the scoreboard is what matters.

We've got an amazing foundation two years in the making. We have to build on that. We should not be fumbling to wins at the start of next season. Offense still has a lot to figure out. So if he does bring Slowik back, & I believe 100% he will, he (DeMeco the head coach who is bringing him back) has to find a way to help him figure it out quick.

Personally I think that means running the offense through the preseason. None of this crap we, & every other team, has been doing recently.

Any way. This team can't fall to victim mentality. They weren't good enough to win a game that went exactly like they knew it would go. They need to work on that & get better.

Yup. Baseball is my favorite sport and I have never watched less than these last few years considering the complete and utter illegitimacy of the extra innings rule, among so many other things. NBA hasn't been the same for me since 2002 Game 6 of the WCF and subsequent standout bullshit games, including the Donaghy-corrupted Game 3 of the 2007 WCSF. Not to mention allllll the other ****.

Aside from the obvious issues with play calling and O-Line/protection issues, there are a few specific elements of our game I hope get addressed.

On defense, I really hope DeMeco and the defensive staff evaluate and fix our issues with TE coverage and defending the middle of the field. The Chiefs killed us here. Andy Reid didn't even bother challenging Stingley or Lassiter for much of the game.

Kicking in non-optimal conditions. Fairbairn has had clutch moments, but yesterday completely made everyone forget about the good moments and highlighted the inconsistency with kicking in challenging conditions. In addition, allowing kick off returns. Just kick it out of the end zone. Also, I don't know if anyone else agrees with me, but we need a new punter. I was not impressed with Townsend for most of this season.

I am going to say the same thing I said last offseason. I won't be happy until they spend the first 5 picks in the draft on OL. That is somewhat tongue in cheek, but the point is a big investment is needed in the OL, and this is not a new problem by any stretch of the imagination. Fix it this offseason.
I suspect early picks will focus on IOL and offensive playmakers. The IOL just isn't good enough and we were so depleted at skill positions with the injuries to Diggs, Dell, Jordan, and Stover that we were running sets with Irv Smith as a target.

Speaking of which, what do you think of Fishers game in the playoffs?

I doubt we spend a high draft picks on OL. I don't think the problem is they Jimmies & the Joes. We'll probably bring in a couple of mid level FAs...

Skill position. WR & TEs two of the first three picks, the third will be defense.

I wouldn't object to Loveland, Warren, or Egbuka

I could definitely see this happening.

Hope they draft a TE high and another one lower in the draft, in addition to signing a blocking TE in FA. What I really want to do is totally rebuild the TE room. Do I think this will happen? Not a chance. The only guy I would bring back would be Stover.

Maybe this game and the blatant bullshit to protect Mahomes and that pathetic ***** move he made out of bounds will finally make the NFL change the rules.
I will be cheering like crazy for either the Bills or Ravens next week.

I will notice a lot of sports pundits, ESPN people etc who never take our side had plenty of straight to the point comments of how many calls were just BS. Damien Woody. Marcus Spears. Etc. I think the flop out of bounds opened more eyes. I remember, while it being a whole different sport, the universal hate James Harden received for his flops. That was worse from Mahomes.

As much as I would like to blame the officiating for this loss, it was really the Texans own errors and mistakes as well as a terrible O-line and special teams performance. However, I can't help but point out the terrible officiating:
1. Bogus roughing call on Will Anderson.
2. No call on Schultz hip drop.
3. Bogus roughing call on To'o To'o.
4. Bad spot on what should have been a Hutchinson 1st down. Demeco should have challenged.
5. KC offsides on field goal attempt.
6. KC right tackle was either false start or not on the line multiple times throughout the game.

When are the officials going to realize that Mahomes plays them like a fiddle?

Agreed. We gotta fix our offense.

The officiating sucked but something we could have overcome if not for 3 of the worst playoff performances I have seen in a long time:

1)Azeez-I almost wish you made another targetting play in the 1st drive and got kicked out of the game again. Your pass coverage is a liability and you are the Achilles heel of this otherwise super bowl caliber defense. I do want to see you in a Texans uniform ever again. Enjoy those lifetime concert passes Swift will be sending you.

2)Schultz-your pass blocking is almost as bad as Azeez pass coverage (ie, non existent). I can’t believe I am saying this, but Stover was sorely missed.

3)Fairbarn-you need to spend the rest of this winter in KC learning how to kick in the cold. Your ass needs to spend this offseason as far away from Hawaii.

I’d like to find out the extent of Azeez’s knee injury heading into this game. He looked nothing like the player who carried Dalton Knox in coverage when Texans played the Bills earlier this season. That being said, he was outsmarted by the HOF QB/TE duo who specialize in finding soft spots in zones regardless. I think DeMeco put a lot of trust in him and was wrong/needed to adjust. I hope DeMeco putting too much trust in players/coaches doesn’t become a trend. Loyalty is good when things are going well. But when they aren’t you gotta be like our GM and know when to move on (or in DeMeco’s case change the gameplan in-game).

Agree on Schultz/Kaimi.

It’s tough because yes the Texans made mistakes. But so did the Chiefs and they were erased by the officials multiple times (as has been the theme since they’ve become the new dynasty team).

Very hard to beat the Chiefs when they get mulligans throughout the game.

Texans really shouldn’t have abandoned the run game like they did. They opened the door for the sack party on C.J. when they had just drained 10 minutes off the clock punching the Chiefs in the mouth. Don’t know if that would have been enough to win but it would have gave this team a fighting chance.

Dropping C.J. back when the Chiefs know you weren’t running was a death sentence.

We probably had a better chance of winning the game if Slowick would have given a good dose of Mixon and Pierce. Man I hope he gets a HC job next season.

Looking back at the game logs. After opening half 15 play td drive.

Chiefs make a drive of their own for a td. 20-12 Chiefs.

Texans next drive 6 plays turnover on downs (6 passes 0 runs 1 sack allowed)

Texans and Chiefs trade 3 and out drives (Texans 2 passes 1 run).

Chiefs 7 play FG drive 23-12 Chiefs.

Texans 11 play blocked Fg drive (all passes 4 sacks allowed).

Chiefs safety drive to end game.

Texans called 1 (!!!) run play after the epic 15 play drive to start the half. Just inexcusable! 5 sacks allowed on the pass happy drives. 20 plays called after the td drive. 19 passes 1 run and 5 sacks allowed.

PS: Mixon gained 4 yards on the run play.
